  • 5:46 thats what i was waitin for!

  • thank you for the info ...good stuff

  • "you wanna top it off with the octave" :D

  • fuck i cant do it even after 5 years

  • @beastfingerskate ive been playing self taught for 4 years and i devoted a week to playing a simple 3 string sweep and now 2 months later i can sweep almost any chord it just takes alot of patience its like learning guitar all over just start basic and you will get it

  • Great lessen Dean,

And to all of you who want tabs If you don't understand all the notes or music phrases you need to study up big time!

  • literally THE best lesson I've seen. You obviously know your stuff. Learned more in this lesson than I did in the past few weeks.

BTW: Your hair matches your skills :D awesome

  • what are the tabs for that last sweep

  • is that metronome a bomb?

  • do you have a chart or tabs for this lesson its very nice just got into sweep i can only do a 3 string and a 5 string sweep but you have a larger variety thanks

  • i was using that exact same guitar xD

  • thats a sweet pickgaurd

  • ive the same guitar, its awesome, and not that expensive, ibanez rule

  • @rtb2701 i dont know too much about guitar, but i want to buy one.i see one Yamaha guitar with amps, stand, carrying case, its about 200 euro.can u give me some idea about this?

  • Dean Dimarzio? Yo I was hanging out with your cousin Jackson Marshall! lol jk good lesson.

  • he good!

check out my guitar playing ;) rate n comment

  • i hate lessons without any tabs!!

Nice lesson but please, please, just leave a link with the tab

  • Thanks much for the lesson. Btw, there is another type of chord called augmented, but I can count on one hand the amount of times I've heard that on guitar.

  • the metronome sounds like a bomb is about to go off lol

  • Dean DiMarzio? give me a break XD!!!!!!!!!

  • Gr8 to listen norwegian band called Winds, lots of theese stuff and other :)

  • what guitar is that

  • the bomb is going to explode!!!

  • Good lesson, you're playing arpeggios by staying true to the form. Majority of the "arpeggio" lessons I see aren't arpeggios at all. Guys are teaching sweep picked scales that contain the notes of an arpeggio but rely on broad finger reaches so yes the notes are there, yes they are sweeping or raking but the ascension is in truth a scale.

Chords are to scales as they are to arpeggios and vice versa in every variance of relation. The active structure of each is how we know one from the other.

  • wow! ur good, :))

  • Four types of triads...major, minor, diminished, augmented...just in the major scale. Otherwise, really good stuff!

  • GIEF TABS !

  • that's not a metronome, it's a bomb!

  • Nice lesson man.I put on my favorites. And you´re cute by the way lol

  • How do you determine weather those notes in D major are Major or Minor or diminished sweeps?

  • Keep it up with ur help ur going ta make me shred bro!

  • your names too close to dimarzio lol.

  • do you only have one eye?!!!! :D good though lol

  • can someone just explain me root notes?how do u know a root note for a chord?if someone can just give me a website or explain me I would apreciate it,thanks

  • @ptpetrov if your chord is E. the root it E. If your chord is A, the root is A. If the chord is your mom's vagina, the root is. YOUR MOMS VAGINA.

    Question?

  • @HitaroX omg lmfao

  • Thanks for the lesson, we gotta do something about that hair though, its looks Jonas Bro Emo. Keep Rockin'

  • @MrCrypticStench lol jonas fags aren't emo. although emos are fags.

  • @HitaroX whats wrong with emo's and why does his long hair make him an emo you dont know him do you?

  • Comment removed

  • asshole..... you didn't have to make it looks so easy... : (

  • how much is ur metranome?

  • Comment removed

  • the 6 string sweep at the end kinda sounds like the intro to alaska

  • how did you learn how to ply guitar your awsome

  • do you have the lesson for the halo cover?

