  • Now could I use this wifi to access the psn to play online for the playstation 3 ? Because for some odd reason the stock wifi-hotspot will not let me connect to the psn but it will let the playstation connect to the internet for browsing.

  • whats the point of rooting??

  • @MrEvilChickenTribute There really isnt one unless you plan on installing custom software. It's basically the same as jailbreaking. It voids your warranty and its not worth it in my opinion.

  • @spikeman23 it only voids the warranty as long as the software is on it, if you re-install the original software, you're still covered under the warranty

  • hey when i hit up arrow key then enter, instead of saying device not found and then giving me the directory, it says device offline. what do i do?

  • ok sorry to bother you. how do i know I have froyo 2.2? I got the phone and when I showed it to one of my friends he did the upgrade, then I took the battery out. I did not know whether it was installed or not. Can you help me? also what does Rooting have that stock does not? I mean other than unlocking the phone, what is the purpose. Gracias bro

  • @pacanasniu Go to settings>about phone>software information and it will tell you. And rooting your phone basically gives you administrator status, letting you do more stuff to your phone, run more applications, stuff like that.

  • Does this work on Froyo 2.2? sorry I just got my phone 3 days ago.

  • @pacanasniu no

  • @mejdam im trying to extend my battery life using this: (ROOT ONLY)

Charge your phone fully (don't just go by the orange light turning green check your battery under settings>about phone>>battery)

Reboot in Recovery and get adb shell running

Once you have adb shell (#) running type in the following commands:

    mount -a

    rm /data/system/batterystats.bin

i dont even know how find my adb shell plz help

  • @pacanasniu

Use UnRevoked3 to root your OTA 2.2

  • you talk to freakin fast. Slow the fuck down

  • This worked for the 2.1 update 1, however the OTA update to froyo (2.2) has disabled root from the looks of it. Any luck with 2.2?

  • in the command prompt, instead of device not found, im getting device offline. is this caused by the SD card? im using an 8gb sandisk class 2

  • @Spacewolf9017 @Spacewolf9017

I'm getting the same thing "error: device offline". When my phone had 2.1 I rooted it using this video, however the one thing that held me up was my SD Card was SandDisk. I went to Wal Mart and got a PNY Card and immediately it worked. Now I got 2.2 OTA, and I am getting device offline.

  • where is the zip file? cant find it

  • I did not have SDK in my directory of the phone. If you need, it - the latest version of it is available for all OS at developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

  • do you need a micro sd card to root?

  • Word of advice: Do not drink 10 red bulls before doing one of these videos...

  • This is the most garbage set of instructions I've ever had the displeasure of attempting to follow. IKEA furniture is easier to build than your unclear, step skipping, over assumptious rhetoric.

  • how do you do this on a mac :(

  • @aeemexnorae use sdk provided at developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

  • This is the "hardest to follow" set of (blurry) instructions I have ever seen! I've only had my Incredible for a week but gimme a break! Slow down and give clear (to see and understand) instructions.

  • @jblackfish I had no problem rooting with this guide...

  • Seriously, what the hell, do you need to be running windows 7 for this? I've tried this and a couple of others, including the one clicks, and none of it is working.

  • When I press recovery it just loops me back to fastboot.

  • I can not get this to work...The first link will not work in your notes

  • @rkjs25 the link works fine..

  • if you root your phone does anything bad happen? Like viruses hardware failure total phone death?

  • @blakeazimmerman Not sure about during the process, but you could screw up your phone after the fact by playing with certain things, like flashing new radios.

  • I can't get the little notification on windows "HTC Boot...." Other than that I get the everything before that message to work. What the hell I am doing wrong?

  • This doesn't work after I had to unroot the phone, :(

  • I tried many many times with a SanDisk 16GB MicroSD card, with no luck. I finally broke down and bought the PNY 2GB card from Walmart, and it worked like a charm. I had it rooted in a few minutes after I put the PNY card in.

  • i tried this but i cannnot find the sdk file in the very after the htc sync. Where do i find the sdk file to copy?

  • What are the advantages of rooting your incredible?

