Thank you for posting this! Of the dozen or so performances that I've heard, this SIMI recording of the third movement seems by far the best: the tempo is perfect, the French horns are dazzling. (By contrast, some conductors [under the influence of academic "experts" perhaps] take the Menuetto fast and the Trio slow, which kills the very concept of the movement. Also, in other recordings, the French horns often sound muddy or comotose, not even part of the ensemble.) But here: Perfection!!

This is musically a minuet, but it's also a mood piece. The 40th was written toward the end of Mozart's life. I can hear anger and disillusionment in this.

It does seem a pity that such a rich and sublime genre has such a poor image - something that the truly meritorious artists are all too aware of....i guess i was brought up with 'classical', yet i've heard enough good hip-hop to know that snoop dog and eminem are not representative of much but a particular brand of West-coast commercial rap. Everyone has like & dislikes, & i'm really not trashing yrs - but hip-hop is not only ONE kind of music!

@barbavassilis Actually most "experts" will tell you Beethoven was the true genius. Speaking for myself it depends on the day and the mood. Sometimes its Bach, sometimes Mozart, sometimes Beethoven, sometimes Vivaldi etc etc. Right now I'm on a Mozart kick and Sym. 40 third movement (sorry if movement isn't the right term, I admit I'm a music ignoramous who loves it anyway) is my favorite of his works.