  • This might sound a little gay but dude you have a very soothing voice. You should consider doing radio or voice/tv/movie acting :D

you are also freakin' amazing at guitar keep it up :P

  • you sweep really weird it looks like when you pick the note imo

  • so these arpeggios, they're the same shapes, a d minor will be the same as an e minor, just in a different position, am i right? thanks.

  • hi with the d major scale how do you know which ones should be minors and majors?

  • says the guy who cant stay on time in his own video's

  • U Suck..! no im not jealous

  • Why does he suck?

  • lol no wonder I can't do it some Metal %&*# Told me it just strum, I didn't know this way - Back to the lab.

  • it is a strum you follow the strum with your fingers.... dont expect to get it it took me like 6 months to have them fluent

  • I can't Shred Minor Barre Arpeggios how the hell do you do that? any tips...

  • @PainlessTragedy locking yourself in your room for a couple days and do nothing but lol. heavy practice is the only thing i've ever seen to help with sweep picking technique wise at least. one thing that helps me though is practicing a variety of arpeggios and coming back to what you have trouble with regularly.

  • jaja fucking emo

  • @HeavyMetalWarrior93 aweonao culiao

  • You say theres 3 main types of triad - major, minor and diminished. Well, remember there are 4 main types of triad - you left out augmented. Sure, it's not in the major scale, but it's very important in other scale types, like melodic minor and harmonic minor!

  • @MerleneFlores

yeah, i'm always looking to 'improbe' my skills!

  • @bassmantomas haha

  • Good concise lesson, you spoke very clearly, excellent job !

  • Good lesson for beginners for sure dude!

  • murdock from the gorillas teaches great arpeggios!

  • Cool vid, check my lesson on sweeps out...

  • id be laughing if u wer the guy who actually made dimarzio pickups!!

  • great lesson, this helped me alot, my sweeps have gotten alot better

  • Damn man... I have the same guitar as you.. but you can play it alot better... :(

    hahaha :P

  • *uck you *ucking metronom :D

  • your last name is cool!

  • naw ibanez jem 777 ftw

  • thats because your lame

  • Nice lesson man! I give you a 5.

One "OT" question, does your guitar rg350dx(if I'm not mistaken) has a good stock bridge? I mean does stay in tune when you use the tremolo? I'm planning on getting the same guitar.

  • The bridge is great. I've had the guitar for 5 years, never had any tuning trouble.

  • Are you family of Larry Dimarzio?

  • If you get it, buy new pickups, cause from what I know they suck, no ofence intended.

  • @xtoperchris vibrato, not tremolo

  • hey man, great lesson! but i got a question:

when you sweep the notes, you don't hear the distortion of the previous string you picked. When i do those arpeggios the distortion ruins my sound, any tips for it?

  • after you hit the note your supposed to release it and when you do you mute it with the released finger. you have obviously already tried that so either palm mute the strings or you can tie a sock or bandana around the neck so it mutes all unwanted notes. tie it to were it is just a little aver the first fret.

  • oh well i'm definatly gonna try that :D

thanx man, i'll work on it ^^

  • For the 6 string A minor sweep I like going across the low E to the 12th fret A minor arpeggio.

  • thanks

  • Thanks SO much! This video helped a lot, you can check out my sweeped version of Get Out of My Yard on my channel!

  • yea if you dont like tone.

  • My favorite electric guitars are '60s neck Les Pauls with DiMarzio Super Distortion/ Breed pups. A nice FAT sound for rock/metal. But it's all personal preference. If you want to play an ESP or whatever. cool-rock on!

  • duh! chops are those big hairy things on the side of your face! not your mom's thighs... i mean like the things elvis had on his cheeks (besides pimples and coke...)

  • It's just a saying for your guitar playing. Like if I say "You got some chops man." I basically mean that you're a good guitar player and you know your instrument. Atleast that's how I've always heard it used.

  • I'm not really a metal player, more alternative rock and funk and jazz type stuff so I'm a Fender man. I would like to get an Ibanez or an ESP to play metal on though. I'm not really looking to be a "metal player" but I think it's good for guitar playing. Playing metal works your hands out and gets your chops up.

