  • Both Dudley and Peter are no doubt elsewhere now, perfectly happy and healthy and carrying on as amusingly as ever they did.

  • At least he leaves a film resume for people to remember him by.

I'm sure he'd rather be remembered for his activities than the latter years of his life.

  • This is such a moving interview. There are many people who suffer from PSP, in the UK there's a charity called PSPA who support people with PSP and their carers. They also help you with fundraising events, something that I'm also doing for them. If anyone wants to do the same or if you need info, look for PSP Association on Facebook

  • omg this interview reduced me to tears. to see someone as funny and talented, loved and witty go through something like this--it breaks your heart tremendously. Especially because he could never play music again...poor poor Dudley. May he rest in peace...

  • Legend

  • I had to cry....how could you see yourself debillitating & move on? And multitalented with quick wit & great hands at the piano disappearing from your body & mind. A brave soul to bring this out, may it make it a difference curing PSP. Thanks Dudley....

  • I thought it was gonna be a light hearted comedian fight the games console, PSP. This is shit.

  • After reading some statements made here, I feel thankful that people like Dudley have touched so many lives! He truly was a gift to our world. So many memories we can look back at now with technology at our fingertips! Thank God for people like Dudley and those of you who have such emotion and compassionate feelings! You all truly make this a better world to live in!!!

  • PSP is NOT a disease, it is a symptom of a major cause. PSP is the name of a group of symptoms. NoMoreVitamins

  • @CouldBePublishing What do you mean that it is a group of symptoms?..My Mom was just diagnosied with PSP. Please let me know if you have more information on this PSP. Thank you! Melody Steele

  • @quailfarm1 Hi, have a look for the PSP Association on Facebook and on the web, they offer advice and information. I hope this helps, Anya.

  • Forget tear jerker...full tear onslaught.

  • Wow, tear jerker! :(

  • brave man

  • Really sad. And such a brilliant pianist...

    RIP. I <3 ur work

  • R.I.P Dudley Moore.. great man.. thanks for all the happy laughs you have giving.. till this

day I still watch Arthur.. =)

  • I am so sorry, I just cannot stop the tears. I appreciate and respect the person Dudley Moore, so exceptional people as him it is now are so few... A great pity that so gifted a man touched suhc a disease. I love Him and I will remember forever. Thank You for everything you did for us...

  • it is so sad to see that science can't yet help these people..we have a patient with PSP in our clinic and she is experiencing a sort of locked in syndrome.her intellect is preserved, but she can no longer move, speak..she just lays there in her bed, with her arms contracted and retracted..with her eyes blocked...she just watches the ceiling all day long, probably waiting for the torment to end:( it breaks my heart every time i see her...knowing i cannot do a single thing to make her better now:(

  • I burst into tears ='(

  • So sad to see! It hurts everywhere in the body. God bless You!

  • Heart wrenching to see him in this state.

  • It's so shitty to watch him suffer

  • @silicon605 what did you just write? why is it all in caps?

  • R.I.P Dudley. you were a great man.

  • No one deserves this disease. Dudley was a great entertainer, and this was a sad ending. I love the movie "10" that he did with Bo Derek and Julie Andrews.

  • these unbelievers amaze me always blame God they claim they dont believe in!

  • @MsFullheart you will leave your god debate out of this and show some respect to Dudley Moore. You will sit and listen to his story without turning this into a rambling god debate. i will not let you disrespect Mr. Moore. troll somewhere else

  • @foreverdakota1 you will stop being bolshoi with me theres no debate here!

  • @foreverdakota1 dare accuse me of what you are TROLL!

  • @MsFullheart are you done now? or do you have more of your brilliant wit to share?

  • @foreverdakota1 wit?! Be gone troll!

  • Horrible to see him like this

  • If there was a God at least he was not around while this happened to Dudley. Few get a chance to have their personality shine on the big screen and Dudley entertained so many.

  • how cruel and unfair.

  • Wow, I can't believe I missed this special. So very sad. Loved him in Foul Play too.