  • I loved the video, but I cannot replicate, due to not knowing where to find the ZIP file referenced in "Look in the notes..", at the very beginning. Where are the notes? Thanks much, mejdam; I am a new fan! I am just missing this vital information, about where to find the ZIP file, quite possibly included in some prior video.

  • hi,

i am looking for Android developer. i have chines Android tablets and i want some one to change few things on the tablet, i am prepare to pay you for your services but i really need some help from some one like you. your reply would be much appreciated. thanks.

  • not getting it to the 5:10 mark of directory found

  • I have this same problem... no matter what way I go about this, I have followed these instructions to the T and I can't get pass this point. PLEASE HELP!

  • Just wondering... I am still waiting for my back ordered Incredible. I have watched this video 100 times to be sure I do this correctly. When I successfully root my phone will i be able to update the phone when HTC releases froyo at the end of the year or will that negate everything I worked for? Should I wait for HTC to Release froyo before I attempt to root?

  • I love you man!!! I got everything to work in the first try. Sorry for all the crap I gave you. The root works great and know I am happy!

    Your method is really simple!

P.S. It helped that I got a new computer (Sony Vaio F Series Laptop)

  • How I just got mine to work, finally!

I tried this like a 100+ times over 3 days with every tip and trick i could find on the web and couldnt get the prompt after running "adb shell" and "loop.bat". I finally got it to work using the directions on a page at xda-developer forums titled "Finally got Root with 2gig card that came with phone"

(it wont let me post the link)

Took 4 tries and then it worked. I used the stock 2gb card that came with the phone. Good luck to all.

  • Great video and it did allow me to root on the 1st pass AFTER I got the PNY 2G card. One way to improve the video is to state that you need THAT brand of card. I tried it with a SanDisk 2G card for a few hours with no luck and if someone is watching this video from a cell phone browser, or some other limited feature browser, they might not get the recommendation that's in the tag.

MAKE SURE TO TRY THIS WITH A PNY 2G CARD. YOU CAN GET 'EM AT WAL-MART.

    Thanks Mejdam!

  • ugh, I keep getting no results after the loop.bat. this is getting aggravating!! >:{

  • You must be lucky man, because this does not work at all for my phone. I've done it for hours in both Windows and Linux. Pain in the ass!

  • @kt0wnhero whats the linux way?

  • Well, frustration has settled in... Over 15 tries for the adb shell loop on recovery and no luck. Using the recommended 2Gb Pny card from walmart too, what could be going wrong? Following instructions to the letter yet it doesn't seem to work, at all. After 15 futile tries well... heh

  • IT WORKS!! make sure you install HTC SYNC!! that was my main problem. Go on google and download HTC SYNC and do everything he says. I kept getting "no device found." then i realized that the problem after 3 days and installed htc sync. If you have questions, I can help if mejdam is too busy.

THX MEJDAM!!! YOU'RE AWESOME! I would suck your dick if i was gay

  • either this is a hoorible how to video or I'm missing a step every time cause I get into the loop step and nothing happens. Have done this several tries with same non result....anyone out there who knows the real way to do this it would be appreciated...

  • @imbombero did you install HTC sync? go on google and download it. the one in the folder he gave didn't work for me. if you were never asked to disable your security, you didn't install HTC sync yet.

  • I tried adb shell command and loop.bat but no luck. ill try the sd card hack. What kind on sd card do you recommend?

  • After i run the loop.bat part and it does its thing, the loop stops to this message

    C:\sdk\tools>adb shell

    * daemon not running. starting it now *

    Any Ideas?

And good luck to everyone trying this, such a pain.

  • @kiwipuff im in the same postion, i get "* daemon not running. starting it now *" and it just sits there

  • If anything goes wrong during the rooting process, or the phone gets stuck on a loop, how do i restore my phone to its original settings?Do i just pull the battery out and turn it on?

How Do i back up my phone to restore it later? Whats a NanDroid Backup?

