  • thank you helps me a lot to buy the right stuff

  • You know what I took away from this? "Damn, that guy has awesome XLR cables." Forever attracted to shiny things, apparently.

  • Brilliant....iv just got a firestudio project for this very reason (fed up with using electronic kit with bfd for recording!).....your drum recording sounds awesome so im even more heartened that this is the stuff for the job.....it appears mastering software is in the upgrade...did you use that on this recording?

  • Mike...just another question. Do you think the studio one software that comes with firestudio project is sufficient or eventually will i need to upgrade to pro?

    Steve

  • @dcaudio1 I use the pro version, there is a comparison chart on the studio one site so you can compare features. The artist version gives you everything you need to get your recordings made. The pro version has a mastering "project " section and support 3rd party instruments and effects. If you already own plug ins and instruments you would want to consider upgrading so you would have access to those items. As far as the program the functionality is exactly the same :)

  • Wow. amazing sound you have. I mean the way you drum, really makes you drumkit very warm and...musical :). Can't believe that this recording is done in a room in you house. If you did this in a 100.000 dollar studio it wouldn't sound better. Really nice. Warm, cripy clean!

  • @jzzbucket Thank you! It's amazing how technology has given us these great tools to be creative with :)

  • Where do you get your tracks with out percussion?

  • @BTAKYI I created this track in PreSonus Studio One using virtual instruments and my bass. You can find drum playalong materials on the web if you just search it out though. There are many ppl providing these resources.

  • man those TC30k's are so nice for the cymbies!! im gonna have to get a pair! how much did they run you?

  • @danmarcelino I highly recommend it :) They really sound good on everything I have recorded with them...not just drums :) I think they go for about 800 each but you can find deals on Ebay if you keep at it :)

  • Drums start @ 5:15

  • what kind of furman is that? and do you recommend getting it?

  • @Darkcrimson123 sorry for the slow reply.... Its just a basic furman. Would I recommend it? for just a power strip with lights sure. If you are looking for something that will clean your power I'd be looking at a Monster. I use the Pro3500 in the studio and it DOES make a huge difference with noise in the power. as well as allows you to monitor how much power you are drawing and the incoming line voltage.

  • I have a pc and was wanting to get this interface, do you know if buying a firewire card to put in the pc would work? cause i had trouble with latency problems on the usb interace.

  • @drummerboy9551 Sorry for the slow reply... Yes normally adding a firewire card will work, however I would always check the manufacturer website for compatible chipsets and FW cards. I don't use PC, but when I did I figured it was always better to find out what other ppl are using that works :) Good luck

  • you R awesome Drumer ! nice sound

  • @alzalzo1 Thanks so much!

  • Hey I Have a Question,

I have The Firestudio project and Im totally confused when using Overheads,

Which Inputs should I plug them into and do I turn on the button for those inputs next to the level knobs?(Shine blue when turned on) Please Help Me out im so frustrated.

  • @southnich14 Sorry for the slow reply bro, You can use any channels you want for your overheads, the button you mentioned is for Phantom power. If your overheads are condenser mics you will need the phantom power on for them to work. The buttons work in pairs of channels so if your overheads are in one and two then the first button will apply the phantom power for those mics. Dynamic miss like an SM57 or the like do not need phantom power so you don't need the button pressed on those channels

  • that ride is so damn smooth, what is it?

  • excellent technique. I'd like to record some drum videos. I have the Same Presonus Firestudio. How do you Record video to go along with your recording input? I have my mics all set up.. beta 52 on the kick...SM 57's on the remaining drums.. and 2 Oktava 012's for Overheads. I don't know a thing about recording video..but i'd like to figure this out.

thanks for the walk through though. very useful .

