I can't tell you how much time and money my brother and I spent playing this game. What great memories at Friendly Hills Bowling Alley! Thanks for posting!!!
Lost (and corrupted) lunkers in the original Ni-Cd on the zpu-1000 PCB. I had not reset the bookkeeping yet (or replaced the battery on the board) when this was recorded in 2007.
Thanks for the reply. This was one of my favorite games. My best was about 22,000
I really liked playing this game. I'm thinking about buying some vintage arcade games and start collecting, I went to school for electronics and have been dying to get my hands on some games and repair them and play.
wasn't there a trick to stopping the intruder alert ball from kumin out if I can remember u had to trap it in the bottom rite hand corner or sumthin I cud b wrong
notice how the head rotates? that is the funniest thing. esp. When they fire, how fast they rotate indicates their speed of fire and the intensity of their anger! another thing when they engage you, their heads seem to pause and vascillate side to side while in direct fire, which also shows their anger. damn funny.
woa. ownage. you almost own as much as me. lulz. no ur better. my best is like 4000. i did'nt know there were guys after the gree guys. cool! i got the arcade in my house for my b-day. it so awesome. nice job. brings back the memories. know wut i mean ?
I do know what you mean! :) This Berzerk was number one in my old days - number one for the collection. I guess if we have the real deal we really do 'own' them - now we can practice without quarters and get better to beat Phil Younger!
I'm no "Roman" Catholic, but I confess that I broke off the upper four inches of the joystick handle of the Berzerk console at an OC pizza restaurant back in '81 or '82. I palm-punched the joystick upon losing my last man in a game in which I'd exceeded my personal-best score by quite a bit. A week or so later, they'd replaced it with a much smaller joystick having a red-ball handle. I never liked that joystick as much as the original, "Bonjour-Jeans-Commercial" joystick.
I'm hunting for that same version 1 joystick for this very game. If you know where to find one let me know. That's a great story - better to bust a stick than to have a heart attack! Thanks for your comments.
Thanks - I've got much better games under my belt yet! Mr. Alan McNeil, the creator of this 1980 Berzerk game, he rules! Looks like Phil Younger rules the gameplay (at the moment) ;-)
Wow, if that doesn't take me back to the early 80's! I've always loved that robotic "INTRUDER ALERT!" line, I remember it being a big deal back then that a videogame had actual dialogue, simple as it was....
Berzerk was the first in the industry with voice synthesis - a whopping 31 words (@ about $1000 each). The robots are also a perfect match to the Cylons in Battlestar Galactica. :) Glad you liked the post! I connected a response video there with better audio. Thanks for your comment.
Right On! Always glad to bring back good memories. For me owning this arcade is owning some great boyhood mojo! I hope to get some more classics and their gameplay up here this year.
So many quarters vanished from my pocket when I discovered this game. Youre gamplay brought back some great memories. {{{QUARTERS DETECTED IN POCKET}}} :-)
Thanks for your comment. Glad you liked it! Me too - I lost pretty much all my paper-route money in this game at the Putt-Putt arcade in 1980. Sodas and a Walkman blastin' The Kinks "Destroyer"!
my record is 3850, what is the world record?

There is a berzerk game of MAME where the robots speak German(berzerkg).ACHTUNG EINDRINDLING,ACHTUNG EINDRLINGLING(Intruder Alert,Intruder Alert)!

@123456RaulMorales
And oddly enough, you can play the game with English text and German speech.

Instead of wasting thousands of robots, why not just start with that smiley thing coming for you. It's clearly superior.

At the end of the video, on the high score board...Why is the 5th high score 6-digits; 414400 ? something fishy about that...

can you die if you touch the walls?
ScrewAttackEurope 4 years ago
Absolutely. Use it to your advantage though because the robots can die too. Getting them to run into walls is especially important in later levels.

Can you complete the game?
ScrewAttackEurope 3 years ago
I don't believe anyone can 'complete' the game.
See the official scores at twingalaxies.

Love this one myself. Got hooked on it back
in 1982 and got hooked again now that it can be played on a PC with MAME :) Brings back the memories bigtime!
