I looked at some EPDM rubber for roofing at Menards and some shower pan liner that appears to be about 3/64" thick. Is the shower pan liner about the correct thickness for between the cell plates or what is the perfect gap and best material for the gaskets?
the holes that are staggered was why my dry cells had amperage drop at the back of the cell. now i use the 3/8 centered hole on top and 1/4 inch center hole at bottom.. the multiple relay idea was a bust for me as well! ok if all are on turn one off and the cell does wierd things. i had one plate get hot and start to smoke the gaskets!!!.
your point on wireing up several seperat cells in your brick so they can be selectivly activated is a great idea, i have bin thinking along thoughs lines myself.
i thought maybe i'd do a cell with 6 newtral and have relays be able to chaing some nutrals to bruit force 12v just to heat the brick up, and then a temp sencor cut the relays out, and after it gets too cold they kick in again!
Wiring the hot plates with switches works very well. I can lower the current draw as needed and lower the temp of the unit as needed. The trade off is that the efficiency drops off when one or more of the cells is turned off. There is quite a bit of voltage/current loss to the dormant cells.
I spent a hole bunch of time trying to figure out how to wire a duel configuration set-up. I finally decided that you would have to put a relay on every single plate in the generator. Continues...
Continued: If not then current would travel through any wires that are ganged together. I finally decided that it wasn't worth the effort. Maybe you can come up with a simple solution.
My Goal is to have a cell that is so efficient that it needs to be heated not cooled (I will show this in a later vid.) I don't think that the speed of the electrolyte can possibly effect the flow of current considering that electricity travels near the speed of light through water.
Who knows what effect the bubbles on the plates have? ZeroFF and RadGenH2O have used electrolyte pumps and it didn't seem to change the efficiency except for the current wasted to run the pumps.
On my cnfiguration I have 1/2 holes top and bottom of the plates. I then have input/ output through the plastic alligned with these holes. There is some massive circulation with the electrolyte res. I wonder if this helps dislodge bubbles from the plates, keep cell cool. in my 16 plate 6X6" cell I get about 4.6mmw which isn't that great but I am moving to 1/16" gaskets inste of 1/8 to see how this will do. Is it widely belived that having this many holes reduces effiiciency? cont....
heck, I dont want to start any arguments over gaskets ... I am always looking for a better way ... but I have played with quite a number of variations and keep coming back maximize the exposed surface area of steel ...
you are on the right track with powering your large plates ... its a good idea to power them at multiple points ... I have tried alternating the lower holes and that bought me nothing ... but please prove me wrong ... would love for that to work ...
The EBN guys say that "elaborate" gaskets are unnecessary. We disagree. By shaping the gaskets so that the cell "Self-Pumps", we increased MMW effeciency by 2 whole points. Shaped gaskets DO work. See our website for a draft at the bottom left corner on our shaped gaskets. We have altered this design slightly to 3/8 holes in plates, and 1/4 inch holes in gaskets, thus sealing the electrode holes edges. It litterally SUCKS the elite from the reservoir.

And I wonder is having High elyte flow through the cell makes up for current loss through the holes. Whats your take on this?
