this film reminded me of my childhood, and how I used to love going to my grandparents... I would love walking barefooted, and playing with cats, dog, horses....eating milk with mamaliga(a stuff made out of corn, like a paste consistency) ,yeah....I really had a great childhood....I was truly happy even though I didn't have all the stuff from back home,I never got bored.......in my opinion,the best things in life are truly free......

I watched this video in my college Child Development class last night. It was an interesting film. It did make me realize the differences in the way babies are raised around the world.  And the similarities. The baby in Namibia was the most natural on camera and they got a lot of cute footage of him. The footage of the Mongolian family held the most disturbing moment -- the toddler dragging the cat around with a rope. I hope the cat survived the filming of the documentary. :(

I didn't want my neice to watch this because a child's thinking is much more simple. She disliked the African baby because she thought the baby was dirty and nasty. However she was much more delighted whenever she saw the Asian baby or the American one or the Mongolian one because......uhhh oh yea THEY WEREN'T POOR AND PLAYING IN THE DIRT. Thank u 4 pointing this out! As an East African, I felt that I was misrepresented & stereotyped. I watched this film with my 11yrold child & kept having 2 pause the film and explain bias and misinterpretation. Knowing that children watch this with their simple minds & come up with their simple conclusions, I can't help but feel that this film fosters racism. Asians and Caucasians were given a juxtaposition, but the African baby was depicted (in my opinion) 2 B the representation of all Africans.

i loved this movie watched it twice today! the mongilian little boy and the african girl were my favorite because you got to see their lives since the american and japanese girl lived most like me it wasnt any different ... my favorite part was when you could see how frustrated the japenese girl was when playing with her toys and how happy the mongolian boy was playing with just the toilet paper roll... it just goes to show material things dont make your kid happy your love does

I bought this movie the day after it was released. I really loved to see the different cultures portrayed. My daughters (5 and 3) have already watched it twice! Although there is alot of nudity-babies and mothers-I don't find any of it inappropriate. In fact, I love for them to see breasts in the context of motherhood-instead of the sexual symbols they are made to be in our society.

Precious movie but dont expect to be entertained. Expect to learn- that we as Americans have a very important lesson to learn about raising our kids in a society of excess and material things. This movie should really open our eyes at all the things we are doing WRONG! The producer was on 20/20 and said he realized after filming that the baby in Namibia was the most content- yes- the baby with no toys, no stupid movies, no daycare, no processed food, etc. All parents should see this movie!

baby-hater! ;P Kidding, but really, you talk as if babies are a disease! It's just a movie showing how different babies' introductions to the the world can be, yet so similarly...human! It's geared towards an audience that already appreciates how wonderful babies are. There's a few typical factors that go into overpopulation problems: biological imperative, poverty, lack of education/access to birth control/choices, rights for women. To target a movie really trivializes the issue!
