The audacity program has a fade out and a fade in function. Alternatively, you could select that portion of the soundtrack and decrease the volume as you rerecord although that is clumsy.
The harmony is just need recording a high and low part relative to the melody. I have a reasonably good harmony brain and my brain figures it out. Usually there is a high and low part and possibly a third party even higher or lower often an octave or another harmony.