  • Dudley was a shining star who faded away but his splendour and magnificence will never be forgotten by those who were so entertained and so touched by his genius.

  • At around 5 min into this video I broke out in tears.

  • i didn't know that this happened to him. how brave and gracious of him to give such access to his private life. he was one in a million.

  • I think I saw this interview when it initially aired, but tonight I saw it in a whole new light. My Mom was diagnosed with PSP one year ago and watching the rapid acceleration of this disease is heartbreaking. Her movements so closely mimick Dudley's during this interview that it made me cry. Please support the folks at PSP.org who are spearheading PSP research & education along with support for patients and their families.

  • What a terribly sad end for such a multi-talented man. Most heartbreaking of all, was the fact that he wasn't able to play the piano any more. Those times spent playing jazz, with his wonderful trio, were when he was happiest and it must have been agony to have been denied this for the remainder of his life. RIP Dud, in today's world, where mediocrity is a substitute for talent, you are greatly missed.

  • i haven't looked at Dudley for along time now ..i use to go to he's house when i was younger he's mum was a lovely lady makes me so sad seeing him like this ... but i will always remember him and he's mum making dinner for me and my mum in 70's and made my mum laugh so much . a wonderful caring man

bless you mate always in my thoughts Brian

  • it is not often that a you tube video can make me cry but this did. I know what it is like to have everything taken away I have MS and I I Am fighting to keep what I have left.

  • R.I.P awesome actor he was

  • Shit, sucks to see this.

  • I grew up with Dudley....He was very talented. Hardly a saint. He ended up where he was at with Nicole because he chose women for only their outside qualities. He squandered so much of what he was given. He did not have a relationship with his oldest son, as it was all about "Dudley". You reap what you sew! He was lucky to have such a loving caregiver.

  • @dolds67 Are you trying to say he deserved this disease and subsequent death? That's not right. No one deserves this, not even your worst enemy. He may not have been perfect, but then again, who is?

  • @Number1UltimateMJFan No, I didnt say I think he deserved this horrible death. What I said was that when he was healthy he didnt invest in people. He used women like tissue.Do you think it is okay to use women like that?He married women whom he used for their beauty.Women like that dont hang around when the money and health runs out.Women without honor.Yet he seemed surprised when Nicole left him.

  • @dolds67 Dudley was also known as a deadbeat dad.He did not support his son with money or love.Yet Dudley seemed surprised his son was no where to be found when he became so ill. I do think Dudley squandered his talent on women, drugs and booze.I havent a drop of gifts he had,but I treat people well, and now that I am very sick,I have numerous friends that I can call that would drop what they were doing and come help me.That is one measure of wealth wouldnt you say?

  • @Number1UltimateMJFan Im sorry I cant change the fact that I feel he squandered the talents he had. If perhaps Dudley had made just a few wiser decisions he would still here. Nobody could laugh like him. One only needs 3 seconds of his laugh to identify him.Just thinking about his laughter makes me smile. He was very gifted in music, acting and humor. His wit is unmatched. However, he wasnt a nice person in many aspects. I believe in Karma. You reap what you sew.Didnt mean I wanted him to suffer.

  • Uhmm....I don't even know how to respond to this clip....Dudley was an incredible actor and a peopeles person.....I'm at a loss after this....sorry everyone......whew.....

  • Never seen this before...sobbing now...all I wanted to do was YouTube Song for Suzy and ended up here... dumb-ass me...sincere apologies for my unforgiveable ignorance. Dudley !!!! you're music and comedy sounds like my childhood!

  • Er war ein hervorragender Schauspieler, einer der alten Generation! Danke für die Filme!

  • My significant other of 15 years has this disease. I first found this video in March, there was 1963 hits and now there is over 23,000, I know alot of them were from the horrible remake of Arthur. But I am glad people have found this. You will never know how horrible this disease is until you have dealt with it on a personal level. I have sent this to hundreds of people who have sent it to hundreds of others. Please forward to everyone you know to help bring attention to this horrific disease.

