  • shatner your days are gone...the only thing you will be leading is the alzheimers in your new world

  • The reason Leonard Nemoy couldn't tell him what the story was is because there was no story. It was just a stupid movie that made no sense.

  • lol the chicks kind of a air head

  • Fail, Shatner embodies the Trek series, the film depict's the original Starfleet yet somehow it falls short. Story would have suffered, Lullzzzzz, Trekkie's wouldn't want it any other way but since this movie cater's more to potential fans and Hipster's, I guess my argument is irrelevant. The film was well executed but mediocre, worse of all, it isn't even remotely similar to the original series. I hope Shatner appear's in the next release in 2012.

  • amazing to be honest, the way he succinctly puts it down "that was another lifetime..." so true, and i think we can all relate to that phrase.

  • It would be nice to see Shatner in another Star Trek movie because he already knows how to play the role properly, but I'm not sure how they'd accomplish this. Then again, it's science-fiction, so you never know. Perhaps an alien from the future will travel back into the past to revive Kirk to help save the universe...or maybe someone will once again tamper with history and save Kirk's life in Generations before he's killed...but that would require Patrick Stewart to make an appearance as well..

  • They raped the franchise with the new one, I love Lost, but Abrams ruined this with his brash and loud style. The only good scenes came from the planet Vulcan

  • I have never been into Star Trek. I watched the last Star Trek because Zachary Quinto was in it because he's Sylar in Heroes and he's awesome.

  • They didn't want Shatner because they don't want fat or bloated people appearing on Star Trek, the makers of Star Trek seem to suffer from the same obsession with physical perfection as the Nazi's did.

  • Shatner needs to realize nobody in this world will ever forget what he did for Star Trek. Not a single fan, or even nonfan. The man is recognizable by almost ANYONE who watches film or TV. He's a staple of American cinematic history. He's not an award winning legend, or the greatest actor of all time. But he doesn't need such pedantic descriptions. He is a beloved actor to a beloved character millions around the world feel enriched just for having experienced. He should be truly happy for this.

  • Bill your nuts, when you were younger you were better looking than Pine and had TONS of hot looking girls after you on Star Trek! He can't hold a candle to you!

  • To everyone who keeps saying Shatner hasn't been in anything since Trek and is washed up, he garnered tons or critical acclaim playing in Boston Legal. So take that. People think that he can't act just because they don't understand his style of acting and the era he was playing to in ToS. He is actually quite a marvelous actor, and has only become more so over the years. Sadly, Kirk is dead, and must stay so or else other continuities fall apart. This woman was very badly behaved.

  • he doesn't look anything like the old Kirk

  • I really cannot stand this lady. Does she know not even all the actors in the movie (such as Winona Ryder) did not even know the story? Did they offer you a role? Obviously they didn't. STFU!

  • So are we going to get all stupid and random with the Star Trek movies just to satisfy people's egos?

  • He seems sad that not only wasn't he offered a role, but some young buck is taking over a role he made famous... he also seems sad, thinking about the past, and knowing that the best times of his life are far behind him... i can imagine feeling that way when/if i get older.

  • lol he's gone from three belt sizes from his life time.

  • Old trekkie here that likes the XI movie! It brought life back to the franchise, which was really needed.

  • New start trek is a piece of shit, come on Bill, come back for a real star trek feeling ! ^^

  • My God! She is talking to the man like he is so old he cannot remember his first name!

  • @chopin65 That annoyed me too, you could tell he was kind of annoyed as well.

  • @neokoga He did handle it with grace and a sense of humor. She is hot. So she can almost get away with treating a legend in that way. He was also staring at her tits the whole time, too. Can't blame the guy. lol. I'm a life long fan of Shatner. He is like that really cool uncle that comes over on holidays and lets you drink from his beer and tells dirty jokes. He is a cool guy.

  • @chopin65 Oh of course, yeah. He's a respectable guy so he handled it well. I just always get a kick out of 'reporters' who ask the dumbest questions.

  • I ben Nimoy was protecting him. Like Spock always did. He is So sweet. I bet when Mr Shatner saw the film he said. WTFaser

  • i'd like to see shatner put in the sequel, if not as an aged kirk then as some other role. i just hate seeing him so sad. :'(

  • (Spoiler) Leonard Nimoy wasn't in this movie for many minutes, maybe they want to focus on the new actors - and look ahead. Spock (Nimoy) had a direct connection to Nero (as both were from the future.) It was a big part of the plot.

  • It amazes me how America just tossed hima side and gave praised to that film. It's like Goig to war against Iraq because they can't kill the bastard in Afghanastan.

  • @TrekkieGal69

Yes, the entire collective population of the nation threw him away. Your arguement is invalid because it makes no goddamn sense.

