You're so lucky! I'm a freshman in college right now, and I'm planning on applying to the EATM program after I get my bachelor's degree. I've wanted to be a zookeeper my entire life, and I can't wait to go to Moorpark! How are students accepted into the program?
I am interested in the program. I was wondering if there is a lot of animal contact, or do you just rotate a lot of the animals out into a lockout and then do what you have to do in there cage. Like is a lot of hands off, or is there a lot of actual animal interaction?
Can you help me? I would like to apply there and go right fter i graduate from high school but it say that the five prerequisites need to be completed at an accredited college... Do online colleges work? Do you know of any ways to get those five prerequisites before I graduate hs?
I'm thinking about applying to moorpark eatm program once i get my bachelors! i intern at an aquarium on long island and train seals, japanese snow monkeys and african spur thigh tortoises...do you have any advice about the program? did you get a training job yet if you've graduated?..i hear it's a very difficult program to be in...is ithat true?
@retardedkids102 Wow sounds like you have some great training expererience already! My only advice would be to be ready to give all your attention to the program. I went to the zoo every single day and didn't take any off because I loved being there. Just give those 2 years all of your attention because, trust me, they go by way too fast. It is a very difficult program because it is so demanding. But it's absolutely worth it.
@retardedkids102 I graduated this past June and now I work for Birds and Animals Unlimited, one of the biggest animal training studio companies in the world. I'm currently working at the Universal Studios Hollywood Animal Actors show and I love it!
@schadenfreude713 i just saw the Animal Actors show at Universal in March and thought it was pretty awesome! i also dream of going through the EATM Program at Moorpark after my bachelors! =]
im 17 rite now and thinking of doing this program. what exactly are the requirements to do this? and just wondering how far is it away from disneyland so i could see how far it is away from me.
Do you know of any ways I can find apartments/rooms for rent in Moorpark? I am using all the normal apartment search websites and only finding places that dont go any cheaper than $1,000/month for a studio/one bedroom :S
Did you have to learn all her signals before taking care of her or all most of the animals signals similar?
Lol, and I guess I will jump on the band wagon and proclaim my want to be in the EATM program. I am applying in January and if I don't get in to the program right away I am still moving to Moorpark next summer to settle in and prepare for the program (maybe take some classes at the community college.)
Yes, I did have to learn all her behaviors. I observed a bunch of training sessions with my 2nd years before getting to feed her myself. Then they watched me work her before they left for the week.
Good luck with your application! I didn't get in my first try so I moved out to Moorpark and took a bunch of the classes. It really helped me once I was in the program.
I bet! That's why I am totally ok if i don't get in, less classes to take once my soul is taken ^_^ I actually would prefer taking the classes first but i don't want to push my luck and not get in when i apply and wait ANOTHER year.
Wow- you're really lucky! I hope to go there in a few years but am still trying to figure out the pre-requisite stuff since I want to go there as soon as I finish High School (and not wait a year, @.@) Is it fun?
It's amazing. I couldn't be luckier. I sometimes can't believe that I get to do what I love every day.
We have one person in my first year class who was 17 when he entered the program (and he just turned 18 last month). He did duel enrollment in his high school and in a local community college to get the prereqs done.
It wasn't so bad to do some regular college first though. I didn't get into EATM on my first try so I did regular college first. But whatever works for you!
Yup, it's a great book and mostly true. There are some parts where she dramatized an event to make it more exciting, but I'd say it's 95% accurate. I really like it, especially now that I know exactly what animal or place she's talking about!

As soon as you get into the program a bunch of emails go out about people needing roommates or rooms that are open.
When were you planning on moving out? Cuz I do know of some rooms that are open now. PM me if you're interested.
