  • I have the same starter kit and i threw that filter out, i couldn't sleep at night (my tank is in my bedroom) i got me a eheim 2215 ^_^ check out my videos tell me what Ya think, thnx

  • Aqua clear works great !

  • Yeah i have a quietflow 30 and a top fin 10 on my 20 gallon and the top fin 10 i completely quiet.

  • The top fin 10 is super quiet

  • I had bad luck with several diff brands of HOB filters. The one i found to be the best...Aqua Clear, im running 2 Aqua Clear 70's and they are dead silent!! They may looks a little cheap, but they are nice!!!

  • I am having the same problems, the store that i bought it from replaced it free of charge but the same thing is happening with the second filter. I am about to upgrade but idk which filter to get. I cant sleep with all this noise!

  • does anyone know how long is the top fin 60?

  • just got the 40 version, and try pushing on the u tube down hard(WITHOUT BREAKING IT!)

  • I got a filter with my fish tank and the cloudy water from sand can aparently jam it up.

So I took it off and irnsed it out, then plugged it in to make shure it worked.

It went BZZTZTZTZTZTZ then completely stopped. I poured in some water and it started gurgling but I cant try it in my fish tank. I figured it just jammed because there was no water, but Now I am paranoid I could have cracked the fan or something even if it works properly.....

    D:

  • @mzh3000 this filter is not reconmended with sand

  • @DaveTube24

Well we will be draining the tank and refilling it, it is coral sand. For aquariums.

  • @mzh3000 well it did say on the box that it is not reconmended

  • just noticed... it keeps it's prime

  • Having the same problem and its annoying, I just bought a cannister filter, fluval 305, my fish tank is so I can drink the water lol

  • Mine used to make that noise, but I just had to raise the water. Now it works fine and doesn't make any noise

  • Sounds like the ABS brake system on my Suburban. No offense because I have a Top Fin also, from a starter aquarium kit and it sounds like this.

  • ya it really sucks

  • @bassallyear19 i havnt got a single one to work right yet.

  • @jdogg6341 fill the water up, and add vaseline.

or you can break the impeller fins until you have 4 fins

marineland makes tetras who make top fin

  • @jdogg6341 you could customize it

  • it is sucking up air bubbles it's making

  • I have some rocks that are a weird type. could that cause this?? or is it just the filter. my rocks are clear and huge. about the size of my thumb.

  • can I have it?

  • I just wanted to add that it really IS that loud. Even one floor below the tank, in our finished basement, I can hear the humming. It's so annoying! I did all the same things that jdogg6341 did with maintenance and still nothing.

YouTube comments can be really annoying too, but in the case of consumer reviews, they can be very helpful. I wouldn't have bought it if I had seen this video and read all the bad reviews so "buyer beware". -Regards from Cape Cod

  • AGREED! I have one of these too and I still can't curb the noise! The only thing I have found to help even a little is to put a dish-towel on top of it but of course that looks terrible. I bought it new from a friend for $40, thought I was getting a good deal, but that's not a good price, especially for a filter that makes SO MUCH NOISE!! It definitely does the trick since I have it running in just a 10-gallon tank with fancy goldfish but still, I am disappointed with this filter. Don't buy it.

  • I know, the worst filter EVER !!

  • you could be suckin up airbubbles from the water splashing causing that noise. my feeder tank did that due to a airstone below it that i forgot about... moved the airstone and works quietly now!

  • cant you lower the flow?

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks, I'm glad I checked it out. I'm going with a Marineland filter.

  • same problem....so annoying!

  • less distance to the top of water makes an amazing difference in noise leveels, i run a top fin 20, and it makes that much noise with a big drop, but is almost silent when aquarium is at proper water levels

  • me to i upgraded to marineland penguin filter :p for 75 gallons! i over filter becuase i got some baby oscars im raising. the only thing i dont like about the penguin is sometimes the bio-wheel stops on me and does not work so besides that everything is great. the only filter that is as good as marineland filters is the external fluval filters or the aqueon filters.

  • Had same exact problem, every once and awhile mine would make an earsplitting grinding noise that was worse than the normal noise it made, I upgraded to a Penguin 350b just like you, Marineland's penguins are great filters, only brand I'll use now.

  • I dont use mine, i bought a diff one.

  • dude what happened to yours i just got a 30 gallon tank with the top fin 60 its sometimes goes gurgglefurrglle furggle and vibrates im worred theres a fish stuck inside or if theres anything wrong with it please i need answers

  • Ya, it sucks

  • @jdogg6341 is the marineland filter hard to setup
