  • I watched your performance with interest. I like the fact that you used your own American accent because it gave it a different slant! I think if you could change some of the references to the Britishness of it (Crossroads, place names etc.) you could equally make Susan the repressed wife of some vicar in the bible belt! On 4th September our newly formed Birnbeck Actors Company will be performing 3 Talking Heads monologues. Bed Among the Lentils, A Chip in the Sugar and Her Big Chance.

  • i remember the original, but i like your take on it

  • Great. It was a "general" audition for 3 local theatres, and they said they enjoyed it. Thanks for asking!

  • How was the audition?

  • Constructive - so don't take offense. You rushed through this whole monologue. Susan is miserable - she hates her life, her husband and their position. She's beaten she's tired and I feel you made her a bit glib. Take your time feel her misery - perhaps some physical life, something to do with your hands to take your mind off what the next line is.

  • Thank you for the comments. I am NEVER offended by constructive criticism...especially when it makes the performance more believeable and the character more truthful!! I notice that when I get nervous, everything seems to speed up and I talk faster & think faster - adrenaline, I guess. I have an audition tomorrow - I will incorporate your comments and see what happens!!

  • =] Yay/.
