Most of the airplane crashes have a combination of causes, pilot error ,technical failures, weather...etc. Only the black boxes and investigation will form a theory about the crash.

21 years of flying in the USAF and now 777's it's pretty much 95% not lightning related. I've had bolts travel down the entire aisle of the plane and maybe get a few volts surge out of the 777. My gut says this is turbulence/decompression related. The plane's computer sent warnings to Air France HQ about decomp. prob's a few sec's before the end. If they decompressed at 35K ft death was immediate.
To "StormWolf01", If rapid decompression occurred death would result from hypoxia or deprivation of oxygen. The reduced oxygen impairs your judgment and you may not realize you need oxygen until it is too late. Symptoms vary, shaking, euphoria, coldness, blurred vision, etc then you pass out. Death would not be immediate but within 1-3 minutes. I was a F/A for 13 years. That is why it is said to put your mask on first before helping others.
if the plane suffered a serious decompression , where there was a massive hole board in the plane, they could immedately freeze, ice particals would form in lungs in a split second
decompression.... electrical failure, cargo door failure anybody? keep in mind this plane was 4 years old... how can a lightning bolt create a rapid decompression? the short circuit theory is ok... i could only guess an short circuit made the locks open so resulting the decompression... but the mistery remains how the short circuit was produced the first time... here comes the twist... lighting bolt? As you know planes are made to withstand shocks.. the whole plane acts like a big lightning rod.
But it can be that the plane landet into the water and they swim with " orange rescue boats" because the TAM Pilot said, that he saw orange dots in the water.

1. There was a bomb in the airplane, someone called that there might be a bomb in the airplane, but nothing found.
2. It was hit by lightning strikes.
3. That was the exactly point where the ozon layer is very small, maybe is was too hot there by the sun (that's what I think)

I strongly suspect that the ONLY merciful event that SAVED face of the rescuers is the natural phenomenon of gas build-up in the bodies of those deceased.
The fact is, this natural metamorphic change allowed them to float to the surface - and so giving the rescurer's at least a BREAK & some CLUE as to where the plane went down after 6 whole days of cluelessness!

No disrepect to the French and sincere condolences to their loss, as well as all others.
HOWEVER, I fear that French engineers may have played a sigficant role in mis-engineering the electronics on this plane.
You only have to look at the notoriuosly high record of unreliability in French cars...they're way behind the field when it comes to designing reliable electronics in cars. So how can we expect to feel safe on their planes?

I agree that French cars are terrible, but you can't use this kind of comparison when you talk about planes.

In my opinion I think people know what happened to that jet but its probably highly classified. I think it was some type of military weapons test gone wrong.

I jumped for joy upon hearing the news of the crash. I love watching the plane sink to its watery grave. I enjoy hearing the passengers screaming for help. The bottom of the atlantic ocean is a awesome place to sleep on. I'm disappointed that the death toll is so low. A bunch of bodies floating on the atlantic ocean would've been an awesome sight.

What really puzzles me is why, in this day and age of telecomunications, the flight recordings aren't broadcast to a central recording "station" and avoid the delays and millions of dollars spent in looking for blackboxes after an accident!! Something is amiss!

are u kidding me, its not the technology its the licencing of frequencies, there are only a few we can use and many a reserved such that we have no access to them. Honestly Blue tooth can be extended easily but legislation prohibits it because it switch between 60 frequencies or so per second would distort other communications

If u fly through a storm live broadcast would almost never work. The charges hitting the plane from the storm will generate frequencies of all spectra and will begin to superimpose onto the original signal.

I've ALWAYS propagated that PLANES SHOULD FLY AROUND STORMS NOT INTO THEM, cut the crap on "safety" you're talking of a small metallic object in a HUGE stormy condition that is subject to a lot more stress than it should be.
FAA should change rules 1) divert flights from storms, LOSE MONEY ON FUEL, SAVE LIVES 2) Plane levitation mechanism thru parachutes or buoys 3) Light parachutes tied to every passenger. Futuristic but LIFE SAVING imranokazmi.wordpress

I have one hope for the victims if there were in fact no survivors. Decompression was mentioned. If that was the case at 35,000 ft. with no warning then at least they passed on quickly. :( My prayers to you all and your surviving families!!!

21 years of flying in the USAF and now 777's it's pretty much 95% not lightning related. I've had bolts travel down the entire aisle of the plane and maybe get a few volts surge out of the 777. My gut says this is turbulence/decompression related. The plane's computer sent warnings to Air France HQ about decomp. prob's a few sec's before the end. If they decompressed at 35K ft death was immediate.

To "StormWolf01", If rapid decompression occurred death would result from hypoxia or deprivation of oxygen. The reduced oxygen impairs your judgment and you may not realize you need oxygen until it is too late. Symptoms vary, shaking, euphoria, coldness, blurred vision, etc then you pass out. Death would not be immediate but within 1-3 minutes. I was a F/A for 13 years. That is why it is said to put your mask on first before helping others.

decompression.... electrical failure, cargo door failure anybody? keep in mind this plane was 4 years old... how can a lightning bolt create a rapid decompression? the short circuit theory is ok... i could only guess an short circuit made the locks open so resulting the decompression... but the mistery remains how the short circuit was produced the first time... here comes the twist... lighting bolt? As you know planes are made to withstand shocks.. the whole plane acts like a big lightning rod.
