  • The big bald guy had a nice standing caber toss. Looks like a fun top notch event.

  • im rekon im a scot and im live in new zealand and im right into my clan mclean stuff and yes i do rekon i am a scot

  • Having scottish parents, does not make you a scot, niether does being born in scotland. To be scottish you must have been raised in scotland and grown up in scotland. This allows scotland to shape and build your personality and character. To be scottish you must have been assimilated by scottish- people, culture, community, dialect, philosophy, inward and outward perceptions, worldview, community, politics, ideology etc.

  • Which part of Scotland? Highlands? Lowlands? Do you speak Gaelic? Doric? Scots? Do you favor Scotland once again being independent from England?

On the other hand, I do agree that much "Scottish Culture" is rather a fabrication that plays well to the Americans and Canadians.

Still, my Gran was a Scot who died too you for me to remember her, but God willing I shall return to live and work. Funny thing is that most of the Scots that I tell that too ask me "Why? You're an American."

  • Why do you judge us? I don't pretend to be anything for an identity. I am who I am. I am a scot. You have admitted you are Irish. Why do you deny me my identity as a Scot.WE are not pretenders.I am now going to step away from you,as ye make no sense, and if ye were true Scots, would know and welcome yr own. God rest Joe Kilna McKenzie, who did know his own. God help the Scottish cause for independence, because with this division, how can we help you.

  • "Say your ancestors crossed the pond 200-250 years ago. Would you still be proud of your Scottish heritage"

My father is irish born and bred. I dont not dress up as a leprachaun and drink green beer every st pats day.

Most people in scotland and england have ancestors from both countries. we dont need to pretend to be something else for an identity.

that is a uniquely american phenomenon

  • I have had many friends travel to america and canada; while they loved both countries, they were really pissed at the scottish wannnabes declaring preposterous staements of scottishness. All because of some obscure ancestor.

  • I've traced my ancestors back to four Scottish clans. Mayhaps you are jealous because we celebrate our heritage without reserve. The band playing here are from Glasgow and they are friends of mine. As is Romilly Squire. We would welcome you too. Try not to judge us, Scots have had enough of that.

  • 'celebrating your heritage' is just an excuse to dress up as scotsman and masquerade as a scot a couple of times a year.

It is a uniquely american/canadian phenomenon

  • Say your ancestors crossed the pond 200-250 years ago. Would you still be proud of your Scottish heritage? Would you celebrate it? We would. The only difference between us is your ancestors stayed in Scotland and mine did not. I am Scottish. Nothing you can say can take that away from me. Many of us hold clan memberships. We have chieftains that come from Scotland for the Highland Games and march in our parades. We have highland dancing, pipe bands and competitions, highland athletics, etc.

  • THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS SCOTTISH CLANS.

The scottish clan system is dead and has been for over two centuries. Clans nowdays are nothing more than clubs for americans with scottish last names. You are just conforming to every stereotype of scottishness. You have no clue who the scots are, what we are, how we perceive ourselves etc.

all you can do is cling to outdated and extinct relics of the past.

  • I'd love to know who you are, how you percieve yourselves, and how I can help you to get out of the rut your in. Why do people come over here in clan tartans, say they are cheftains, of this clan or that, pretend importance.I am a Scot...you want to know why? Cos I live and breathe independently..I don't let anybody tell me what to do or who I am. Nor will I EVER let you tell me who I am.I am a Scot because I am FREE. Sorry for you if you're not. I don't have time for this crap.

  • Only these attribute make you scottish. You share none of these because you are canadian. I dont doubt your scottish heritage. But I do refuse to acknowledge that you are a scot.

  • I am so glad I don't need your acknowledgement to be a Scot. I've tried to avoid this, but Piss Off! I don't have time for the likes of you.

  • Supposedly you are 21. I can't see a 21 year old being so closed minded. Afraid of showing a picture? Living in fear? So boisterous, yet you don't have the wisdom of the world. That explains it all.

