I like how they give an injury report and say a possible broken leg like it's a sctratch and no big deal. I think Nascar lost its balls. Bill Elliott once said when you go 210+ mph it seperates the men from the boys
These were the real races because you did not know who won until the end of the 4th turn (at any track) or it was either you had the whole field a lap down, when they said dale earnhardt has 1 lap left to catch Davey it could be done. The most recent example "with 5 laps to go can Harvick get to Busch" they are basically trying to get your hopes up. you already know they almost lead everylap and the driver who u hate the most wins
That Ford horsepower came from maybe the best engine builder of the 70's & 80's Robert Yates. It was his engine that gave Petty his 200th win. Yates worked for Diegard Racing and Petty went to DiedGard and somehow got a sure win motor to get the 200th win in front of the President. And most of you call that coincidence. The engine never went through post inspection. It was oversized. Thats fact. Read it in Golenbocks book "Miracle"
davey was a legend...taken way to soon.. the only reason i watch today is because of him..cool...class...charisma....#28 havoline ford. what would the record books say if he was still alive, i often wonder
When Dale Earnhardt was asked about the restrictor plate and the possibility of a car flipping into the stands, killing fans, Earnhardt replied "build some bigger fences"....classic
Motor racing, but mainly NASCAR, has indeed had the guts sucked out of it. A young driver doesn't learn how to race responsibly if he constantly wrecks and never gets hurt. These guys either raced intelligently or got hurt (or killed).
"Ya'll should tie a kerosene rag around each ankle so the ants won't crawl up there and eat your candy ass!"
Earnhardt's quote (SpeedWeeks 2000) is applicable in so many places.
1:17... "Ken Ragan has a possible broken leg... other than that he's just fine."
Hahaha. These days, a broken leg in a crash would be HUGE news! Those guys were tough back then... riding around at 210 mph in 3500lb aluminum cans. Nowadays, a driver fractures his foot playing frisbee, and it makes headlines.
207.90 MPH! Man those yates Fords were rockets back then....god i miss Davey and Dale. Davey is the reason i watch Nascar today. Just a class act like the rest of his family
Man I would love for them to be able to get rid of the plates, but with the cars they have today, they would never be able to keep them on the ground.
That Thunderbird was fast that day, I remember watchin' this on tv live. The best I can remember I think this was the race where his Dad Bobby tore the fence down.
@BSNFabricating Well you can blame the plate at Daytona and Talladega starting with the 1988 Daytona 500 race. Now with all the universal spec series COT cars shaped the same, the draft is kaput at the longer, non-plate tracks and the field spreads out a couple of laps after the green flag flies. Moving up more then a spot or two in the top 10 during a green flag segment is a miracle. Watch the Aussie V-8 Super Cars if you want to see REAL racing. T
You are absolutely right about the V8 Super Car's. Best series in the world. None of the contrived racing you see here in NASCAR. Great comment. I never thought I'd see anyone here in the States think like that!
@BSNFabricating I think with the cars today, even without the restrictor plate they wouldn't be able to get a jump like this for long. Honestly though I still think NASCAR is great, been watching for a very long time and it still excites me just as much as ever. I can't wait to see the Mustangs and Challengers come to Cup in 2013!! They're getting rid of the cookie cutter bodies.
Ford had so much of a better shape of a car. Chevy was a box that year. I was at that race. Its the same race Bobby (davey's dad) took down the fence. My bus driver was cut below the eye from debris that went in the stand. Another 20 yards and the flag man would have been killed.
To bad Ford don't have NASCAR in their hip pocket like chevy. Still that way today. This COT or today is still a JJohnson dream machine.Ever notice how JJ is always good right out of the hauler while others have to constantly adjust their cars to get better???
Theres alot more to it than just CHAD, and Rick Hendrick is a crook pardened by Bill Clinton. This crap NASCAR feeds us just makes me miss the great Davey Allison that much more!
i was a kid then but i wish nascar racin now was like it was then. If u had the faster car like davey did u jumped out to a 10 car legth lead n u just put a wappin on everyone else.
Starting at that moment, Davey was the only one who could beat Dale Sr. on a regular basis. Dale Sr. said it himself... if he'd have lived, Davey would have beat him out for 2 or 3 of his championships. Oh what might've been...
At least the car of tomorrow allows for racing like this and with the cars turning more RPM, they sound like this too. The roar of the cars is the biggest thrill.
this year they might sound somewhat similar because theyre using a much more open plate that will allow around 8500RPM which was the unrestricted motors were spinning then (in 2003 the non-plate motors were doing 10000rpms before nascar made a gear rule they now do 9300-9400 max)
but the racing will never be as awesome as the non-plate and old school cars and drivers

@bandit269u because of restrictor plates... the cars of today probably could go 235 MPH in the draft without them.

If Davey (or anybody) got a jump like that on the field in a plate race now, he'd end up 20th...everybody would line up and charge right past him.
It was REAL racing...none of this bump-drafting, aeropush, lucky dog, Chase for the championship crap...what happened???
BSNFabricating 2 years ago 15
Brian France, he took over NASCAR in 2001, and that was when it went to shit.

They dummed down the racing. No overdrive shifting at Pocono, NASCAR limit of one or two rear end ratios to choose from, the terrible COT car.
