  • One of my favorite drummers. This guy is amazing!

  • He really uses his minimal kit to great advantage - for example, at 1:30 when we jump into the bridge vocals, he's using his snare (really hard hits) as the bright punch of the section, then when the guitars drop an octave and get heavier he switches to the double bass for the emphasis. Just great instincts, and a lot of years ahead of him to improve his already excellent skills...

  • his drumming works incredibly well with mastodon. they are the best band ever because of the technical differences of each member

  • He's a minimalist in terms of his kit, I think he could do with one more floor tom and a China cymbal.

  • looots of drum fills everytime, everywhere...

  • iron cobras ftw

  • He messed up at 2:04 a little bit. but i dont know how you couldnt on such an amazing technical song.

    Mastadon For life!!!!

  • I love Brann because he doesn't need to go nuts with the double bass. His style blends perfectly with Mastodon's bluesy take on prog and stoner metal.

  • 0:25 - 0:28 he makes that fill / transition seem like its fuckin nothing!!

  • Damn good drummer, love his style

  • One of the greatest drummers of his generation.

  • that is how a kickdrum should be stomped!

  • this Dailor kid can lay it down.

  • The only thing i dislike about this video is his ear rings... other than that :D

  • Not only a great drummer, but it was cool on their DVD when like the only kid in a wal mart that knew who brann dailor and mastodon were, approached him and he took him back to the tour bus and gave him some signed shit. Made that kid's night.

  • What song is this?

  • @borntoball15x crystal skull

  • what song is this?

  • @InuKiba1 Crystal Skull

  • bran over portnoy drummin any day of the week but goes to show cannot argue about taste because i like portnoy as a drummer but the music surrounding his drums it's not my cup of tea and mastodon is!(saw them live at graspop absolutely brilliant!)

  • Better than Dave Lombardo? Yes? Or no?

  • @lololosergio I love Brann in Mastodon, and I love Dave for his work in Fantomas. But I don't really like Slayer. So, I'm going with Brann on this one.

  • What is the name of the song?

  • @slimbobla Crystal Skull from Blood Mountain!

  • fuck yeah meinl

  • hey guys, what are the cymbals from left to right that Brann dude used? Hihats, crash, ride, then what's that last one??

  • @EvilN00ber 14" MB20 heavy soundwave hats, 19" MB20 heavy crash (I believe thats the size) 20" MB20 heavy crash, and a 20 or 22" MB20 ride. Don't know if it's heavy or medium heavy. Certainly not the heavy bell though

  • @haX0r3 OMG thaaankss!! You're awesome

  • i love him, but he makes surprisingly many mistakes in this video. It is like he cant hear the backing track.

  • @michael3700 I think the problem may have been that he's gotten used to playing the song at a much faster speed while touring.

  • I can't figure out how Brann does that bit that goes around the drums with the double kick....just bloody awesome!

  • @Loewra827 Meinl Mb20 18", 20" heavy crashes. 22" heavy ride, 14" or 15" heavy soundwave hats. not really sure.

  • this is all the reasons you need to stay away from triggers on snare and toms. also, how the hell is the highest rated comment for this video gonna be about the dude's shoes? that's incredibly stupid.

  • @wolfboii999 You're incredibly stupid. LOLOLOLOLOLO IR FUNNEH

  • @wolfboii999 I agree on the triggered snare. I don't think Brann usually uses triggers, though I'm not sure.

However, that trigger is a really ugly sound on that snare. It's a Tama, it sounds beautiful naturally. No need to mess it up with triggers. Personally, I am okay with triggers on the kick, though for Brann's drumming and musical style, those triggers stand out like a sore thumb. His triggered drums sound way too bright for the music, not enough of a dark, bass, drum resonance to it

  • @wolfboii999 hes not using triggers on the snare....or the toms

  • @JackMehoff845 exactly my point ;)

  • @DavidDecapitation ohhh!!

  • @Loewra827 Meinl Byzance

  • I love Mastodon, but his drummer is so overrated. He fucks up in this video...a lot.

  • @yakbutter78 He's offbeat once towards the end, and he made a little fluke in the first half but recovered it in a way making it unnoticeable to people that don't know mastodon's songs by heart.

The drummer isn't overrated, he's what he is, and he's damn good. Obviously he isn't Portnoy, Mangini, Peart level. The age difference kind of compensates.

  • @molomono Oh he's on portnoy's level, mangini's and peart's as well. He's just up there with a totally different style. Brann Dailor is one of the most creative drummers to ever live by far. His earlier work with Mastodon is probably his best though because that's when they were at their heaviest and he was required to be more technical. Plus it's hard to play to your own song without your band. Who knows there could've even been some technical difficulties but we'd never know for sure.