  • @candymike4u Your phone should not get caught in a loop, if so, you can always recover, by re-seting to factory reset

  • Good afternoon, I had to unroot using your video and now I need to reroot using your video again, but now shell wont give me the missing directory again. I have tried 3 sd cards and to no avail, not working, suggestions?? I have used your video and it worked perfect the first time.

  • @duramaxster I'm having the same problem from the start. Mine wont find the connection to my phone when doing the loop.

  • Please help! Still not working. I don't understand when to remove the sd card, if at all, and should I close the htc sync & sdk sync, or just minimize them? I keep ending up with the black sceen and the red triangle over the phone. Thanks.

  • Also Im not getting the daemon tools when I run adb shell.... Maybe I need the exact files from the links that are not working.

  • hmmm... Never heard that but maybe thats why I can not get either way to work.

I was able to get the tools and just created my own loop.bat file.

  • Is it true that this is near impossible with sandisks?

  • Links are no longer working. I was able to download SDK Tools from another site but it does not contain the loop.bat or the commands.txt. Can someone please upload me the files or tell me where to get them.

  • i have a question rom manager is giving me problems saying your rom is not set up to recieve ota updates, please contact the rom developer??? any help there??????

  • Remember to keep the volume down and power keep, while pushing the card back in and hold them pressed until you get success.

  • Well, just like many others, I was about to give up. I finally switched to a 2gb card that was in my daughters phone, and tried the card trick mentioned on other posts. Basically have it looping, take the battery out, then back in, then power on with volume down and power button. Let it boot to the card, after the no file error pull the card out and hit the volume down and power key again, when you hear the first connection sound from the computer pop the card in, that's when I had success!

  • just watched vid and was able to root on first attempt with sd card that came with phone. once the phone is rooted can i change sd cards?

  • Watch the video once or twice before you try to root your phone. there is a popup text that states something about removing the video card. try that to get the "exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: no such file or directory message. make sure you want to do this it took me 5 hours of tries for it to work. now my phone reboots itself about 1x an hour. but i have a cool flashlight app(incredilight) and wifi tether im looking to reverse it...

    PhontekNC2

    HTC Dinc

  • what is the text in the text file lol I tard

  • yes it did work finally have to take to sdcard in and out when hitting the button recovery took me a few trys but it did work for me finally lol

  • @dr3w2008 Can you Explain that? Did you hold the Power button and VOL Down while taking the sd card in and out?

  • @Hitmanthe3rd no i did not hold the power button and volume button at the same time taking the sd card, what i did was when u reboot bck to recovery when u see it says incredible white screen u push the sdcard in and out until u see file not in directory it may take a couple of tries and its timing

  • Went out. Bought the 2gb SD form walmart. Have tried this MANY times. And cannot get past the loop.bat Part. I have done if step by step several times. Idk what im doing wrong lol.

  • Worked for me once I figured out what I did wrong, thank you!

  • Fail! No loop.bat file in the SDK directory

  • @bikerozzy Do not unzip the file; I had that problem too.

  • Comment removed

  • does this work on 2.1 firmware

  • @Alfalfanater Yes.

  • Wow, may I suggest decaf?

A suggestion would be perhaps a bullet point list at the start and leave the alternative method or a general "if it didn't work" section for the end with a note at the start saying "see troubleshooting at 8:00" or something. This would just make it that much more "user friendly".

Actually I was able to follow what you were saying but I guess I'm a geek

  • If people are having errors, it could come from the focus of the window. When watching a video, your browser will have focus, especially if you're pausing it. When it comes time to push the payload, ensure that your cmd box window has focus so that the Enter keypress goes to it and not the browser.

  • What a piece of cake. I watched the video, then followed along. I'm almost as fast as you are...

  • Thanks, it worked. Just used the SD Card pop-in and out.

  • FINALLY got it to work with my brand new DI with the SD card that came with it. I had to get the loop.bat running and then boot into recovery and as soon as I hit the button to boot into recovery, I started pushing the SD card in and out several times until it worked! I've also already got NAND done too! Thanks for the vids.

  • Do i need to install something on my sd card prior to performing this 10min process? Your first video is different so am i supposed to copy and paste the files to the sd card like your first video states? im lost bro, please help me.