  • I don't know why you guys are arguing about ESP's and Gibsons. Fenders beat both of them haha. It's all personal preference. Personally I like Fender Guitars, but I'm also down with Gibsons, Ibanez, and I kind of like ESP's. Stephen Carpenter plays them so if they're good enough for him, they're good enough for me I figure. It's all personal preference.

  • trim your nails homie

  • i go with ibanez, esp, bc rich,or dean cant stand fender or gibson

  • You can stand B.C. Rich but not Fender or Gibson? Wow.

  • @topher4u2b Schecter^_^

  • Can you post some Maj 9 Arpeggios, it would help me a lot.

  • nice lesson, actually one of the best i've seen so far.

    keep up the good work.

  • nice guitar man and nice lesson!!!

now i´m gonna buy the same guitar

  • Nothing beats a Fender man, or a ESP

    Sounds so melodic...

  • My Vigier Excallibur is, in my own opinion of course, the greatest instrument available. Costs the same as a really good fender, but it's essentially hand built by 1 of 11 guys. They only make about 200 a year!

By the way, there are 4 basic triads, not 3. Major, minor, diminished and augmented.

  • agree with fender not esp

  • Nothing but Ibanez and every other guitar out there really, Fender is terrible, the Strat is the only decent one. ESP's are amazing though.

  • WTF??

    no way mann

  • Yea way man, Fender is terrible..Exceptions for the Strat, Ibanez, ESP, Dean...they all have the guitar battle won hands down.

  • Is a taste cuestion...

    nobody talking about telecasters...

  • Either way, if I have the choice, and I do. I will NEVER play on a Fender, or Epiphone. It's like with Marshall amps, you are paying for a name, not a guitar most of the time.

  • ESP;s are just cheap rip off's of Gibson's guitar's...

  • and that's way metallica plays with ESPs... xd

  • that's nothing to 'xd' about, you Troll

you see, Metallica DOES play ESP's, but they play Gibson's just as much, so get your shit streight!

  • Spell straight right, moron. While ESP did base the Eclipse off the LP, the Viper off the SG and the whatever model off the Firebird, they are all uniquely ESP, not at all close to Gibson. I mean, have you ever played an Eclipse and compared it to a LP? Big difference.

  • First off, that is a totally oppinion based perspective. Also, ESP stole the "Flying V" too. And do know what else they ripped off Gibson?? Let me name a few of the REVOLOUTIONARY Gibson Inventions... 1).The Tune-O-Matic Bridge 2), The Stop Bar 3). The Humbucker(ya, Gibson invented that) 4) The 24 3/4 scale Neck 5). the headstock shape 6). The Angled Headstock 7). the 3 way Selector Switch 8). The 'Quick Snap" Electronic Wires
  • (If i am not mistaken)

9). 3 Way Pick Up Wiring

10). The Gibson Nut (not sure of the technicle name, but you know, its diffrent from the Fender, which is actually inserted into the fingerboard)

    (and More!)

    You see?

    What has ESP invented??

    Nothing, thats what!

They just use Gibson's Innovations to further their 'sucess'

  • Except, they aren't rip offs like Epiphone was. ESP are mostly made specifically for metal and shred, like I said, you really need to play both to compare them. Gibson's quality has declined awhile ago, if you look at any of the new stuff they've come up with, the Robot guitar, that shitty ass Darkfire or whatever it's called, they are all gimmicks. Gibson's CEO today is a shit head.

I don't prefer either, I never said I did. I like Michael Kelly, Godin, Taylor etc.

  • Now, also, i admit, there is a big diffrence between the ESP's and Gibson's, BUT you have to consider that NOT EVERYONE Has the sama tastes as YOU! Sure, you think ESP is better, I(and millions other's) do not.

