I thought this was unique and creative. Someone thought it was useless. When was the last time you saw modern art that was useful? Art is meant to be looked at not to be used like a can opener. How many of the people who dislike this piece have enough creative abilities to display in an exhibit? In the 90s, an artist took donations to "plant" acres and acres of big yellow umbrellas in LosAngeles or in Colorado someone tried to hang a tapestry over the CO river.

  • you would really hate to drop a stitch and have to frog or tink it.

  • Now lets see you do some cabling with 1000 strands of yarn

  • y would u want to waste your time doing that?

  • Impressive!

  • How pointless!

  • YOU DIDN'T PUSH ANY BOUNDARIES!

  • Hahahahaha..extreme knitting. Lol

    that's awesome

  • wow im a knitter but wow..... i would love to help you someday.

  • Ya, but just try to hide those end yarn pieces, err chunks! (c;

  • i looooooved this but where do i get my hands on some large needls or do u have to make them urself ?

  • @DeweyManloveJr does that really matter even?

  • @eternalgloryonhigh *understand

  • @DeweyManloveJr you dont have to watch this video you know

  • @DeweyManloveJr im just asking if youd remove your comment its vulgar and mean

  • @DeweyManloveJr what

  • @DeweyManloveJr id aprecite it if youd remove your comment please

  • Comment removed

  • @DeweyManloveJr why would you say such a thing!?

  • That poor yarn...

  • Amazing, inventive and creative. How long did that take you and did you have alot of help?

  • imagine dropping a stitch :S

  • EXTREME KNITTING WIN.

  • i find this to be a huge waste of yarn

  • Okay...now felt it.

  • and then what?

  • The needles should've been larger in diameter. It would be a lil' easier that way.

  • ...and if it were to tangle....

  • and that is how to knit a futon....

  • But will it blend?

  • Woah awesome work!!

  • As a male that knit I want to say u are doing a great work, I will not do it, it look complicated. By the way u r hot.

  • reminds me of something that Wilma or Betty would do on the Flintstones:) Would love to know how to Spin yarn in order to save, wonder if there was a place for people to send yarn scraps what interesting yarn they could make, but with the internet there would most likely be more scrap yarn sent than one could store. That would be so neat if it could be done and the yarn could be used for charity as well as making articles with part of money sent to charities. have to google spinning yarn now:)

  • That was amazing.... I wish I knew how to knit... My grandma showed me once but I don't remember.

  • "artists" truly are insane!!!! it looks like a bunch of knotted threads!!!

  • How would you block this?

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw

    رائع جدا .... good luck

  • why are you doing it with a jacket on? hot much?..

  • I would have gone with thicker needles... but talk about stash-busting! lol

  • WOW!!!!! Thanx for sharing, that was incredible!!!!

  • I LOVE this video! Congrats on the World Record! I don't know why you feel like you need to explain your actions. This looks like it was A LOT of fun. As for doing for the homeless comments. I've spent time knitting hats for the homeless and for our boys overseas. The guys were overjoyed and touched. My hats are well used during the cold winters. The homeless mostly turned their noses up at my handmade hats and said they'd rather have money. Obviously this year I have refocused my efforts.

  • Yes I did read the description. It self justifies the waste and ego for winning a world record, that was the only reason for your initial efforts. Like I asked, did you give the mattress to a homeless person? If time is limited I suggest an electronic knitting machine and garter carriage, you can make blankets as you sleep. No I dint knit I only have one working arm.....

  • @Bruuski I have a great aunt whose arm was severed in a childhood accident. Never stopped her from knitting. She learned to position one need so it was supported by her armpit and she knitted with her good side. it took a bit longer but it NEVER stopped her.

And there WAS NO WASTE. If you didn't comprehend that from actually reading the description then there is little hope for you.

  • that is one lumpy mattress lol

  • Full contact knitting lol

  • Love It!!! Creative

  • Love It!!! Creative

  • How did u get knitting needles that big!!!!!!!!!

  • Waste of time and valuable resources. Next time try making goods for the poor, sick and homeless!! Owwww, you made a world record. Did you give your mattress to some homeless person livin' under a bridge!?!