  • @ncpoliticosrock You are a disgrace to all people from scottish decent. You don't know what the fuck you are arguing about. Have you ever been to Scotland? I probably doubt it. The only reason i haven't is because I am 14 years old and I probably Know more Scottish History than you. If you want to keep your heritage alive you have to do more than wear a kilt and keep up with the news over there. You have to learn the culture and embrace it, not just walk around in your clans kilt saying

  • @ncpoliticosrock " I am 100% scottish" even though your not. If you are Born outside of scotland like me. You can not be a scot. Even if both your parents were scottish. You would still grow up in American culture. And unlike you i plan on moving to Scotland and embrace said culture. Good day, I SAID GOOD-DAY SIR!

  • Your Scottish clan system is dead. Can I have a bagpipe solo to commemorate it? We are alive and kickin, when you wnt to find your heritage again, look to us, we've kept it alive for you.

  • You are not scottish, you have no clue what scottish heritage is. I live it everyday of my life.

You are a foreigner thousands of miles away and your only perception of scottish culture and heritage is a false one. Your perceptions ar full of stereotypes, myths and completely inaccurate pictures of scotland.

"I am a Scot because I am FREE."

That is the cheesiest thing I hav e heard. Typical over the top american sentimentality that makes me cringe.

  • You want some whine with your cheese? You don't know me. You are probably a stubborn old bitter man. We have the internet now. We can read Scottish news, keep up with the freedom movement, chat with people. Did you read what I wrote? I know people from Glasgow?Wow! I am glad I am not as judgemental as you. I won't be wastin my time replying to you anymore.

  • "We can read Scottish news"

Thats an example of estranged and ignorant you are on every aspect of scotland. all you can do is trawl through scottishnews sites. Thanks for proving my point

"keep up with the freedom movement"

THere is no 'freedom movement', If you are refering to scottish independance then there is the scottish nationalist party.

again thank you for proving my point.

    TWAT

  • @kingdomofdalriada I was born American with Scottish heritage blah blah. I wear a kilt and play bagpipes. But the "I am a Scot Because I am FREE" yeah that was probably the cheesiest/stupidist thing i have ever heard. I may have been born in america but all my life i was surrounded by scottish culture. Since i live in North Carolina. The state with the most scots living in it (and people decending from scots) but yet i still have many things to learn and don't consider my self 100% scottish.

  • @kingdomofdalriada because i am only 50% and i was not born/raised there. But in 4 years i am moving to scotland. And in a year and a half i am visiting there. But I would never call myself Scottish (unless it is reffering to my heritage) because i was not born/raised there. Also "We have the Internet we can read Scottish news, keep up with freedom movement etc... I know people from Glasgow" yeah I read scottish news and i keep up with SNP not the bloody Freedom movement. And my Bagpipe teacher

  • @kingdomofdalriada is from outside of Glasgow. And i know a few people from Edinburgh, Inverness, and Campbeltown. I do research on my family tree and learned i was from Clan Campbell, Clan Farquharson, and Clan Davidson That twat ncpoliticosrock probably doesn't know what Clan he even decends from. I watch BBC and like British shows but who doesn't. Just because you watch news etc... doesn't make you 100% scottish. And i aknowledge that and so do alot of scots-americans and scots-canadians

  • @kingdomofdalriada But that twat ncpoliticosrock is spewing nonsense. I have read about 6 history books on scotland and about 3 on Great Britain. The only History he learned is from watching Braveheart which is innacurate. So do not even argue with him, it is like argueing with a mentally retarded child

  • People wearing kilts and talking in americans accents is just wierd, thats like a japanese guy wearing lederhosen

  • That is like saying a people wearing levis and speaking in scotttish accent is weird.

  • Great video; thanks for posting it.

  • aye fair do's to you guys but you're missin the massed pipes and heelan dancin....great track by a great scottish band.

  • where is the dancing!? There's not even a glimpse of it.

  • Fair play to the Scottish Americans over there for organising this kind of thing. Narrow-minded folk laugh at their apparent 'OTT' version of Highland Scottishness'...but as a Highland Scotsman still living in the Highlands - well done guys.

  • I love the song!!! What's it called??

  • Not bad but a somewhat myopic view of the games. There is so much more to see. And no highland dancing, no massed bands or the presenting of the clans?