  • @Yeahhhh444 He's technical, accents like a pro, buddy rich style. Got that brilliant voice on drums, when he plays you know it's him playing.

But he lacks the experience that Peart, Portnoy and other drummers at that level have.

Kind of like a diamond in the rough, but half the diamond is already cut and shining beautify, yet he still can improve on what he has.

I'd say that's a good thing, basically i'm saying he hasn't reached his peak yet.

  • @molomono ya drummers like but drummers like peart, portnoy, and carey are all 15-25 years older then him as well. hes ONLY got room to improve at this point, he has a very very long career ahead of him

  • @molomono And his hands are so smoooooooooth rollin on that snare

  • @molomono Of course, he´s yound, yet pretty good. Jazz influences are good for every single drummer.

  • @molomono No musician ever reaches a peak. Every time they play, they get better. It's a constant growth of skill unless they stop playing for a period of time or physically can't do it anymore.

  • @lionslicer9999 There is a point when age catches up to their abilities and people start to loose mobility.

You need really good technique or you will start to slowly get worse.

  • @lionslicer9999 Lovin the reference in your username... Just saying.

  • @molomono ........ absolutely wrong on every conceivable level. portnoy? wank-rock has nothing to do with this genre AT ALL. once your pube-count excedes 7 then you can pontificate about who's "reached their peak"... until then just enjoy the fucking music. you can name-drop when your at arsehole-camp with the rest of your sphincter happy crowd. you american kids really fuck me off big style. WHO GIVES TWO FUCKS WHAT YOU THINK YOU FUCKING ARSE BANDIT

  • @needlessidiocy Pontificate, sphincter, areshole-champ....

Big words for such a small boy, and i think you very well know who gives at least THREE fucks what I "the fucking arse bandit" think, and that is quite frankly you, based on your reaction.

  • @needlessidiocy if you dont have something positive to say keep your mouth shut bitch

  • @molomono I agree. Brann never had a formal drum education that many other big drummers nowadays have had. However, at least for me, that is what in a sense makes him so iconic. I've never really had any traditional, regimented lessons on the drumset. The only lesson I had was for about two or three weeks but that was super basic intro stuff.

However, I digress; Brann has accomplished a lot, but he still has a lot of room to grow, as does any musician.

  • @Turk656 I think the fact that he didn't take classes made him better; made him a musician and no a drummer. He developed his own style and raw energy. I think that's what people who play instruments should learn - learn to be themselves and express themselves, not what the guy next door can do. ^^

  • @molomono i think he improved a lot since this vid was shot

  • @yakbutter78 How can you say he fucks up in his own work?

  • j'adore ce batteur parce que , il a pas besoin de tones de tom et de cymbales pour ecrasé la baraque !!! , et en plus on aurait dit qu'il force meeme pas X)

  • Looks like Nick Swardson on steriods.

  • could you all pay attention to his drumming than his god damn shoes :D:D

    he plays awesome :)

  • I own a pair of those Vans shoes, they work great for drumming cause they are nice and squishy, good flex to them. Plus the flat thin soles really feel good on the pedals. Chuck tailors are really good too.

  • song name ??

  • @razhel3 Crystal skull

  • @michael3700 thanks mate

  • Happy Birthday Brann Dailor!!!

  • the only metal drummer with groove..

  • @jewis101 umm, chris addler.

  • I do not understand metal hammer! Brann is so much better than Joey (Slipknot)

  • He's so metal, but has such incredible fucking feel and rhythm.

  • crystal skull track 2 off of blood mountain

  • what song is this

  • aah his rolls are so damn clean and fast. brann is AWESOME.

  • 2 fails in 2 minutes (1.05 & 2.05). good for brann, HE IS HUMAN!

  • @woqer i don't know if i'd go so far as to call them fails (especially considering the drummer). More like slips.

  • @CLANGxx man i love his drumming. Actually because of this video i decide to cover this song with my band XD

  • @woqer yeah, hes incredible. one of the few bands that i find the drumming the most interesting individual thing going on.

  • so underrated......:(

  • He has a very well put together Drum kit i like it

  • @Falcondown

A very efficient kit. Set up for comfort not hype

  • its not about the size of the kit lol if your a good drummer you can play good on any size kit

  • @SuperMusician16 case in point: john bonham.

  • Man brann is awesome, not only because of the way he plays but also in what he plays, this kit is regular sized and he pulls all this crazy licks.

  • ohh shit someone tell me which song is this ????

