I saw them at the Uttown in Philly too! I think it was 1968 and I ws 16 years old. Just cutting my teeth on solo work with the saxophone. Kool and the Gang along with James Brown's band set the standard for tight horn play in a dance band at the time. The group I played with patterned themselves after Kool and the Gang. Originally they had no vocalist so they were the model for an instrumental funk band. In fact my first on stage solo was done on this song. Memories!
ah yes...remember practicing this in the auditorium at fitch at lunch...those were the days...got a big crowd back then...just 3 horns...i think it was wayne's fladapping that turned on the ladies!!!