  • My heart was broken when he looked at his hands.

  • @beavertown2006 mine to

  • Hugely underrated actor.

  • Heart breaking.

  • Oh, what a gut wrencher. This is so sad and I never new just how bad his condition was. R.I.P Dudley, you will never be forgotten.

  • life is such a whore

  • It's pick your poison in this life. Figure it this way: You've been given the greatest gift in the universe, sentient life, if only for a while.

  • A heart rending film,a man who was such full of life.Dudley R.I.P.

  • Life can be a bitch!

  • This reminds me of Alzheimer's in some ways....both are very shattering. :(

  • There is no rhyme or reason to the cards that life deals out to people. As a lifelong admirer of this small man with such immense talent, I can only celebrate the fact that he was able to give so much pleasure to the world both musically and comedically in the time he had before this debilitating illness took hold of him. What upsets me most is the personal hell that he went through slowly losing the abiltiy to express himself musically which I thnk was at his core. But what a legacy he has left

  • Couldn't somebody have combed his fucking hair?

  • @beeroosterm Have you heard of OCD?

  • @functionjunctiontv what does OCD have to do with PSP?

  • when are humans going start to find cures for these debiltating diseases rather then spending millions of dollars on arms.....To acheive one talent in life is a honor Dudley did 3 play act and make us laugh...

  • Love you Arthur!

  • artist1322 my heart goes out to you and your wife...you all will be permanently in my prayers, and that they find a way to help slow this debilitation down for her... Dudley moore was my idol for years. he was the reason I stayed in front of the piano for 22 years and I still think of him as a genius musically.. as well as fantastic actor & comedian... I wish I knew where he was buried, I live in PA, I know he's in Jersey somewhere. I am moving to Georgia this month and would like to see it

  • I'm still in my teen years and so may not be as familiar with Dudley as some of his other fans. But I know him because my teacher told me to watch "Arthur" and . . . that movie made me laugh harder than I had in a while at a time when I needed it most. It's hard thinking about the fun and charming character he played and then seeing him like this. He's such an inspiration and, though I get lazy and am uninspired at times, I'm going to put more effort into learning to play the piano for him.

  • My wife was diagnosed with PSP after 3 1/2 years of being treated for Parkinson's Disease. She is currently in a Mayo Clinic i study on a new drug Davunitide. Though the medication is not intended to reverse or cure PSP, it will

hopefully retard the progression. Please go to CurePSP.org and learn all you

can about PSP. Then spread the word so we can get more people educated

and hopefully increase research funding for a cure. It is a most insidious

    disease.

  • I cried. What a talented person...I wish he was still here.

  • So sad, and what a horrible disease. My first cousin's wife was just diagnosed with PSP after being misdiagnosed years ago with Parkinson's. After seeing doctors at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, he is taking her to Spain next week trying to get some help. I pray there is a cure for this horrible disease soon!

  • My dad passed away from PSP April 16, 2011. He aspirated and went into cardiac arrest on the 14th, his 70th birthday. My parents were on their way home from Florida to Michigan, he died at Huntsville AL hospital. It is a horrible disease that robbed the last few years of the best man I have ever known.

  • This is very difficult to watch. I really did love this guy! It's messed up he had to go out like this.

  • My mother died in 2010 after a 5 year battle with PSP - well, it wasn't really a battle, because there was no chance of victory, it was just pain torture. The hardest part of her PSP was not just watching her die over 5 years, slowly and agonizingly, losing her speech, mobility, eyesight, and bodily functions; it was watching her watch herself die over 5 years. If there is a god, that god is truly a pig.

  • awww poor guy :( I bet he is playing the piano everyday in heaven :))

  • My mother died of this exact same ailment as Dudley. It's a heartbreaking painful process to watch and not be able to help. My mom was a musician too, with a Master's Degree - but this disease does not spare anything.

I'm SO glad Dudley came forward to highlight this ailment so others can detect it.