  • Very nice video and great drumming too! I've been recording for nearly 10 years mainly using a Roland VS2480...which is a great machine...but now I'm thinking of getting pretty much the same set up as you (Laptop + Audio Interface) for portability purposses! ...just a few questions: what do you use the s/pdif inputs for? Can this unit be used with Logic Pro or Pro tools? Thanks again :-)

  • @mankalabeat Thanks much for your kind words! The s/pdif input is a 2 channel digital input, You could use it with an external converter such as an Apogee Rosetta 200 or something similar. Also, many quality preamps these days are offering digital output in s/pdif format in the form of add on A/D cards like the Presonus Eureka. The Firestudio can be used with any DAW software including Pro Tools 9, However if you are going to purchase a DAW you HAVE to download the Studio One Demo from presonus

  • @michaelcurtisjr Thanks for your advice and sharing your knowlegde! Love the music you're doing in your jazz trio! From the various audio interfaces that I've researched... the Presonus FireStudio Tube seems a very good option. All the best

  • what's that case? please tell me :D Love your video btw:)

  • @MrDrummerfy Road Ready 12 space amp rack found at almost any GC, Thanks :)

  • I miss your beard. Go back to the Intercontinental Breakfast look! Anyway, great sound and playing. Did you sell you Birch/Bubingas?

  • @Eleutherarch lol, it comes and goes with my laziness :) I haven't sold the B/B, but it is for sale right now and im only asking 1200 for the 4 toms, and kick :)

  • this is excellently recorded, what mics are you using?

  • @itspeople24 Thank you! Earthworks TC30k overheads, Beta 91 in the kick, Beta 56 snare top & bottom, C1000 on the hi hat, E604's on the toms

  • @michaelcurtisjr Thanks! Earthworks really do seem like the way every professional goes... guess I'm going to have to invest

  • nice camera, is that a wide angle lens?

  • @AuroraSunset Thank you and yes if you are talking about the handheld shooting it's a Tamaron 11-18 asphereical on a Canon T1i the overhead cam is a Canon HG21 with a conkin wide angle adaptor as well :)

  • @michaelcurtisjr nice, and nice reply a month later! haha

  • so its all ready to go and you dont have to add compressors and verb? and mess with the controls?

i saw this on craigslist with the same roadcase set up, thats not your ad is it?

  • Awesome video! Where do you get the tracks that you play along with?

  • @binge90 The music on this video in the beginning was my organ trio " The Kevin Burton Trio" The track I played with I just threw together and recorded the parts myself. If you are looking for drum playalongs that are free, check vic firth's website in the education section. and Thanks!

  • @michaelcurtisjr Thanks a lot, just went there and downloaded all their tracks! Great resource. Really enjoy your videos!

  • @binge90 No problem, glad I could help. Thanks again!

  • You talked~!

  • @Fr3ddieJ0nes LOL!!! yeah I can talk, sorta heh.

  • How is your floor tom tuned?!

btw, love your videos! I have learned many things by watching them!

  • @djsparx I tend to tune my toms a bit higher then average. The pitch is close to a G, and thank you very much

  • What Ride is that?? Sounds great! :)

  • @MrMeinlDrums 22' K Constantinople Prototype #14. Thank you!

  • @MrMeinlDrums 22' K Constantinople Prototype #14. Thank you!

  • Love your set and gear! The recording was clear and warm sounding. Nice playing too! I would love to know the specs on your ride cymbal, if you don't mind.

  • @LedfootFast Thank you! I love to record :) The ride is a 22' K constantinople. It says #14 prototype! I dont know the weight :(

  • this fella really knows what he's doing! very very nice video man!

  • @SpagsJippy Thanks brother!

  • Great recording setup and sound and smooth drumming.

  • @bobthedrummaker Thank you! I am very impressed with this setup!

  • hey great video but i got a question you might be able to help me out with.Well I record into logic through a presonus interface and I have good mics and cables but I still get a staticy noise and I'm not sure why. I think it might be the FireWire cable that connects the interface to the Mac but idk. Any thoughts?

  • @MikeFasanoDrums Yes I believe you are using software monitoring in the audio setup. instead of using the software monitoring you should use the universal control application that is included with your firestudio. This application allows you to mix your monitoring mix before it hits Logic. If this doesn't make sense to you let me know and I may be able to screen share with you to help you set it up. Should be easy since you are on a mac. :)

  • Beautiful kit :)

  • @FaithIsAccidental Thanks bro! I love it!