  • star trek 11 was absolutely shit, it wasn't star trek but teenage piece of effects and fight scenes

  • Im from Vulcan Alberta, take that

  • They didn't tell him for very good reasons. Just like they killed off his character in Generations for a very good reason: so he can't play in anymore trek movies.

Shatner you know why the studio is not telling you anything, and not including you in the film. It is because you are a drama queen, everything centered around you and till this day you still believe that. You think anyone wants to work with that if they don't have to? NO.

Old man you dug your grave long ago now go sleep in it.

  • Dead characters appearing as a guest is easy, especially in Trek. The problem is context and how you do it so it didn't seem out of place. examples are Flashbacks, recorded videos, holodeck simulations, to alternate parallel universes.

  • @zenzmurfy and with the new series, kirk's future changed so old kirk gets to grow older too. Though I don't really imagine something for old kirk to be in, besides a cameo.

  • @zenzmurfy be that as it may, i'm SOOOO glad Shatner wasn't in it. The story was to mainly revolve around yes, the main cast/group, but primarily Pine as the leading role. Classic Shatner would have taken away the intended focus and spotlight for Pine. To make the new head star/lead and then put clouds over it would defeat the intention of a new star. Putting Shatner would have not only diverted the intended focus, but also would have contaminated the originality of the new era movie.

  • I've heard talk of them bringing him back but I don't know. I heard people talking in the hallway at school so I don't know how reliable it might be but still, that would be awesome.

I REALLY want to see Shatner in the next film!!

  • This kinda makes me sad....

  • it so funny that he says he never got asked to be i the film... look at the video in the right hand list its the 10th one "william shatner talks kirk in JJ abrams star trek"

  • Shatner's funny.

  • It's your own fault, Shatner. You wanted to be so bad in Star Trek 7 you were even willing to have Kirk killed off. And now all this talk about resurrection... How realistic is that? You're not Spock, after all. Accept the fact that you're retired. Go feed your horses.

  • He claims they never asked him! This is nuts! These Star Trek fans can't get over the fact that Kirk died in "Generations" that they want to find a way to bring him back! It least in the JJ Abrams version, they should of let him have a role in the film, like a "guest" appearance.

  • @VirgilB01 They may not have asked him (ofcourse not; Kirk is dead) but he also said in an interview that the writers could have picked a plot from his own Kirk-books involving resurrection by the Borg to bring him into the movie.

  • @MLFive-Yes the charater Kirk is dead, but remember he died in the nexus on "Star Trek- Generations" So some type of resurrection by the Borg or some other advanced species could work.

  • Yes, it could work- but why make all that fuss? They already resurrected Spock, if they start doing it with others Star Trek will be less believable and will look like a Marvel comic.

  • @MLFive - Well I don't remember Spock being resurrected, he somehow stayed alive in one episode in TNG even though he was very old. McCoy was seen in the first episode of TNG as a 120 yr. old Admiral ( which was DeForest Kelly last appearance before he died ) Scotty was found alive in a transporter beam on the Genolan in a episode of TNG. So to find a way to resurrect Kirk would be difficult at best and probably unbelievable.

  • Haven't you seen Star Trek III?

  • Yes, They resurrected him in that one, {I forgot ) sorry:)

  • Bill must be very saddened by this.

  • American sci fi heroes CAN'T REGENERATE!! SUFFER!!!!

  • I love Bill Shatner and he is by far my favourite Star Trek actor/character. He is looking rather sad here.

  • I would imagine I'd feel pretty bad too if I wasn't asked to play some part in it.

  • There would be no "best star trek movie" were it not for William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and the rest of them. I enjoyed the new one and I am really glad it did so well, but it wasn't the "best". Khan still sets the standard.

  • Fuck yes it does.

  • he was in the best Star trek movie: the Wrath of Khan! :P

  • Aww poor Bill. You can see that mournfull reminisent look in his eye when he see's the new Kirk and the original Kirk. Dont worry Bill to us Trekkies you'r always the one and only!!!

  • shatner in the movie would have - sorry - ruined it. it was a good decision with spock, but kirk too?

  • I agree 100%

  • He would have only been a hologram and a voice-over that Spock Prime shows younger Spock during their scene together near the end. It would have been Kirk's last recorded message to Spock before he disappeared on the Enterprise-B.

  • I heard he could be playin kirks grandfather tobirias

  • PS - Also, if he wanted to be in future movies, maybe he shouldn't have let them kill him off to begin with?

  • The only way he could have been in it is, as they said, as a "message" from his older self to his younger self.

I'm sure they could have done a great Shatner's-Kirk-comes-back-to-life movie if they wanted; but that's not what it was. It was a prequel. Having Kirk alive would have been a whole separate plotline.

I'd have loved to see him in the movie as much as anyone, but there was no room or need for it since they were doing a prequel, not a continuation.