  • wow

  • i like just found out who duddley was a few days ago.i knew the face but i never know "who" he was and i got teary eyed watching this.

  • @notmefuckingname dude i just found out like right now that he passed away in 2002

  • Devastating.

  • My grandfather was diagnosed with this last winter. It's horrific watching it progress. He can't talk anymore, and it's hard to tell if "he" is still in there. Just three years ago, he was still himself, then all of a sudden he had trouble speaking, and it just keeps getting worse. What a hideous disease.

I hope Dudley is at peace now.

  • I'm taking care of my mom whom has PSP and she's currently doing worse that what Dudley Moore is showing in this video. She can't walk, talk clearly, or even perform simple tasks without having trouble. I'm not too sure what to expect from here on, but I do appreciate this video.

  • "... a certifiable angel." What an ultimate selfless act on Rena's part. Undeniable an earthly angel.

  • what an awful disease. it's a shame he had to go through this during his last days. He was a great pianist and a unique comic actor. I really enjoyed his comedy

  • @zonatec I can't think of anything more to add to your comment this is so true

  • Such a cruel disease </3 Rest in peace Dudley. I'm so glad you graced our world. Thank you for all the laughs you gave us xxxx

  • ='(

  • Oh my god. Poor man. It hurts to see him like this!!! Heart wrenching!!!!

  • This just killed me. My Dad told me to look this up because my Grandmother has PSP and so little is still know about it.

  • I wish to hug him... :(

  • OMG R.I.P

  • We were robbed of Duds!

  • Bless his heart. His talents have been such a blessing to us all. I surely miss him. He was such a funny man, playing Arthur. I will remember him with laughter as Arthur and with great admiration for his musical genius.

  • My Dad died from this disease 17 years ago. It is one of the worst, most agonizing ways to spend the end of your life. My sympathy to anyone who has this God-awful disease.

  • I'm sorry I watched this. Poor Dudley.

  • Oh, Cuddly Dudley...

  • tragedy x I remember the British tabloids trying to portray him as an alcoholic...sick...The world is poorer without him x

  • Thanks for the update,Dudley Moore is brilliant actor and pianist. No one knew that it wasn't booze, but his neurological system that made him stagger and slur his speech.

  • phew , its very sad. What a brave man.

  • One of the greatest Souls on screen!, God bless you, I'm sure you're playing Piano with him. Love You!

  • an all time comedy and music great. The worst part of it all for Dudley was not the accusations of being drunk, or the falling over but no longer being able to play the piano. Music was his life.

  • God bless you, Dudley. Thank you. 'Nuff said

  • He was a guy I looked up to - who made me laugh - who made me marvel at the sound a piano could produce - so much talent and great wit .... Rest In Peace Dudley ....

  • It is in situations as this that I'm convinced that a benign God cannot possibly exist out there. The implications would be too terrifying, unjust and insufferable to allow for such a being - no matter what they teach you in catechism class. Better to know our pains and fears will end one day, and we won't be reminded of them for eternity.

  • His movies made a difference during my childhood. I am really sad after watching this, but thanks for posting!

  • Life is tough... We coast for a time and think it's easy. Then trouble starts... Reality hits. Injury, disease, inability to engage in normal activities. Soul searching follows. Adjusting.

  • Heartbreaking to see this happen to such a good person. He was a great talent.

  • Hearing and seeing him talk about not being able to play the piano is one of the rare occasions I have wept watching TV, and I am pretty hard-nosed and cynical. Such tragedy always seems so unfair - but then life never has been fair, has it?

  • OH my heart broke when he spoke of his sadness of not being able to play piano any longer & he looked down at his hands, crying. Oh my goodness, I'm going to cry..so sad. What a brilliant musician and actor. If I ever saw his 4th wife Nicole, I'd punch her in the face. The shit I have read about what she had done to Dudley makes me so angry. He was taking care of her & her whole greedy family, including her AIDS infested ex-husband.Dudley wasnt a Saint but he sure didn't deserve a bitch like Nicole.

