The Lama put salt on the "drum thing" because it is representative of the universe. It is called the 37 point mandala in which there are 37 items of offerings to the supreme field of merit. Although when performing the mandala offering you are supposed to say the offering verses. I wish you all well in performing 100,000 mandala offerings as part of our preliminary practices. May it generate generosity and purify obscurations of the mind!!!
Hmm it would be nice to have subtitles of what he was doing! Was he using sand or salt!! Wat was the purpose of heaping salt onto a brass drum thing??
@tatulover01 I believe the salt is used for the same thing it is in western witchcraft, that is for purification. Im not for certain though as I wasnt bale to witness this first hand! Im glad you enjoyed it!
I love this! I am a buddhist as well and would love to have seen this in person. There is no temple in my town where I live, but maybe one day I could do some traveling. Until then I so appreciate seeing these videos. Thank you for sharing dear :) BB XXX
@phanie12 Unfortunately I did not, but the Ecumenical Buddhist Society here in my town uses this very same method in making a Mandala offering! We do it once a month.