    Maybe next time. :)

  • The death of Kirk took place in the "old" timeline, the one nero pretty much eliminated by going back in time - remember when old spock tells kirk that Kirk in his timeline knew his father. So they could work it i on the premeses that it is a new timeline and therefore nothing that happend on the series or the previous films has to happen in this timeline.

  • Aw. I love him. You will always be Captain to me. Honestly, gratitude and respect for all he has done in making this wonderful story.

  • In this timeline, sure, but there's NO such thing as 'too old', and people really need to remove that from their vocabulary. What, Kirk must stop having adventures once he's a certain age? (yes I know he died in the films, but in this timeline he could meet a future version of himself). Lifespans in the 23rd century, also, will be far longer.

  • Who exactly is Shatner going to play, the new Kirk's grandfather? I get the feeling that Shatner actually believed that he would be cast as the lead - no amount of soft-lens technology can change the fact that he's too old to play Kirk.

  • He was offered a small spot and he didnt take it I wish he did hopefully in the next ones he gets a good little part

  • She was really fishing huh.

  • Shatner's pissed about it all. He hides it pretty well.

  • They should have a role for him in a future film. He was the greatest captain of all. Go back in time to warn his younger self of something...Even if only by message.

  • there wasn't a practical role that shatner could have played in the movie. the story was crafted to perfection. it would have just been an ego-stroke to shatner had be played a role in the movie. Kirk died, so no future kirk to play cameos. I think the story would have tremendously suffered had they worked Shatner in there. The poor old shatner is just sad that he's not kirk anymore. He's THE kirk, i understand he must feel more OLD cuz of all this. but this movie isn't for shatner.

  • @gkundo I sure hope you're talking about the original Star Trek when you say the story was crafted to perfection and not Abrams' rushed terribly written attempt at getting an original cast member to appear.

  • @Gimpy2k7 2009 was excellent. Pine was a fantastic young Kirk–he has the eyes, the looks, the sex appeal, etc. Classic sentiments are for the classic trek, not for 2009 movie. 2009 movie was the one of the best fusions of two eras and was not meant to be a remake of the classic. 2009 was damn good and I stand by it that the movie was perfectly crafted. Pretentious classic fans (trekkies, not the trekkERs) may be biased in disliking 09, but this was a NEW movie, not a remake. Don't compare.

  • @gkundo ARE YOU RETARDED OR SOMETHING?!

    WHAT STORY PERFECTION! LOL

God... There are a lot of JJ Abrams lovers out there that take peace of shit marketing directed prognosis to create movies/series.

Its shameful that people accept that kind of trash and mistaken it for quality.

  • @gkundo The only thing I disagree with you is the whole Kirk is dead thing. Star Trek Characters have been dying and coming back to life in the movies and TV series. They could have easily brought Kirk back.

  • @brscth yes, they can easily bring old kirk back to life somehow, but really, to revolve any future trek movies around shatner just so he can relive his kirk days, seems a bit silly. He definitely could not share the camera with Pine in the latest movie cuz that would just overshadow the effect & purpose of Pine being the new Kirk. Pine was the main star & like most smart films, other characters will NOT outshine the star, especially for the spirit of the Kirk role that Pine played.

  • @brscth How many more time-travel movies before the idea gets oversaturated just to let shatner relive his kirk role? Especially since Pine's movie was a time-travel movie, can they can make another GOOD time-travel movie with Pine AND somewhow involve Shatner in it. Generations, First contact, 2009... I think we've had enough time travel. kirk already came back in Generations. If he does it again, he's just a grumpy oldman that won't quit. THUNDER STEALER! I like shatner, but he's done!

  • @gkundo well its true that the story would've been screwed if Shatner appeared. however, i think he does have some reason to be sad, since he's acted as the main character of the TOS for years and yet, no one's told him anything.

  • @gkundo YOU DUMB PIECE OF SHIT, FUCKING SPOCK IS IN IT AKA LEONARD NIMOY THINK ABOUT IT MOTHERFUCKER!

  • @gkundo what story?

  • @gkundo I guess it must've been for Leonard, lol!

  • Interesting that he claims he's never been asked to be in the movie. Yet another video over to the right in "Related videos" he's doing another interview 2 years ago, and he claims there he WAS offered a role.

Maybe he's done Denny Crane so much he's truly coming down with Alzheimers.

  • Abrams and crew had a cameo worked into the script, that Shatner heard about indirectly. He says he was never approached by anyone.

  • How dare you, its mad cow!! but on that note, imagine denny carne IN the new Star Trek film.... awesome

  • William Shatnter looks very good. And he still want to play Captain Kirk. I think if the current Star Trek is a great succsess and there comes a sequel,i think they MUST aktivate Shatner .

  • Needs to start working out
