  • Maybe she was nervous, but I definitely don't like her performance

  • OMG... he sings gracefully.....

  • ok, I have to admit, I flinched when Emmy Rossum started singing. She's not horrible, it's just really shrill especially after Patrick's smooth voice.

  • SO beautiful! I would give my left arm to be able to sing like her. Patrick isn't too bad either haha ;). Just lovely voices

  • Patrick Wilson. Unf.

  • he was in the movie The Alomo he played as Travis

  • What's so wrong with her ?? I thought she was did a good job as Patrik.

  • @Tangmo7446 Same... :S

  • patrik wilson can sing reelly good

  • You guys say Patrick sang better, but good lord I could never do what Emmy did right there. I think she has a stunning voice <3 beautiful!

  • @lissygirl532 do you study music or something? i agree i do't have her voice, but she has sung better this song :) she's amazing...but here i don't like her

  • Loved it. Patrick is such a handsome man. Love his voice. Emmy's dress is lovely.

  • I thought Andrew Lloyd Weber on the piano was the best performer :D and yeah Emmy Rossum didn't sound as great as she does in the movie.

  • It's incredible that Emmy Rossum can sing like that. Opera is such a hard style to sing and she nails it.

  • Patrick Wilson...you are yummy :)

  • I love Patrick Wilson! I wish he'd hold my hand!

  • Emmy sounds like she is really pushing the words out. Patrick is smooth as can be.

  • are they in Japan?????!!!!

  • i feel like this went too fast. the piano was not the music that is what is known to be the original....makes me sad...because its a masterpiece. the whole opera.

  • @wernera1 Ya I noticed its a bit different, but thats Andrew lloyd Weber on the keys back there so im sure he had his reasons for changing it. so its not like it is some hack of a pianist

  • Did Patrick wear a wig for the movie or did he get his hair cut after the movie?

  • @RacbecSkywalker I think it was cut.

  • @RacbecSkywalker I'm pretty sure he wore a wig. In the special features you can see a blonde Raoul wig in the background.

  • is she also an actress? lovely voice!!

  • @SweetieWee yes thats emmy, she played cristene in the movie phantom of the opera

  • I just love it ... very well done both of you ;-)

  • @iheartlove7 .. I know...just to remember the fans... That man is "the man"...alw :)

  • Look ate the pianist...

  • @rickballista thats andrew lloyd weber, he made the music for phantom of the opera

  • wow patrick is amazing!

  • Not that it really matters, but any reason why they lowered this song to C Major?

  • Pay no attention to the man playing the piano.

  • @broadwaymusic4life THE MAN???? oh no don't mind him ... only THE MAN that composed the bloody thing!!!!!! my god!

  • i got the ringtone of this and it was like turn my head with talk of summertime and not raouls part i was soo mad lol i love this song go team raoul

  • emmy is so. ridiculously. pretty.

  • I think the reason she lowered the key was that it was just the piano. I mean, those high notes wouldn't sound very good with the piano live. Idk. I've only seen the movie with her in it, and of course she's not going to sound like she was on the track. I still think it's good though.

  • @1AdrianR This isn't an english test, no one asked you for T or F.

  • @sarahxboxbeara Sorry. I just disagreed with your thought that it was transposed down due to the accompaniment. Sorry again. I must say I admire your eclectic musical tastes.

  • @1AdrianR whatever

  • She was so shy, she was singing so fast. :p

  • dude, this is an Opera. and you are takling about a pop version is better!

  • @zt689 this isn't an opera, it's a musical. the music for it has a bit more of a romantic and operatic style, but it's still musical theatre. the most operatic piece in the show is "think of me", particularly at the end, but this song is just between two romantically involved characters hiding in the opera house.

  • @lineskogans25 You are right it isn't technically an opera, though it does use many operatic devices of the Romantic tradition. Particularly for the managers.

  • Now this is singing talent from them both. Absolutely amazing voices and wonderful chemistry. Too many artists these days can't sing live like this, or well, at all.

