Add Natalia Yurchenko to the USSR team and Mary-Lou Retton would have been lucky too medal.

Yurchenko had an off meet at the alternate games, but yes, she would have been lucky to medal. I even think that Szabo would have been more of a force if the Soviets were there, because she would have more pressure to hit.

@javajunkie6 Yuchenko still won the vault and had she been at the Olympics, Mary Lou Retton's vault would not have been difficult enough for a 10. Shushunova would have been there too with a full twisting Yuchenko. Remember she was took AA bronze aged 14.

A full twisting tsukahara is valued higher that a full twisting yurchenko, although then the yurchenko was probably considered harder then because it was so different than anything that anybody had ever seen.

Yurchenko tied for vault with Mostepnaova :). I would have loved to see her take a medal on bars as she did in olomouc because her release combo was so ahead of her time. I don't think that Shushunova would have won an all around medal, without mistakes from more experienced gymnasts.

I think holding the leg up was more a stylization than a requirement on compulsory beam.