  • Waste of time and resources. The good people of 'my' society would use those throw away resources to make sweaters, hats and mittens, blankets for the sick, poor and homes of our society. Did you give your mattress to someone living under a bridge!?! Owww you broke a world record!!! Selfishness breeds no good in our society!

  • @Bruuski Did you read the description?

  • Wow, and I would just loved to be able to afford to by some nice yarn to make a few things worth while. : (

  • Wow...amazing! And what a great upper body workout!! Though I think that might be the most horrific waste of yarn I've ever seen in my life....

  • @rasputinsloved1 Read the desc

  • @rasputinsloved1 Did you read the summary under the video at all? No waste.

  • @rasputinsloved1 I agree what a total waste of yarn.

  • Was that throwing? Lol

  • I'll buy a mattress please!

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome.

  • thanks for making this vide .. your effort is appreciated ... Never seen much mount of yarn before, I can't find one here easy .. Can I know from which store or comapny you order all that! :)

  • what were they going to do with it when they were done? its amazing but i couldve used all that yarn to make baby hats and hats for kids with cancer!

  • @charly29ful Read the description, its explains everything.

  • Absolutely amazing!!!! If you ever need yarn for another project like this please don't hesitate to contact me

    anne_germann@yahoo.com

  • Love it! Rhetorical comments next: Would like to see you CO, P7tog (yes 7 ), Psso, Ssk, K2tog, BO and weave in the tails. Did you gauge this? LOL!! Can you do entrelac with this system? Ugh!

What size are those needles? LOL! Can you crochet, too. @@ I do both - not with 1,000 strands, though! ((:

What's your next project? Well, anyhow, I S & S this rascal and want to thank you for brightening my day!!

    DRM

  • I think her gauge is off a little. ; )

  • Love the Video. Cool!

  • @ExtremeTextiles you have to understand that YouTube commenters tend to be kids from lower socioeconomic classes. They tend to have trouble understanding anything more complicated than a cheeseburger, yet are quite judgmental. Don't let it bug ya!

  • What a complete waste of resources.

  • @NateinMpls How so?

  • @MsJK21 Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. All that yarn wasted just to make a small square is excess. I don't care if you want to call that art, I think it idea of using all that yarn for such a creation is absurd. 1000 balls of yarn could be used to knit clothing for the homeless or unfortunate, instead it went into this!

  • @NateinMpls Could you take several minutes and read the video description? There, do you feel better? Less angry perhaps? Good! Take a couple of deep breaths with me. In-n-n-n-n-n and ou-ou-ou-ou-out. In-n-n-n-n-n and ou-ou-ou-ou-out. There you go!

  • @MsJK21 Also, I'm not just pointing a finger at this person. I'm talking about all "artists" who think that extreme excess of materials is alright. Just because the materials are natural doesn't mean we should use them up for producing crap.

  • @NateinMpls Interesting how you call posting a negative comment on this person's video as not pointing the finger at this person. But you're all relaxed now, so let's just let it go, shall we?

  • if i had that much yarn i would just sleep in it and call it a day

  • Wow I have never seen anyone attempt to do this. Awesome Art!!!

  • All that yarn . *drools*

  • WHY?

  • @SKTPSY WHY NOT?

  • @MsJK21 Because, you can use this time and resource for a charity.

  • @SKTPSY Do you mean that *she* could use the time and resource for charity instead of her art? Why do you think you can dictate to artists what they should and shouldn't do? Do you use all your time and resources for charity? If so, good for you!

If not, why not? The answer to that last question will give you the answer to my question of, "why not?"

  • @MsJK21 If everybody spend some of their time time on charity than world would be a better place.

  • @SKTPSY No argument here. Why aren't you spending your time on charity instead of passing judgments on YouTube?

  • @MsJK21 I am off from my charity work due to severe migraine and by the way you could do better than this yourself and do some charity work instead.

  • @SKTPSY Migraines? That would certainly explain your testiness. What explains your assumption that you are the only one doing charity work?

  • @MsJK21 Oh, Go Away, Troll. Leave me alone and bug someone else, loner. Don't bother to post I will be deleting without reading the crap.

