  • Quick, someone get a bucket.

  • The Beautiful Day Monster sounds like Cookie Monster. I assume he's voiced by the same person. Am I right?

  • @13eds: I believe Jim Henson voiced Kermit. Frank Oz may have taken over at some point after Henson's death, but in this classic episode, I think it was still Jim Henson.

  • How does a puppet fog up a lens?

  • 1:51 that look was hilarious.

  • this... used to scare... the HELL out of me!!!! *LOL*

  • lol trying to get a puppet to show pronunciation :P

  • Yes! I finally found the one skit that used to scare the bejesus out of me. Everytime I saw this as a little boy, I had to turm my head away from the TV as BDM would do that B sound and the screen would go white with just his bugged out eyes and open mouth showing. Kind of freaky for a kids' show.

  • @hoffenpot This sketch used to scare me too! The early eps were sometimes weird even for a kids show.

  • Beautiful day monster sounds like cookie monster!

  • @13eds Frank Oz does the voice for both of these guys.

For a little extra note, he also does Jedi Master Yoda from Star Wars.

  • Lol poor Kermit got scared lol

I use to laugh at the monster part I luv to laugh lol

  • Does anyone remember the one where Kermit tries to discuss the letter F but instead has an E next to him? (The Beautiful Day Monster appears in that bit also.)

Another one has Kermit wanting to discuss the letter R but Cookie Monster comes along and destroys one of the legs turning it into a P - does anyone recall that one also?

  • Today's Sesame Street doesn't show comedy anymore, just education and Elmo.

  • To be honest, the ending scarde me, too, when i was young. I still would like to kick the producer's ass for that f***in' ending...:-D ;-)

  • freaky man

  • That monster is called 'beautiful day', and he appears in a number of SS clips, he's also one of the few SS charecters to take a wife.

  • @dangard88 I never saw that. Who is/was BDM's wife??

  • @66zebulon

We mett his wife on a Guy Smiley game show similar to 'newlyweds game', we learn that BD's faviorite color is green & his faviorite sport is scaring people. His wife's name escapes me, but she's a green monstress.

  • Trudy is the wife's name, and BDM was named Ralph.

  • Look up "The Mr. and Mrs. Game" and you'll see!

  • the ending was awesome!

  • w i cried when i was younger

  • Wow that was a crazy ending. It's like something I'd expect to see in Yellow Submarine.

  • @TheStapleGunKid Let me say this, the monster Beautiful Day Monster's breath simply fogged up and faded out the screen.

  • Id cry at the ending if I was all alone

  • lol did anyone else notice the other minster was just a redone cookie monster?

i though it was cookie monster in disguise until the end XD

  • I think its his unkle

  • sry cookie is a redo of him

  • lol THUSLY!

  • I remember this from Episodes #1235 and #1306. Classic!

  • B for Beautiful Day Monstoer

  • I'm talking about the sound of the letter "B". So you just "B"-quiet.

  • BBBBUUUHHH! BBBBUUUHHH. BBBUUUTTTT! Placing the lips together, and filling your cheeks with air slowly, and you let the air out. BBBBUUUUUURRRRPPPPP!

  • Oh the the "Beautiful Day Monster", I like his design that way. He also appeared with no eyes and kissed Ernie in one skit, 4 eyes with Ernie and Bert and the re-runs looking as we see him there.

  • NO FUCKIN WAY that was the real ending??

  • LOL! Now I sing A...CDEFG

    Cuz B is scary!

Although Kermit did a FANTASTIC Job!

  • Hee hee. Yes it was. I remember seeing that for the first time when I was little and wondering why I wasn't blown away too.

    Marvelous stuff.

  • HAHA, "bh, bh" xD

  • omg i would've been scared as hell if i saw this as a kid.

  • Oh man I loved this one when I was a kid!! It made me laugh so hard. I remember it perfectly! I always waited to see it again but never did till now. I guess they pulled it from rotation cuz some sissy kids got scared. Bunch of babies! lol!

  • This is beautiful: introducing to preschoolers what they may later learn as phonology.

  • Wow, that would have scared the crap out of me as a kid... glad I never saw that one.

  • LMAO!!

  • YOU GOT ANYTHING CHEAPER?

  • DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING CHEAPER?

  • From 1969.

  • Actually, from 1970. February 11, to be exact.

  • 2:02 Man, talk about bad breath!

  • lol he needs some breath mints :D

  • I don't think the Monster was really "evil" here. He was obviously a nice friendly monster that just didn't know what he was doing.

  • Or maybe just didn't know his own strength? Whew!

  • I remember only seeing this once as a kid. I don't remember being creeped out by it or anything but seeing it again the end is kind of spooky.

  • what's with the scary monster ^^

  • The Spanish-language version of this clip can be shown on a Plaza Sesamo video "El Alfabeto de Montoya" ("Montoya's Alphabet")--despite the ending is cut where the monster fogs the screen by roaring the B sound.

  • Beautiful Day Monster should come back to Sesame Street. He is so cool!

  • @38MGA Yes, he is! I sure do miss him from the 1970s episodes! :)

  • This is really funny. Not like today's Seame Street.

  • Fake puke at the end would make it great! Goes purple with brown eyelashes.

  • I'm in the minority here. I laughed hysterically at the B monster when I was a kid, just like I am laughing hysterically right now.

