I read the description. What traditional dressings did they showcase? I like blue cheese. Sorry, I couldn't resist. We ususally say clothing or, for a pow wow, regalia. Some Native Americans prefer the word outfit.
@Mjswifiy What in the world? What point was your teacher trying to make with this blatantly disrespectful comment? What part of the country do you live in?
I like the PIC @ 1:04.... 2 Indians looking at the Caucasian like WTH!!!! LMAO... jus playing, white people can come and embarrass themselves anytime.... your great entertainment...
If a military general in the U.S. military wears his uniform, do you call it a costume? No, it is the official dress code of that military. Does the Pope in the Vatican wear a "COSTUME", NO! It is the same with native culture, we dont wear "COSTUMES". we wear what is appropriate for our culture for dancing in the dance ring, to celebrate life in our own way. AHO!!!
Of course we all hate the way people come and stare and make comments, but the definition of the word costume includes what people daily dress is all over the world, not just as is commonly used like "halloween costume" or "costume for the stage". I have a background in Fashion and Costume, and it is an antique word almost in this sense, but it is correct. It is our modern misunderstanding of the word that's the problem. Still the rude jerks just don't get it, do they? We don't put on, we ARE.