  • @SKTPSY Wow! Extremely charitable of you!! I hope your headaches get better.

  • Hi have added a video response, there are 3 in total..wanted to show you my knitting that tends to take over!

  • weird but awesome i wouldnt have had the strength to wrestle with that yarn

  • thats a lot of yarn wish i had that much

  • That's just incredible. There must have been times when you were setting it all up that you didn't know if it would work or not? You showed lots of small balls in the early stage of the setting up - presumably there were all knotted so that you got enough length? Do you know how many meters of each strand you needed to use to make this small mattress? Gosh I'm so intrigued by it all. well done x

  • thats the coolest thing

  • Stashbusting. ^^

  • I went for my license two days ago, and my mom told me to be really relaxed and think of something relaxing. So I thought of this video, and I remembered how Billy drives at 1:32 . I started driving like that, and the cop who was giving the test gave me real attitude. He told me "Out of the car NOW!!!, You're done buddy!". I failed my test. He was so mad, all I could think is he's gonna taser me.

  • hahaha this is cool :D

  • I still love this vid!! Such a cool idea. I also like all the new info you've posted in the "info" box for the vid, especially about the lady who makes new yarn out of bits n pieces of other yarn :)

  • bet*

  • I beat this mattress would be super comfortable made out of tons of soft yarn. :D

  • Wow! Good job!

  • Wow Wow wow amazing!!!! just received my 3.5kg kit of yours and 24mmx700mm needles so im off to make a lovely throw :o)......how many yarns do you think I should use,I have 7 in the kit.

  • not to be too picky, but the expression is "nth" degree, not "endth" degree. as in n for infinity. otherwise lovely.

  • wow. just looking at that amount of yarn... that's insane!

    so so so cool!!!

  • tht was AWESOME :D i loved it! i bet the receipt for was as big as all that yarn

  • wow talk about insperation

  • Or at least I think so. I'm an engineer and can do Calculus, Differential Equations etc. but I would LOVE to be able to do this sort thing OR have a wife capable of doing such a thin! Very attractive!!!! I love from the inside!! NOT THE FUCKING OUTSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OMFG these girls are BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!!!!! AND very good at knitting.

  • that was amazing...i wud love to have a mattress like that!

  • I bet she deals all the bulletproof armors to the local police.

  • That is.... intense.

Here I am watching this with some rough dk wool, thinking ooh this is getting tangled, this is kinda hard.

  • Holy Bageeberz! You almost beat my record. But you failed slightly miserably (Yet to no ones fault really, so don't worry k) you see, I just completed a 1001 string strand knit parka. - You'll get there. Keep trying.

  • I thought the colors were divided, on purpose, but I guess not. I don't want to knock it, as I'm sure they went through a lot of effort... but at the end, I guess the project lacked a big bang. :( As art goes, it's "okay." They could have done more with it, in my honest opinion... As is, it's a waste of yarn. I applaud the big effort, though.

  • hmm and I thought socks were tricky

  • I thought it lacked creativity. 1000 strands, 2000 strands, 10,000 strands. Gee, if you can fit your arms around it, why not go for that many? Sorry, just not impressed. Now if she had used the yarn to knit an elaborate tapestry using multi-stranded colorwork and intarsia, now that would have been impressive.

  • Well, considering she started extreme knitting, I guess she needed a challenge. It is interesting, as an experiment in textile creation. I've been playing with just 7 strands and big knitting needles and it's very satisfying.

The rest of the wool was undoubtedly used for a lot of other projects. I'm exhausted from watching, though. Imagine how difficult that must have been. She probably felt a lot of muscle soreness for a long time!

  • 3:15 aweome looking

  • I thought this was a waste of yarn - the mattress looked uncomfortable - and how would you clean it ? Rag rugs are more environmentally friendly as they use recycled material and can be washed, and are easy to make with a rag rug tool.

  • I thought this was unique and creative. Someone thought it was useless. When was the last time you saw modern art that was useful? Art is meant to be looked at not to be used like a can opener. How many of the people who dislike this piece have enough creative abilities to display in an exhibit? In the 90s, an artist took donations to "plant" acres and acres of big yellow unbrellas in the mountains north of Los Angeles. Someone was killed by one of them. Now that exhibit was useless.

