i got a question? can this run any android app? for example graphing calculator apps and metric, engineering conversions, etc. Not really interested in angry birds or that other shit. Just trying to see if i should buy a hacked version of this instead of an overpriced TI calculator.

I'm not a fan of reading books on a backlit screen. But, I think the Nook Color is a great way to get an inexpensive Android tablet.

@chickachickayeah27 No. Rooting is easily reversible - almost every rooting guide details how to make a backup and implement it in case something goes wrong, you change your mind, etc. As far as speed goes, a great number of people use it to speed up the Nook (at the cost of battery life).

Of course the Nook had sound! And yeah you got WiFi no 3G though. The rooting is a download. To do it you will need a SD card. for more info on ''ROOTING'' type 'rooting the nook color' on youtube and they will teach you some stuff. Rooting is NOT illeagal. When you buy the nook color it DOES NOT come with the android market. Simply because it doesent advertise for other devices. plus Barns & Nobel made it as their own so, they make their own software.

That is cool!! Does this nook let you use stock software and android at the time?...like mergered together instead of either/or. Most roots ive seen dont allow you to us the nooks preinstalled program at the same time as android. How did you do that? I want one!!

Rooting is when you install support for the *NIX 'su' command. Computer owners expect to use their computers fully, as they should, and this is a general-purpose computer, just like a PC, or more accurately like a Linux box running a Java GUI. @blackicemagazine I got my case from ebay. I like it better than the $40 versions at B&N. Mine cost $19 delivered in 3 days. All leather with a magnetic clasp & SD holders. Many choices are available. They're all made for the NC's buttons, USB & speaker holes. I like how my NC slips into a snug leather frame, held much better than the clips on B&N versions which don't actually give me confidence in the long run or if dropped. Cases protect but let you prop up the NC for watching videos too.
