  • @marcopolo735 This video isn't taken in Garrys Mod. It uses the standard singleplayer source engine. Any real Hl2 fan should be able to tell the difference between the shitty hl2dm engine used for Gmod and the standard singleplayer one, including differences such as the changed weapon fov, crosshair, speed of movement, weakness of weapons, reload animations, etc

  • @marcopolo735 Dude, I know what Half-Life 2 and Garrys Mod are. Garrys Mod is NOT Half-Life 2, it is just a sandbox mod for Source Engine which happens to come with the ability to utilize content from hl2. This video isn't taken in Garrys Mod and has absolutely nothing to do with Garrys Mod.

    I know there is legal issues but since Head First productions has disbanded, unless you decide to make money out of this and piss off the copyright holders currently managing CoC's copyright, you shouldn't be having issues with that.

    For those with doubt, just look at yourself and ask could Bethesda really give a fuck about a dead game in this point of time? Look at the other mods ripping off content of dead games (Alice, Conker, etc).

  • I didn't disband it, but to keep up with the times, I have collapsed it to be rebuilt into a newer engine.

  • Well, I've been seeing what I can get from "Dark Corners of the Earth" into HL2. This video is prehistoric now. At the moment I have a whole stack of neat things into the game, such as a double barrel shotgun, and a Thompson M1921.

  • Heh, no problems. It won't be the entire DCOTE, as that's a heck of an effort requiring a huge team, but it will have some stuff ported over.

    Dark Corners of the Earth is actually to be remade by a certain game company in the future.

  • replace the pistol with the magnum (its more classy. also, make it a bit weaker since it is a pistol and therefor, the weakest weapon.) and make the smg and the shotgun into something more classy like a tommy gun or something

  • Well, Colt 1911's were common back then, as well as .45 caliber M1917 revolvers (No .357 magnum back then!). The SMG and shotgun will be changed to a Thompson and Iver Johnson Hercules.

  • So you have a time line set for your game and are puting in guns that existed in that time.

  • Why thankyou! I only did the skinning and resounding in this example mind you. The Colt 1911 pistol was modelled by someone else who worked on the team.

  • A lot of work still to do, eh? But a Lovecraft inspired mod for hl2 would be great. Like the one for hl1, google "an unspeakable modification" if you aren't familiar with it.

  • GL with the mod! But plz plz plz dont lose all the features that made CoC such an unforgetable game. I mean- get rid of the cross, IS only! Add head bobbing (add head...sheesh that sounds terrible), slow it down. Come to think of it, the outdated gfx only served that game and were so in sync with the theme and the era it took place in- lose the mod... nah, just kiddin.

    But what about Bethesda? wont they be really pissed if youll publish CoC as a Source mod?

  • Bethesda don't hold the rights to Call of Cthulhu, Call of Cthulhu is based on the works of HP Lovecraft, a brilliant author. I need the mythos licence to publish it, and not only that, I will be introducing many features cut from the game such as:

    Sprinting

    Shock effects

    Swinging out revolver cylinder to check rounds

    And miscellaneous more things.

    It's not just a source mod, this will soon be fully licenced on a heavily-modified Source Engine. Wait and see ;)

  • Yes, an entirely new game. Although what you see in the video here has nothing to do with my game, it's just some DCOTE fun ported to hl2.

  • I never really noticed, but Gordon Freeman reloads the revolver so fast it shouldn't be possible. Eh. Whatever, it's still a great series.

  • He uses a moon clip. Look them up, they are used for speedloading.

  • The strangest thing happened a few days after I posted that comment. I noticed someone on the TV loading a revolver really fast and thought "Maybe he has something holding the bullets in a circle." So I figured it out by myself, I do that sometimes. But thanks for telling me what it was (And that I was right).

    Yeah, for most of my life, I've done small multimedia stuff for fun, submitted screenshots and 3d stuff, but I generally don't get much recognition (Someone on deviantart could post a jpeggy stick figure and get 30000 views in a minute, whereas I make a 3d model, it gets 2 views in 6 days!).

    I'm taking after Romero and Gabe by always responding to each and every comment I receive!

  • Yipes! That came out ambigious. I'm not saying your work is bad, but if you work really hard on something, it generally doesn't increase views (at least not for me), so I just do a basic effort or more and let time get views.

  • Yeah, without actual Lovecraftian monsters, or at the very least an Elder Sign, there's nothing that makes this any more Call of Cthulhu than any other HL mod.

  • Weapons taken from the game (except a colt police positive revolver model, a Springfield 1903 and a Thompson. So mainly a couple of texture reskins, sounds, colt 1911 model, etc.

  • OK, but with a title like that, you kind of expect...shoggoths, tentacled monstrosities and elder beings from beyond to be a part of the mod.

  • Well, take a look at the handgun. Yes the revolver needs to be converted from a .357 Python into a Colt Police Positive. The 9mm USP is now a .45 1911 handgun (as you can see) but yes the Thompson machine gun + shotgun need models.

    The Yithian Energy weapon would look like a good Gravity gun too.