  • Me too. I can barely breathe, I'm laughing so hard. I'd forgotten how funny these skits were. There was some other SS stuff that freaked me out as a kid, but not this. The belch heard 'round the world!

  • I've always thought that the beautiful day monster was more cute than scarier but seeing the ending made me realize why he's no longer on sesame street

  • I probably wouldn't have watched SS anymore if I'd seen it when I was younger.

  • ahhhhh this scared the shit out of me when i was a kid! I am so glad they banned that creepy looking monster

  • :40 mmmm...BA I love the way his mouth moves. It's like he's trying to burp. XD

  • Wtf, he says "thusly."

What kind of kids show did I grow up on anyway?!

  • Man, can that Beautiful Day Monster B-B-B-BLOW!

  • ...And it would be very cool to see him sneeze!

  • I'm 24 years old, 6'5" 225 pounds and a former linebacker and that scared the hell outta me.

  • I remember this one fondly, though the end did make me wonder if something went wrong with my TV set! (Only kidding!) BTW, there was another 'B' skit from the 1970's featuring Kermit and Cookie Monster, where Kermit likens the letter 'B' to 'a fat man with his belt too tight' and Cookie comes along and eats away at the 'B,' until it looks like an 'R,' then a 'P,' then a '1,' etc.

  • Yo!! I thought I'd never see this one again! Count me in as another one who got scared senseless. I never knew he was called "Beautiful Day"!??? He scared me here, but I always liked him, & I liked Kermit too.

  • I LOVE Beautiful Day Monster. Best monster they ever made.

  • I really hated that monster. He has a face that would stop a clock!

  • yeah i hated that monster too, he is like a creepy version of Herry Monster

  • I had seen one of these skits where he was loud in the 80s when I was little and I remember being afraid of him cuz he sounds just like cookie monster (same Frank Oz roar) but he's unfriendly, rought and VERY LOUD!! This one still gives me the creaps at the end when he yells it at the camera.

  • No kidding. Freaky.

  • In the second season, Beautiful Day was replaced with a blue nosed Herry Monster.

  • did they replace Beautiful Day monster because he was too scary?

  • I think Beautiful Day was kept around, but mainly in the background, one monster among several. But anyone who remembered him would have noticed.

  • These Kermit videos are very strange and cool. Me likey.

  • Oh yes indeed did this freak me out as a kid... I didn't remember how much it scared me, until the very end!

  • I kid you not...when this thing was first posted, I literally was watching it from behind my fingers like it was a horror film scene...that's how much I remembered being terrified of this as a kid...(they had to be on acid when they did this one)...but as many have posted, I love Beautiful Day now...Lulu anyone?

  • beautiful day monster is trippin.

  • hugic you ROCK !!! where on earth did you find these ?!?!?!

  • Exactly what I want to know. I think this is from episode 3, so this is a question that I really want an answer to, seeing as how rare the season 1 episodes are.

  • Actually, this is from episode 68.

  • Oh. Well, either way, this is still from a rare episode.

  • Beautiful Day Monster is so cool XD together with Cookie Monster he's my fav muppet of Sesame Street!

  • Huhhhh...mmmmmmBAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUHHHHHH!!! :)

  • Just keep in mind... DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING CHEAPER?

  • This skit's pretty much given the Beautiful Day Monster a bad reputation. I'm glad I was born in 1988, since they weren't showing this anymore then.

  • That particular 'B' looks like it's upside down!

  • To be honest this skit scared me when I first saw it. It's actually a very clever skit, catches you off-guard; a bit of an adrenaline kick for a Sesame Street sketch.

  • When I was little and there was a thunderstorm and lightening would flash, I would see this monster. This was really scary. But it's weird watching as an adult. So are a lot of the other Sesame Street clips. Thanks for posting again.

  • The monster's 'Bah!' scared Kermit out of his life!

  • I agree, this one just spooked me! Can see why they didn't show it again! Cookie Monster's version, where he's ripping off the pieces and eating them, is funnier.

  • I used to hate that Beautiful Day Monster! He doesn't bother me very much now but as a child, he gave me many nightmares!

  • ... but you would like him better on The Muppet Show! DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING CHEAPER?

  • Yeah! It's back!

This clip gave me nightmares for at least a good decade after I first saw it. I refered to Beautiful Day Monster as "The B Monster" as a direct result of this clip. And yes, many closets were left closed and lights turned on at night for fear that the B Monster would jump out at me and go "Baaaaaah!"

Even though I was terrified of him when I was a kid, he's one of my favorite Muppets now. Now psychoanalyze that!

  • It gave me nightmares, too!

  • I woke up one night when I was three screaming because of this skit. I think many kids felt this way. The show was toned down come the second season and those to follow, thus, making the newer monsters less scary. being this show was in it's infancy, they wanted to see what worked and what didn't.

  • It's interesting to note though, even though they stopped making skits with Beautiful Day early on, they kept playing them. I remember seeing him in various early skits throughout the 70s and even from time to time in the 80s. I think the first time I ever saw this skit was in 1976, which was quite a few years after BD was "retired" from being used on Sesame Street.

  • BD was brought back for some episodes of the Muppet Show, he looked much different, perhaps less scary than here.

  • The ending scared the pants off of me!

  • Join the club. This really freaked me out as a kid. I have this on pause now, but I'm never watching this skit again!
