Superb sostenuto, and the G major section and climax is excellent, but I find the performance a bit heavy with rubato. Perhaps this is the performer giving weight to the phrases instead of repeating them, but the starting momentum gets a tiny bit bogged down as a result. The expression is still great however and Alkan's brilliance shines through and through. I particularly like the first bar of the recapitulation - the subtle harmonics really do come out.
Wow! Very captivating, even though I personally believe the repeats add to the balance. Thanks for the uploads! I was itching for some more Op. 35's. ;)
Interesting...It's a bit slower and "mellower" than I'd heard/imagined. Even though "posement" means "seriously", I'd always heard some sort of cavalry trot as the basis of the tempo. Also, I wonder why he doesn't take the repeats on pages 1-5. Tell us about this pianist!
@bchill69 Hello again. I suppose leaving out the repeats is a matter of artistic interpretation...
Mark is a young pianist from England who attended the Purcell School (a specialist Music college in England). I believe he is in his early 20s. He seems to be making a speciality of Alkan at the moment and is beginning to make his Mark (if you'll excuse the pun) on the concertising world. A great talent I believe. Hopefully we hear much more from him!

@TheWanderingNight Thanks for your enthusiastic comment!
I believe Mark is taking part in the inaugural Alkan-Zimmerman International Piano Competition next year. Fingers crossed for him.
