Force yourself to try make the board land like, behind your front foot but infront of your back foot. So like, the board's between your legs. Thats how I learnt it when it kept going behind me. Then when you get it right between your legs you can just bring your feet in and stomp down on the grip.

best tip i can give about heels are with your back foot hang your heel off the side of the kick so your on yourtoes/ball of feet, that will give you a nicer pop and keep it under you more, thats what works for me anyways.