  • @vagBehemoth its crystal skull ^^

  • Though he lacks in showmanship, Brann is a BRILLIANT musician along with the rest of Mastodon and I take much influence from them. I've seen them twice and they put on a great show. Highly recommended. Cheers to you, Mr. Dailor.

  • @Zeppelinm16

I dunno. I think his style is his showmanship. I mean, just look at his shoes. He just looks awesome playing the drums.

  • @pckl300 Haha fair enough :P

  • @DoctorDoomXIII haha i love you man

  • @DoctorDoomXIII that statement makes absolutely no sense. Also, sarcasm is often a sign of weak and insignificant genitalia.

  • @DoctorDoomXIII ya caught me. i know MrMNblizzard and i just wanted to piss him off since he creams in his pants when anyone mentions Brann Dailor.

oh, and i told your mom last night to try just a little, little harder too. ibeTROLLIIN!!!

  • BRANN DAILOR IS THE FUCKING MAN ! ! !

  • does anyone know what kind of ride cymbal taht is?

  • @TheGerthax I believe it's a Meinl Meteor, but you know what they say: justf*ckinggoogleit . c o m! :D

  • @XxSharkBatexX its an M8 medium ride

  • Wow i never knew that this is what god looked like when you give him steroids and put him near drums? xD

  • Rumors are going around that he might be the new Avenged Sevenfold drummer.

This video has proven him worthy of filling the spot.

  • @MsBrittsyVengenz he's defnitley over-qualified for this job

  • @johnnybrop you must have never listened to anything mastodon has done other than this video...

  • @MsBrittsyVengenz

    please god no.

  • @MsBrittsyVengenz no lol fail. there are also rumors that he could replace mike portnoy. i dont think he will considerign hes busy with mastodon. if he went to A7X anyway he would be a massive sell out.

  • @TheGerthax brann is not leaving mastodon i dont know where you heard that rumor

  • @JediFulton i know its just a rumor. the guy i replied to was saying brann could be the new A7X and i was giving another BS rumor i heard to tell him how dumb his was. brann shouldnt leave mastodon, hes PERFECT with them

  • @MsBrittsyVengenz brann dailor was qualified for avenged sevenfold when he was 10.

  • @conterooski AHAHAHAHAHAHA nice call!

  • @MsBrittsyVengenz Why would anybody who plays good metal like the guys in Mastodon play that crappy scene bullshit with a7x?

  • Brann must be an alien because his talent is out of this world!!!

  • whoever dislikes this is a homo!!!!!!!!!!

  • he get nerves at 2:06 jajaja happen to the best¡¡ Brann ruless¡

  • @CONFIGURATRON Naahhh, he just wanted to make other ppl look good cuz he was stealing their thunder xD

  • @CONFIGURATRON No, the Song Skipped, go listen to it on their Album.

  • NICE A REAL DRUMMER!!!!!!!!!!

  • I saw this guy at ozzfest 05, he was badass. He was talking to someone while he was rockin out.

  • What kind cymbal he use?

  • @nonposs1 meinl

  • @metal666silviu I dont have ever heard this cymbals , but ok.

  • @nonposs1 theyre great

  • no need for huge, useless drumset

  • @metal666silviu For real!!no big useless double bass-just one of the best modern heavy drummers on a regualr kit sounding bigger and badder than most! Thanks for you ACCURATE post!

  • what song is this that he's playing to?

  • @Turk656 Mastodon (which is the band Brann drums for) and the song is: Crystal skull (from the album blood mountain)

  • This guy can drum.

  • he makes so much awesomeness with such a small kit

  • best........drummer.......EVER

  • What song is he playing along to?

  • @timmotjo17 crystall skull

  • Plus I want his vans shoes dammit.

  • @LetsGetHighOnMorris Go back to warped tour

  • @LetsGetHighOnMorris lol i got the slip on blade catcher shoes....people always compliment me on them even though im sure they have no idea who mastodon is...

  • @morbidminister666 Got the bladecatcher high tops myself and think they're awesome. Gotta love Mastodon :)

  • @LetsGetHighOnMorris what's that? huh, a brand? anyway I want it too lol, just because God wore it..

  • Ok this man is Jesus............

  • I love how he doesnt need a fucking city sized kit like most of the self conscious drummers today.

  • oh my god is he playing ghost notes with his legs at 1.48? awesome..

  • @gawiur Yeah, man... It's awesome. It doesn't care for me to watch him failing. Mastodon's big trouble is that they can't take their awesome album sound to their live shows...