Gibson will always be #1 in quality, innovation, and Product!!!!

Sure, ESP is a good guitar for Metal, but thats it. Gibson is for Metal and everything else.

  • nothing beats a les paul

  • les paul sucks. overrated over priced. RG's are better.

  • Rg550, I would kill to have one.

  • @metal4life160 You get what you pay for.

  • Except almost any guitar ever made.

  • i LOVE THOSE iBANEZ RG350DXWH guitars. I have a white Washburn MG94 that looks darn near identical to this guitar.

  • haha we have the same guitar

  • 3:28-3:43 sounds like an awesome riff from a song.

  • wasnt this guy in school of rock?!

  • Yeh i've been wondering!! The dude looked the same when he was a kid :)

  • Tbh he kinds of reminds one of the guys in JB. rofl.

  • Except the Jonas Brother's couldn't dream of playing that...

  • Really? What about him reminds you of those idiots? The fact that he can actually play the guitar while they can't play a damn thing, or the fact that he looks nothing like anybody from that fag circus?

  • Same style. This guy is so much superior music wise than them, though.

  • @nkalajackass seriously though...isn't he?

  • your picking all the notes, until you do the last one thats when you did the sweep perfectly, but overall you did keep it clean!!! : )

  • Comment removed

  • sounded fine to me....

  • para de comer tanta mierda! Lo iso perfecto!

  • Awesome lesson, and cool guitar!

  • manos de niña jaja

  • Ibanez RG350DX

  • Wats the purpose of an arpeggio?

  • playing each note of a chord separately in a fast sequency

  • to sound cool

  • i'm in love with you.

  • It's an ibanez rg series

  • I have an RG series, they are fucking amazing,

  • what kind of guitar is that

  • guitar awesome!!!

  • some kind of ibanez haha

  • it's an ibanez RG370dx Indonesian made, mid range, i have one.... with me right now.. :P

  • lucky, i have the RG320dx.......wish i had yours.......

  • Ibanez

  • Ibanez RG350DX

  • can you do alternate sweep picking in the glass prison by dream theater?

  • It's not sweep picking if it's alternate.

  • For some reason his sweep practice chord progression makes me think of Christmas music.

  • ;ajs;dlfkj;alskdjf thank you! i've been looking for a good lil arpeggio to get my sweeps up to par and i gotta learn that one at the end it sounds SWEEEEEET!

  • the only real sweep i saw in this was the 6 string one at the end and only when you did it fast the other ones were plucking more than sweeping... probably because you going really slow though

  • Go to 3:49.. Did his voice crack?? x]

  • and? ur voice never "cracks"... how cool u are

  • ahhahah funny crack

  • Long nails aren't encouraged for your fretting hand. One, they scrape on the fretboard. It's uncomfortable and more difficult to access the strings better. Two, you place your fingertip on the fret, not your fingernail.

  • JOELS RIGHT.

  • nice lesson dude, you're pretty good

  • ....... do you have downs?

or are you just wicked dumb.....

  • dude.... a shadow?

    no way....

    way....

  • everybody get over his fucking nails you are like little girls

  • Dude your lesson is very helpfull but you shoud cut your nails on your left hand!

  • he needs them to play classical guitar

  • As far as i know, by been a classical guitar player for 2 years now, you definably dont need nails on your LEFT (fretting) hand... butt only on your RIGHT !

Sorry butt this is my opinion.:-P

  • no... he needs them long on his picking hand... the right one. not the left one.... he's dislexic. andi cant spell.

  • lol i hate having long nails when ever i do some tapping riff my nails get shortened in one area and looks like nasty lol

  • the picking is actually suppose to be more like a strum then picking each note

  • That very last one sounded like what Vai used in Crossroads am I right?

  • want 2 b friends? i like u! ur cool. id rlly like 2 b ur friend.

  • r u emo?

  • Learn what the word means, and understand the differences between this kickass guy and an emo
