What's so impressive about this gesture was that it was not the kind of issues that pleases the mob. Basic rights often get described as "so called rights" by an ordinary mass, because liberty being slowly drained away is to abstract a concept for them to comprehend. Whereas "that bastard terrorist had a right to a lawyer, what's the world coming too!" is a much easier to understand appeal to the emotions. History will smile on David Davies for this gesture. And I'm a lifelong Socialist.