  • Aww she's nervouss

  • AMAZING!!!! HAHAHA Emmy is so tiny and dainty I'm so scared she's going to break :P

  • They were great although better in other versions. And I believe Emmy Rossum has been sininging opera since childhood

  • I appreciate Emmy for getting me into Phantom -- she was soft enough to help me fall in love with the musical initially. And she's a beautiful young actress -- good for the movie.

But Sarah Brightman is the best. It's her role.

  • emmy is ok she did good but nowhere near to sarah shes wonderful

  • When you listen to just the voice, she is good. But if we are talking quality, she is really breathy. She couldn't hold it long enough to sing each line. She also is not fully relaxed through it all. So she sings some parts too soft, and looses the sound alot. Compared to Britney spears, she is great, not comparing to anyone she is good, but compared to Sarah Brightman(whom this was all made for back in the day), well she would just not do well. What ever happened to total quality?

  • emmy's the best christine in my opinion....

  • Here's my opinion: I don't think either one of them "suck" and that's just rude to say. I think Emmy has a more "urban" sound - aka untrained, very light, kind of airy and subtle which movie goers who haven't seen Phantom would find more appealing to the ear. Sarah and others who play it on Broadway have classic, legit and thoroughly trained voices. They both have different, lovely vocal qualities, personally, I prefer the 'legit' sounding Christines but I guess it comes down to what you like!

  • Emmy is an amazing singer, i love and envy her voice!!!! in my opinion, she fit the roll perfectly and it wuz az if she wuz born to be Christine!!!! and if yhu dont think so, watch the movie!!! :D

  • So stupid that they lowered the key. They should have never had Emmy in this role. She's a good actress but she's not ready to sing this. If she had more time and training she probably would be a lot better. Her vibrato is sooo fake and the tone of her voice is sooooo dark (soft pallet is like overly raised)! Patrick is amazing though.

  • @Rachster86 She would be better if she could hold notes, work on not dying (not hearing the person suckin air like they are dying), and not needing to use so much vibrado. Sarah Brightman lives on through her sound from the late 80's , 90's. She has aged gracefully, but her voice is not the same. So compared to her voice now...Emmy wins sadly, but only because Sarah lost her range.

    Sarah Brightman Forever

  • How Patrik hits that big note at the end is beyond me!

  • Emmy is CLEARLY not professionaly trained, her breath support sucks.

  • Nothing is more beautiful than Andrew himself playing this on the piano...gorgeous.

  • They look like they make a cute couple. :)

  • patrick wilson blows me away.

  • Didn't know Patrick Wilson could sing? He sings beautifully!

  • Emmy sang badly but patrick really did a good job.

  • @cwang22 sarah brightman fan. :P

  • @cwang22 In all honesty,i probably wouldn't sing that well with a fox like Patrick singng to me all romantically *sigh* <3

  • omg its andrew lloyd webber himself playin piano

  • Comment removed

  • @heavymetalangelx: Me too :)

  • i LOVE patrick wilson

  • Argh Emmy getson my nerves, she's terrible.

  • Emmy is gorgeous and talented, but I think her voice needed time to mature a bit more first. SHes only gonna get better with age.

  • It was so sweet when she seemed nervous at 1:30 and had to start really fast and he took her hand. Maybe that's just the choreography but I thought it looked sweet like he was trying to help her.

  • emmy is really good but sarah brightmans the best =]

  • super loooooooooove it...<3 ^_^ <3

  • Emmy is amazing. I think she's better than Sarah. And Patrick is much better than I expected him to be, I will admit. (:

  • whoa he's even better lookin with his haircut :p haha

  • HOTTTTT!!!! hahahahahaha....yeah!!!!!

  • I love this version.

  • Patrick Wilson and Michael Ball are the best in this role!

  • Emmy is awesome. Patrick sounds sooo much better here than he did in the movie...and he was great in the movie.

  • She's not very good live, is she? Pretty voice, but not very good.

  • i love her dress

  • emmy rossum is the best christine by far, sorry thats the truth, period.

  • good god patrick wilson is georgeous

  • I love it

  • anne hathaway was originally going to play the part of christine in the movie...i wonder how it would have sounded with her? still like emmy though!

  • He is SO MUCH BETTER than she is.

