Q-Tip needs all the sales he can get-- is that a bit holeish? I mean all artist need all the sales they can get- especially no -- I love Q-tip but hey I'm 33-- whatev.

I'm in the UNDER 25 crowd, but I still remember the days of Tribe Called Quest AND Digital Underground. However, I've never been a fan of Q-tip. Yea, he's great lyrically, but his voice and flow gets on my nerves. He needs add a little base to his voice and switch up his flow a little bit and he'll be set. With that said, I think your rating of the Renassiance is a bit too high but to each his own.
Honestly, I would give this album a 5 out of 10 because out of the 12 tracks on the LP, only 6 of them IMO are even listenable. We Fight/We Love and Johnny Is Dead being two of them. I'm sorry but there are certain artists who have the ablility and appeal to stand the test time and Kamaal Fareed isn't one of them. He was great in the 90s, but his time has passed and he needs to give it a rest.
to each or her own but, that is what the reviewer was saying...those under 25 will have to take some getting use to. I'd like to know what or who you feel would have a top 10 album...
Young blood here, 17. I'm embarrassed that this dude would put Untitled and Paper Trail on the same level. Nas's album is straight fire up there with Q-tip. Untitled and Renaissance might be the two best hip hop albums all year if not at least the greatest come back albums, but Paper Trail was nothin but commercial trash. TI needs to step his swag disappoints.
Thank you for that very insightful review. I am in that "over 25" group who knows about Q-Tip (and Tribe). Hip hop use to be clever. Rappers use to talk about their skills on the mic and social issues. Today's rappers talk about money, women, cars and violence. Some just repeat the same 4 lines over a hot beat. That's not hip hop, that's just rapping. In the words of Public Enemy "Bring that beat back".
This album is a straight CLASSIC!!!! The production is so refreshing, the lyrics are on point and u ride with it w/o skipping a song. The only thing I wish the album had was the song fever another J-Dilla classic production and rate this album a 7.5 or 8. is pitiful. This album is 10+ no doubt about it!!!
Ravi, you underrated the mind of like younger hip hop minds. I'm 15, and I know Q-Tip and all his songs. I'm a Nas fan so when i heard One Love, i looked into Q-Tip songs and i loved it. And yeah, I know Q-Tips' history, he's real.
Yes I copped this cd, it;s a solid album. This is the kind of hip hop music I love. Ravi is right this is a 90's album in 2008. I love my old skool music. one of my favorite albums of the year.
ravi you had me until u gave this album a 7.5. This album is 10! If this isn't what is?

Bum to that man, I'm 17 and I think this album is a genious fusion of styles glued together with the experienced production of a true street poet.
I can listen to all of Tribes stuff continuously, this is tips best work in the last decade.

Well, this year the only 2 people to put out hot albums IMO is T.I. and Nas. Q-tip's effort is no where near the level of Untitled and Paper Trail.