  • @princesspinkfloyd Totally agree

  • *gives you hand-woven silk tissue, princesspinkfloyd.

  • True creative genius -- wish I could have met him. No offense to Russell Brand but I don't think he realizes how brilliant Dudley was, otherwise he would have never accepted the role in the new "Arthur". This remake had been kicking around the studios for years but most executives (with half a brain) KNEW there was no one who could hold a candle to Dudley... Warner Brothers should be ashamed!

  • Comment removed

  • Neither Dudley, nor anyone else for that matter, develops PSP because of "bad life choices" (we know what you mean). Too bad you didn't educate yourself regarding the disease before you embarrassed yourself with stupid and self-righteous judgmental criticism of the man. A simple Google search for PSP would have done the trick.

Yes, seeing Dudley suffer is absolutely heartbreaking, and heartbreaking as well to have comments like yours muck up the site.

  • It was heartbreaking to watch this , he continues to be an inspiration when I watch him play...to bad he never performed with Victor Borge could there be a funnier team.Im sure he is bringing smiles in Heaven.

  • I can't express how sad and heartbreaking this is

    I love you Dudley <3

  • I grew up watching his films as a kid Arthur,Micky & Maude & Like Father like Son............r.i.p Dudley...

  • Shame Dudley lived in America,England has much better health care than

    America.

  • @mistaben2k For the rich, the USA has much better health care than any other country in the world, especially England. For the rich, England is total shit compared to the USA.

  • This is what my grandmother passed away from this evening. They are unsure of what causes PSP, and I hope that they find more about the disease in time.

  • Truly heartbreaking..., I knew that he loved to play the piano, & he was so gifted at it also. When Barbara asked Dudley about his missing his playing I couldn't help but tear up especially when he looked down at his hands. His spirit lives on in such films as 10, Foul Play & of course, Arthur. I've seen the remake - it fucking sucks!

  • rip my friend.

  • :(

  • Before anyone sees that remake of Arthur --- think maybe you should see this very heart breaking of what became of Dudley Moore --- think U may change your mind n seeing the remake after seeing this.

  • Damn, this is unbelievably sad to watch. I truly hope he's in a better place now and is restored.

  • Thank you for posting this. I have a neurological issue that had 3 neurologists tell me was just anxiety. I saw Dr. Gizzi and inside of 5 minutes of looking at my eyes his suspicion was proven to be correct. My rare disorder is nothing as bad as Dudley Moore's was. But in knowing Dr. Gizzi for 10 years, it would be more difficult to find a better doctor or a more empathetic human being. Dudley knew in his last days that his doctors truly sorrowed that he was stricken with this dreadful disease.

  • Rena was a saint...nice to know Dudley had someone that unselfish and kind in his last years.

  • When he says he misses playing the piano and looks down at his hands - shattering.

  • @orpheusreborn Yes- staring at his hands as if they've betrayed him. They know what to do and how to play a piano, but they just refuse to. It's a heartbreaking moment.

  • @orpheusreborn oh my god how sad that was

  • @orpheusreborn Awful. I think that says it all. All the rest didn't matter. Music...

  • @orpheusreborn Yes, that was the most poignant moment of the piece. He was a good pianist. And he played with and for some of the greats. Very few people in this world got to do what he did and meet the people he did. He had more than his share of celebrity, money, and good times. Nothing to regret except that he could've lived a little longer. He did well. I do not feel sorry for him.

  • Heartbreaking. Poor Dudley...such a comedic genius.

  • makes me sad to see something like this happen to a guy who made me laugh until my sides hurt

  • Dudley Moore was one of the greatest actors ever.

  • He was such a great actor. So so sad... :(

  • I've been looking around for this one......I remember seeing it when it was first broadcast and at the time it was the most heartbreaking things I've ever watched. Seeing it again is still just as heartwrenching as it was all those years ago.

  • It kills me to see him like that. Wish he could play as much music as he wants now, do what he love the most. I miss you. I'm sure lots of people miss you, too, Dudley.

  • Beautiful and so sad