  • @dizcousido hey, he's actually one of my favourite drummers, i didn't said as a negative thing :P

  • @gawiur I know it. Freaky left foot ghost notes at least... hahaha

  • the kit sounds awesome!

  • what i like about Brann is that it seems to me he favours faster hands than feet.. something which alot of metal drummers dont do.. not that i have a problem with that, but its refreshing to see metal drumming done like that..

  • shoulda done blood and thunder

  • @tchumpponis haha screw that he should have done capillarian crest

  • If the flash were to play drums I think it would be something like this

  • @MrMNblizzard HA superhero joke.agreed

  • @MrMNblizzard

what about that jonas brothers kid. man he's like REALLY good...

  • @ReverendMaynardJ obvious troll is obvious

  • @cheezit99 thank you Capt. Obvious

  • @MrMNblizzard on energizer..

  • He kicks so much ass XD

  • i love the drum sound here. the snare is like high pitched, but still has meat to it

  • 2:06

  • @chixidix They must have accidentally hit vote down.

  • he uses triggers?

  • @Wiru77 no he dose not use triggers

  • @Wiru77 Triggers use him

  • OMG HE LIEK MESST IT UP SOO BAD AT LIKE 1:10 ;D

  • The natural heir to Nicko McBrain.

  • What's the song name?

  • @Gasb92 Crystal Skull

  • @Oxidized Thanks!

  • Now Seriously, This guy freaking ROCKSS!!

but who here thinks Thomas Pridgoen (sp) of The Mars Volta is about equal to Brann in skillmanship and kinda similar style.

  • @CrystalTrees5mcs I think Pridgeon is a more complete and better drummer overall. That's not saying Dailor is bad, he's awesome! But Pridgeon is in a higher division!

  • @Oxpost Maybe thats true. But i think that their rolls are about equal in speed and creativity, its hard for me to like Thoms fills any more than Branns.

  • @CrystalTrees5mcs I beg to differ on the creativity part. Brann is very creative, for a metal-drummer, but Pridgeon is, to me, one of the most creative drummers out there. When you're playing for a band like TMV you've got to be able to do some extremely weird and hard stuff for it all to come together!

  • @Oxpost i meant rolls as in snare/tom rolls, i think they both have a talent for unique fills. but yeah pridgeon can take the groove to another level it seems.

  • @CrystalTrees5mcs they both play actually pretty different styles; i don't think brann's full talent shows nearly as much as tom's with the style of music he plays. brann's talent showed more in the album Remission. it's hard to say what drummer is better

  • @th3m4rzv0lt4 (nice name) Yes, exactly! What i wouldnt pay for just Brann's Drum tracks from Remission!! u can tell he is heavily involved in the song writing process though, i think blood mountain is his legacy, even if its not his most talented work. But now he is drumming + singing at same time, so its a different level entirely. The drumming on Skye is covered up a lot by additional percussion sounds and overall song structure takes precedence over any member showing off it seems.

  • Its not brann dailor but Brann DaiLORD!!!!!!!!!!!

  • such an underrated drummer i've never seen someone play as beastly as brann does he is a new breed of drummer

  • This guy is so f'n amazing, great technique, great carisma, one of my fav drummers.

  • Stunning drummer - takes a lot of concentration to play like that.

  • i really dont understand the fuss about this guy, come on people its dull

  • FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-. I get chills watching him play.

  • Looks to me like he's wearing a pair of Vans; this guy is gifted, no doubt about it!

  • Oh no! This drumming must have fried 39 peoples brain so bad they accidently hit the dislike button. I hope they are OK now.

  • I dont see what is so good about Brann? He doesnt have his own style, he isnt fast, isnt creative, isnt musical, doesnt keep in time or change time well, i do like that he actually uses dynamics, but on the whole he isnt overly impressive for me.

  • @MachineHeadohYeah You don't know anything about drumming, have you heard songs like calliparian crest and island? He can play as fast as he wants, and can change between Jazz and metal in one song, he and Danny Carey are the best living drummers.

  • @MachineHeadohYeah wow, i totally disagree, specially after listening to their last album, Crack in the Sky is a masterpiece and the drumming is intricate, beatiful in fact. I think you just need to be more open minded

  • @MachineHeadohYeah

You try playing in front of the greatest group of drummers ever assembled and see how well you fare.

Brann is a very good drummer, and while this wasn't the best song in terms of showing his abilities, you're missing all the little nuances of his technique.

  • @MachineHeadohYeah branns drumming is more melodic and much more musical than the typical 4/4 heads out there like the rev (hes not actually out there anymore) but brann dailor is a god compared to most drummers out there today.

  • How cool is Brann though...