She sounds (and looks) like freshman students in my voice program - lots of unnecessary movement and vocal instability. There are also some very strange vowel sounds happening here, some overmodification.. hmm.

Also, just a note: "Phantom of the Opera" is not opera. It is musical theater.

  • @elizabu I agree, but it's also I guess a way to mirror opera in a way. It's supposed to have elements of, but not really be, an opera. And you're right. She really does sound unstable. Renata Fusco...the Italian dub singer, now that is secure without giving up an innocent, young sound (which is apparently what they're going for).

  • @SMSProductions1 She's probably nervous.

  • @elizabu I love listening to her, and isnt that the point?

  • I love this! but anyone else notice the odd thing emmy always does with her lips?

  • OMG she would not stop moving her head!!! lol

  • I like Emma , But I prefer Sarah , her voice is more beautiful than Emma !!!!!

  • yay i love them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It sounds a little bit strange to me...with the piano

  • Yeah, put that Andrew Lloyd Webber character to work. OMG, Christine is hot, beautiful, sexy and has a magnificent voice. Wait, is this the same Emmy as in the movie? If it is, she's much better than in the movie. I hate the movie. Just terrible. The Phantom doesn't even look scary. All he looks like is that he needed so Proactiv and that's it. Stupid rendition of the broadway. My opinion. Chill you psycho fantoms. haha : )

  • I thought Emmy was perfect. She kinda did mediocre in this performance. She tried too hard to make every note strong, which sucks cuz the thing I like about her voice the most is how subtle it is. Though I have to say that Andrew rushed on the piano too much. I don't know if they were trying to meet a quota but the accompaniment was way too fast. As for Sarah: like Emmy better. I don't think we can really figure out the best "Christine" because it's really all about preference.

  • @lakacro

its been 3 years sence the movie came out and im sure emmys voice is still maturing which is y she sounds so different... emmy and gerard r the best cast!!!!

  • Patrick Wilson has one remarkable voice

  • I know it's almost impossible not to compare sarah brightman & emmy rossum but really it's kind of unfair to do so..

emmy was 18 when she sang this! For someone who is so young with clearly less operatic experience as sarah, she was pretty amazing.

Another thing-they were able to re-do the tracks as much as they wanted for the movie. Singing live is a whole other story for someone whose trade is not opera singer. While I think some parts could have been improved, she was pretty amazing overall

  • prooven ....

    Emmy is NOT a soprano,

    and NOT Christine!

  • @SamSkii14 She may not be a soprano now. Her voice has developed into a lower range. But when she did the film & this, she was able to sing the required score. I also have to diasgree. (In respectful way) I think Emmy had near perfect characterization for Christine. I think she really brought the emotional essence into the story. What didn't you like about her portrayal?

  • I think Emmy and Patrick did a wonderful job with this iconic song! Their voices blended together so beautifully. Their portrayals of Christine & Raoul is one of my favorites!

  • AMAZING

  • she's not so good when her voice isn't being altered

  • @Yellie876 i totally agree, it doesnt sound as pure or smooth, as it does when its altered.

  • love patrick so much!!!!!! patrick's voice is so charming, even his looks, and moves!!! waaa!! he's like a prince charming!!!!! emmy is so beautiful and talented.. so young but so excellent!!!

  • Lloyd Webber = GENIOUS!

  • Emmy does have a nice voice but it's to modern.... -.- Sarah has such an amazing voice!

  • @Kazunomiya32

Sarah has had lots of training too, Emmy has not had as much training, but for what she has is doing very well.

  • Sarah beats Emmy... But although Sarah possesses the most beautiful voice, there is no version as sweet and mesmerizing as Barbra's... Anyway, the three of them are definitely marvelous singers...

  • This love song is perfect for any love couple out there in the real world. LOVE IS FOREVER!

  • nice ^.^

  • Patrick Wilson was the best singer of the three leads in Phantom! He has a musical theatre background. Plus, he's very charming as Raoul.

  • i love this song...very much

  • Emmy is good! She sings well. But Sarah Brightman is a million times better...Sarah's voice is perfect!!! There's no way to compare cuz Sarah is the best ever!!

