How did Kathryn end up shot and in 1955?

@ZisisBizis Kathryn wrote the MIR-12 journal, the one that lead her to Renko in the first place. She did this because apparently when she sank with the Pearl it took her back in time to 1955 (how she got shot is not clear), thus fulfilling a predestination paradox requiring she write the journal to be found by Renko.
