I think you're mistaken. Organized religion is all politics. For example, christianity used to believe the earth was the center of the universe. They accepted that it wasn't only when the evidence against it became overwhelming. Now most christians will agree that the earth does revolve around the sun. What this means is that christians had a policy change.
It's the same thing with everything else. Abortion, contraception, prayers-in-schools, whatever. All politics.
My observation, as an experiencer of God, and a seeker to keep that experience pure, is that the politics is in each us, an inherent part of our individual make-up. Politicizing our intuitions of God is a natural liability of our species. And it might be what dooms us. All religions survive despite themselves.