  • too much operatic is so ANNOYING! ..... EMMY'S version is the BEST!

  • Patrick is so mesmerizing!

  • i think what amazes me is that emmy was fairly young when she was first in Phantom. I love her though, Sarah Brightman was good, but Emmy just sounds more genuine, like she's not trying hard at all. And Patrick is amazing as always!

  • Woooow Patrick is amazing!

  • She is no Sarah Brightman!

  • That's true. Emmy's better. Sarah's so operatic! Yes this is suppose to be opera but it's just difficult too appreciate her. They're both good in their own rights, I guess.

  • @czamonix i think emmy is the best at singing this, i dont like claire moore or sarah singing it!

  • @mjgirl3 While I don't think Emmy is bad at all which is what some people claim. In fact I think she has a beautiful voice. It is untrue that Emmy has the best voice for this role. You are more then welcome to call her your favorite as that is your opinion. But it's a fact there are much more talented sopranos with trained technique that blow her away. She's actually a mezzo who had trouble sustaining many of the higher notes. Her E flat in the title song was digitally enhanced.

  • @czamonix LOL! I've never read anything so ridiculous before.

  • emmy is soooo lucky!!! patrick is amazing, handsome and talented

  • so gifted both of them!!!!

  • he has a more natural talented voice. not to mention her odd head bobbing thing.

  • Nice!!!

    :)

  • Flipping hell, Emmy's head was like one of them bobbing head things.

  • In the professional singing world, that mans she has a well-trained voice and that her vocal chords are relaxed enough for her to move naturally. It's a good thing.

  • Whoa! I didn't know Night Owl can sing!

  • She is gorgeous

  • r they goen out it looks like they like each other or r they ackting

  • they're acting. they played opposite each other in Phantom of the Opera, Patrick played Raoul and Emmy played Christine

  • She struggles alot as you can hear it in the cracking of the voice.

  • Oh, plz... can u do better?

  • thank you sooooo much for finally saying soemthing to those kind of judgemental ppl who say Emmy can't sing and yet i bet they can't even carry a tune

  • Emmy´s voice is amazing as well as Patrick´s! Both are awesome and two of my favorite singers.

  • lovely....just lovley....

  • still love :D

  • I wonder if Patrick knew he would have to do "promotion" like this lol.

  • raoul is AMAZING!!!!he needs to be on broadway or west end!!!!! em's an ok singer, but if mr. webber liked her than that's enough for me.

  • He's a long way ahead of her lol, his singing is just brilliant. Couldn't have picked a better Raoul.

  • i like emmy. she sings really well in my opinion. patriks voice is like velvet

  • @lolwuttles thank you!!!!!!

  • it sounds lower than in the movie, not a huge fan of her as a singer, but a good actress....

  • Wow they truly are great singers they were good in the movie but i thought it was because they touch it up and stuff

  • OH!! It took me like, 20 seconds to figure out that it's Patrick Wilson!!! I didn't recognize him with out the hair from the movie. . . Wow.

  • of course the voices are different. in the movie their voices were digitally enhanced and altered

  • I love their live voices much better than the recorded version in the movie. Both voices are more strong, and better developed.

  • COMPLETELY agree!!!

they souns do much better live!

    oh, i love Patrik (L)

  • Completely agree.

  • amazing.. simply amazing

  • her voice has changed

  • Nice fog, haha.

Patrik Wilson's voice makes my heart melt. <3

aw, that kiss at the end was cute.

  • ~*Emmy And Patrick Sing Beautifully, One of the Best movies Ever! *~ -D

  • Emmy sings so beautifully!

and is it just me or does she wear white a lot? in interviews and stuff :P

    I love her!!

  • She's alright but I love Sarah Brightman she is a beautiful singer!!

  • Emmy Rossum is a classically trained singer.

  • WOAH, Andrew Lloyd Webber!!

  • Not bad. Really, not bad. Thanks for posting!

  • WOW he shits all over her LIVE!!! hes fantastic here.

  • He's good, isn't he :)

  • Nihon?

  • Emmy has a pretty good voice for an actress. There are some parts where she's good and some parts are just eh...

    but Patrick! O
