@VintageTelevision863 well, to be fair, her voice was naturally much deeper than it was on Lucy, but she made it a bit higher while she was on that show, on more than a few occasions she did slip, but age and smoking also probably contributed some...
To me this personifies the clown within the elegant. Lucy in the clown outfit floating around the set holding balloons. She truly is the Comedy Queen of the TV Screen. I Love Lucy and that isn't just a title.
The Official Second Season Of "The Lucy Show," Lucy's second series is being released on DVD July 13, 2010! So everyone go out and buy it so that the third season is released quickly! It is in Color! and is hilarious, it also co-stars Vivian Vance(Ethel)!
Vivian Vance was born in 1909 she would have been 100 this yr. Lucy was born in 1911. This was a great show. Her voice was always deeper she made it higher in '' I Love Lucy". She did Smoke Non-Filter Cigarettes for decades. Brands like Chesterfields in which she was a model for the Cigarette company in the early 1930's When I Love Lucy was sponsored by Phillip Morris Cigarettes she used to take Chesterfields and put them in the PM wrapper since their show's major sponsor was PM.
It's sad about her voice. =( It didn't have that usual kick in The Lucy Show that you got used to in I Love Lucy. It was getting all gravelly and gross. I wish she had stopped smoking in the 50's... she might even still be alive today. Age 99? Could have happened.
@prckay Is this particular video from Season 1? Her voice sounds better than usual, but still slightly gravelly. Have you seen the Lucy is a Disc Jockey episode though... during the scene where she was actually on the air, her voice was PERFECT that day. I closed my eyes and could see the I Love Lucy version of Lucy in my mind, bun and all!
Many books state she was born in 1912 (one year after Lucy) because that's the year Vivian claimed to have been born in. But census records proved she was actually born in 1909.

That is a bit exaggerated XD If you know some physics, you will know how much cans of helium needed to lift an adult :D Anyway, if you hold 2 to 3 advertisment balloons, you can start to feel floating 0.0
The official unedited first season of "The Lucy Show" on DVD has FINALLY been announced. Do a search for LucyScroll, or go to this Youtube link for details: watch?v=4-ySG2nZvGk
I think Lucy had a thing for balloons. she did a show with Danney Kay. where she busted a stage full of large teatherd balloons the show was climaxed with a balloon drop Lucy and Kay stomped all of them. She did a number of skits that involved popping balloons.
None of Lucy's shows were the same after Vivian Vance left the regular cast. They were great but the marvelous chemistry between Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance was pure and solid gold.
I agree. It's almost unbearable watching The Lucy Show after Vance left. The stories were almost the same. Lucy was always trying to rub elbows with a celebrity that Mr. Mooney met. The same plot, different episode. The 62-65 episodes were far better. Vance was so underrated.
you are so right I love this show but as soon as Vivian Vance left the show lost its magic. I have always thought Vivian made I love lucy and the Lucy show I wish she would have stayed on longer.
Congrats about the document, I was a child here in Brazil when I watched this episode! Did you copy from VHS or there are DVDs with this episodeos ? Now I am searching for Ep with Mickey Rooney. Good memories!!
Brings back great memories.

As Desi used to say, "This could only happen to Lucy!" :D What's even funnier is Viv acted like Desi when she said, "What are you doing up there?!"
Forever the cast of Lucy, all series and episodes! :D

HOW COME HER VOICE IS LIKE THAT?? in I Love Lucy her voice is so sweet like an angel..is it because of her smoking habit??

One of the books I read on Lucy said Vivian
Vance was actually the younger...by a couple
months.
Lucy always gave lots of credit to her writers
who created the humor and to Desi who
made things happen; like getting the shows
produced.

Odd how she's swinging. What's causing all that momentum? Why would she just float up, instead of swinging from side to side?

You don't really think that few balloons is actually lifting her, do you?
