I wouldn't say Dave's technically one of the best ever, but he has a great feel, and comes up with some wickedly inventive beats. Songs For the Deaf is probably his finest hour. Granted any decent drummer could play what he does, but to actually think up half of that shit is pretty impressive. That triplet fill at 3:08 was pretty damn cool, IMO.

Looks like a remo controlled sound on the snare, the toms are coated probably remo emperors, I can't tell what the bass drum head is. I also can't tell what the bottom heads are on the toms, but they're probably remo ambassador clears, as those are the most common remo tom reso heads.
