The 'joke' hinges on McGregor having played a Jedi in a hugely popular movie. It doesn't work on the level of an 'inside joke' because everybody in the audience knows that McGregor played a Jedi. The 'suspension of disbelief' in this movie will be at risk every time George Clooney's character refers to himself as a Jedi in front of McGregor. It's clumsy NOT