  • @wrxsubaru02 forget my other videos and just follow this one

  • @mejdam I have and it is not connecting at all. I tried the loop and everything and it will not find it.

  • Good afternoon, I had to unroot using your video and now I need to reroot using your video again, but now shell wont give me the missing directory again. I have tried 3 sd cards and to no avail, not working, suggestions

  • mine wont connect no matter what i do... can you do a video with everything fresh either on a new computer or start over on yours? mine just wont do what your computer does on the loop or arrow up like you are saying.

  • great video.. you need to better explain your method of holding the power button and vol down.. you explained it great in the custom recovery... i had to take the sdcard out and put it in at 5.5 seconds and it worked..(i couldnt get it done the way you were doign) but i dotnt hink i was holding the buttons like you were doing. great tutorial!

    by the way.. MANUAL FOCUS!

  • You Rock!!!!!!!!!!!! took me a sec and a lot of pausing but you explain it crystal clear thank you!!!! SO WHAT DO I DO NOW THAT I HAVE ROOTED MY PHONE?

  • what happens when you do this?

  • Save yourselves a headache. GO to Walmart and buy the 2gb PNY microSD card for 10$. Start with a clean install. (If you have a Google account your contacts will be saved). Then follow the video step by step. WiFi tether is getting 1.22mb download / .52mb upload. Speedtest will show "Cellco Partnership as your ISP. That's Verizon's D/B/A.

  • will this erase info like photos or purchased apps on your phone?

  • @jlc02x It didn't for me.

  • will this erase any thing you already have on the android (i.e. pictures, videos, purchased apps, etc)?

  • @mejdam - great job man! i tried this about 50 times before i got it to work. i read some posts about popping the sd card in and out, and that's what did it for me.

if you're having trouble with device not found, try this: click on the fastboot like the video shows. start running loop.bat. then, pop out sd card and click to boot recovery. once you hear windows recognize the device, QUICKLY pop the sd card back in. timing is everything and it will take a bunch of tries.

  • and where is the "commands.txt" file?

  • Seems like you left a bunch of instructions out... Like where the "1.bat" file is or how to make it...

  • @simon81senger Don't unzip any files from the original downloaded folder, and it will be in the tools folder, which is in the sdk folder.

  • help please. stuck at adb shell. tried to reboot incredible several times and pressing volume down and power together but message continues to be device not found. any suggestions?

  • Worked great. 0 experience doing anything like this before and the directions were CRYSTAL clear. Thanks ! I wish there were more videos like this that could help me with root related stuff (changing my DI's boot animation is my recent adventure).

  • Do I have to start with a fresh install??? Should I press the wipe/clear button when am in recovery mode? I have tried every step and keep getting device not found

  • @rbh00723 I did not delete anything from my phone/card before doing this, so I assume its not necessary.

  • the sd card that was used, does it have to be in the phone or can a different card replace the one that was used to root?

  • the sd card that was used to do the rooting, can I switch out sd cards to a new card or does it have to be the same card in the phone at all times?

  • when I run adb shell for the first time it seems to hang on *deamon not running. staring it now* then nothing just sits there?

  • After hours of trying and trying and trying, I was finally able to get this to work. The only problem is, once I used this root method with these root files and rebooted, it didnt seem like it was a true root. The superuser tools app showed up, but WiFi tethering would not work and Titanium backup did not recognize my Incredible as rooted. I then re-rooted using the unrEVOked method and their files, and it worked! Tethering started working, and Titanium backup recognized it as a true root!

  • @TZimmerman1 this gives you root so you can run unrevoked method. If you hasn't ran my method you wouldn't be able to do the unrevoked.

  • @mejdam - Oh ok... this wasn't explained so I had no idea. By the way, I just successfully installed the unrEVOked recovery ClockworkMod. It was super easy; you should make a video for it!

  • @mejdam seriously???

  • @TZimmerman1 Save yourselves a headache.

  • dude ur full of shyt did every lil thing that u said to do doesnt work for shyt, trust me i kno how to root my droid is rooted

  • @NyStAtUs23 Worked for me...