  • @FilmNoirFan1 Creative ability has no bearing on whether someone's allowed to voice their opinion about art.

  • i can only imagine the pain in the arms after a while..but this looked amazing..the way the yarns looked together before and after the knitting..it was great..congrats!

  • They used Cinematic Orchestra!

  • I could use that much yarn for the rest of my life!

  • Okay now I get it after I read the rest of the info under the video!! :0 It really is quite fascinating and really beautiful to see and of the strands of yarns drawn up and all of the colors together are very pretty! What a work out!

  • Interesting! What I don't get is how all of that yarn was considered waste!?

  • I totally loved this video. I think it is a wonderful way of using up waste yarn to create something beautiful and functional. Just because it isn't being used as knitting would be traditionally used doesn't mean it is not a functional piece of textile work. At the end they were able to sit on it like a floor cushion or it could be used as a mattress.

Like others I would have liked to see it bound off and a view from above. Thank you for making such an inspirational video.

  • I love it! Where's the finished piece on display?

  • I think this knitted "cushion" is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! A work of Art!

Those who think it's a waste of yarn would prolly think Michelangelo was

wasting paint in the Sistine Chapel, too!

  • That has got to be one of the best, most insane things I have seen in a long time!

  • @micheinnz They said the same thing to Michelangelo when he was paintin' away in the Sistine Chapel!

  • man !!! the knitting part looks like a workout !

  • I would do anything for that much yarn...oh why, cant someone sponcer me to just knit?

  • Too much yarn is used for an unfinished product. Be a bit less creative and you will have a better finished product! :)

  • Who wants to weave in ends?! :D

  • yabadabadooooooooo!

  • WHY!???????????

  • @aflojo WHY? Because she can....

  • Boring video, bad 80 porno music and, not to mention, a total waste of good yarn. I dislike modern art that is just wasteful.

  • what a waste!

  • fuck modern art

  • useless

  • Gorgeous, love all the colors together, imagine what dreams you would have sleeping on an ocean of color!

  • what if she drops a stitch.......

  • i was at a convention recently and this surpassed what they showed us there lol good job

  • so much i could have done with all that lovley yarn...*sigh*

  • I was just perusing the knitting clips and found this insane but cool video. I wonder if the mattress in comfy.

  • Why is this so useless .... self-centered bstrds ... what if u drop a stitch ... can u really make a livin outta this shit?

  • I bet that was quite a workout. :P

  • The ultimate in stash-busting!

  • beautiful!

  • The mix of colors is beautiful! Like a piece of art.

  • how'd i get here from looking at freerunning bails...

  • That's gonna be one big F***ing sweater when she's done ...

  • COOLNESS!!!

  • WOAH! AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL! In AWE!

  • at 3:10 it looks like a rainbow :)

  • i can haz yarn?!?!?!? D:

  • I wonder if she knitted a swatch first to measure her gauge! lol. But seriously, that was pretty impressive!

  • That's lovely. I'd like to see what it would look like finished, assuming that she'll be using all her fibers....It's just visually stunning and I bet the details of being able to see all those strands is even more thrilling.

God, I love art. It's the most sincere act of "doing"

  • This brings a whole new meaning to knit one, purl one... :o

  • holy crud :0

  • it doesn't look worth the effort! she looks like she is struggling to much for something that is meant to be a fun, relaxing hobby..

  • what a waste of yarn.

  • A bit excessive, but sooooo cool at the same time! I agree with mamasandlesamesa too.

  • Think of all the cold sheep

  • What I wouldn't do for that much yarn.

  • I wish I had that much yarn on hand

  • that wood suck to drop a stich

  • this video is 6:59 min, but they wont start knitting untill 5:10!!

  • this video is 6:59 min, but they wont start knitting untill 5:10!!

  • You'd have to be such a boring person not to like this!

You could make alternatives to large bean bag seats in this way. The finished product looks fantastic. And the John's have made a brilliant film. Love the use of Flite as the tune for the final 'knitting' section.
