  • can this connect to a computer

  • how does the coil connect to the speaker wire?

  • What types of neo. Magnets do you need?

  • where do you buy the coil.....just tell me what kind of shop where you buy it.....

  • great job! several things to consider when doing a project like this..

if you want it to last.. buy a generic rubber surround.. also make a Spider that will last longer and stay put.. perhaps a streached baloon or thin laytex washer or piece of streachy book cover..

also be sure to use enough wire of proper gauge to be at a impendence that is safe for whatever amplifier you will be driving it with.. weather thats 2-4ohm (car) or 6-8ohm (house)

  • did that even work ?????? u should make a vid using it

  • if i use the same copper wire how many watts do they take

  • @osthyvel100 depends how much wire you use (how many times you wind it round)

  • @RWL2011 3 layers

  • @osthyvel100 depends on the diameter of the voice coil. but i had an 8" with a 4-layer that was 250w RMS

  • i desperately need the measurments for the cuts ur making. im confused and only have a limited amount of supplies.

  • Where did you get those magnets ?

  • ICETEA!! NICE SUB dude!

  • can you please tell me how to wire a sub?

  • so does the voice coil just hang above the magnet or does it sit around the magnet?

  • Best subs are made so: Voice coil height=magnet height, you center the coil and lift it up to about half of magnet height :)

  • That's pretty good sized wire for a low-end DIY subwoofer :P Looking good though.

  • U can make a diy amp. Look up the tin amp. U just gota figure how to make it more powerful

  • Nice job! but why didn't you make it square instead? shouldn't that make everything easier? now all we need is a way to make a diy amplifier xD

  • where can you get the magnet

  • @4663GA either online=amzon, ebay stuff like that or if you have an old computer you dont need if u take it apart and close to the hard drive there is one or at a hobby store they will have some.

p.s. i dont know if all computers have that magnet but if you not sure weather its the magnet just put something metal next to it

  • great work

  • that is what inspired me to make homemade subwoofers: great job!

  • So where I can buy neodymium magnets???

  • You can't really find neodymium magnets in local stores, unless your looking for like 3/16" ones, which suck. Destroy some old speakers, or buy them online

  • dude this s AWSUM im gunna do it!

  • COOL

  • I wonder how much watts does it have..

  • How did you make those circles so clean on the edges?

  • that looks soo sweet man

  • wow impresive , good job man

  • where do you get the neo magnets

  • ebay the one he use in here i think is between 100 and 200 bucks!!!

  • Are you serious? The magnets he used are $3.10 and around $9 for the bigger one!! LOL

  • dang i bought mine a while ago for over 100 and its not much bigger than the one in this video

  • The only neo magnets I've seen sell for $100+ are ones that are bigger han 3" by 3" and ones with a 500 lb pull force.

  • Curious as to where you got them for that price

  • I don't have any myself so I'm not sure about shipping but a several oz. magnet can't be much. You can find good magnet deals especially in the clearance section (magnets in the clearance section stay there for a long time, both magnets in the vid are still on clearance) at magnet4less/DOT/com.

  • do you have any idea how many ohms that is

  • hi excellent example of how to do a subwoofer. now i have some questions, how can i check polarity and also why my sub didn't worked if i buyed a voice coil that was already done?

  • where did you get the magnet? n does it have to be magnet wire or can it be copper wire? i like the step by step it helped alot more than expected

  • that is impressive, great use of common materials

    5*

  • how would you wind a dual voice coil would you finnis one before you start the other or do both at the same time

  • did a dual 4ohm 12in. woofer n i finished one coil before i started the other n it sounds really good n can handle alot of power

  • Fantastic use of materials! 5 Stars for quality.

  • It sounds great and deep.

  • impressive

  • Youtube is worthless when people put in slideshows i doubt it even works just because of that.

  • This was meant to be a tutorial/how to video. I did it this way to save hours of video time.

This works check me other videos if you think it don't work.

  • @J07C24S88 You saved hours of video time by not actually making a video.

  • im not so clear on the wiring part how did you get the speaker wire to connect?

  • I used some of the speaker wire for the lead wire.

  • where did you connect the lead wire?

    @J07C24S88

  • Hey Great vids. I am trying to make one of these. They look awesome. I have a question: Did you amplify the sound after getting out of the computer? I mean I saw some other videos of yours and it seemed loud. Mine is not finished but the sound is very low. I gave it a 9v dc so to see if it is working good and the voice coil moved properly on the spider. So I think I have to amplify the sound. Thanks for the vids.

  • what did material you use for the cone ??

  • Foam board

  • maann im in the process of makin a 12 inch and with ur plans its comin out awesome. I finished the basket and cone, now all i got 2 do is make the voice coil and put the magnets in. thanks alott mann these vids helped alott

  • ok so i have watched each video and both really cool!!!

Only one Q: How did you measure out the frame. like what are the measurements for all the parts? or did you just cut them free handed with out measuring? that's the only part I do not understand

  • First I drew each part 1/4 scale on grid paper. Then drew them regular size on the foam board. The diameter of the rim is 13" and the cutout diameter is 11" and the mounting depth is 6-1/2". I had to have each measured correctly so it can fit like a puzzle. Planning the design takes the longest.

  • ok thanks.

for a beginner (like i have never worked with the construction of subs before) what size sub you recomend me stating with

  • I started with an 8" sub. Its good to start off with that so you don't have to use alot of materials to make the basket strong. Also its easy to center every thing. You can try a 10" or a 12" sub for your first sub if you want.

  • yea i was playing with coils a lot too and actually have a REALLY good one done, but i don't have the rest of the materials.

making the spider will be the toughest job.

  • did you use all of the wire on the spool and what was the resistance of the sub

  • I can't wait until I finish my subwoofer. I made a really tiny test speaker (about 2 ft. of voice coil wire with a 1/4 by 1/4 inch cylindrical neo magnet) and I plugged it into my receiver. Well, when I turn on my receiver, it waits a few seconds, I hear a click sound and it turns on, but when I cranked my little tiny speaker (about as loud as earbuds, from a distance) putting almost 20 watts into it, the receiver clicked and turned off! I thought I broke the receiver, because only one speaker..

  • would work now. So I switched the wires (left speaker into left channel, right channel into right channel, because I normally have them into opposite channles for some reason), but strangley that same speaker only worked. Then I realized the left speaker wasn't plugged in and it was all good, : ). I seriously thought I broke it for like a half hour, LOL.

  • I know your heart was beatin hard.

  • Yeah because I actually thought my little (irreplacable) buddy was a gonner. Finding another JVC RX-307 for $5 would be like finding a Ferrari in a used car dealership for $2,000. It has a safety feature so it shuts itself off if it is at any risk, so it's impossible to kill it by plugging in a bad speaker, 8 D. It turns back on once you turn down the volume to 0, so almost immediatly it works again.

  • hmmmmm sony were the first to use the saftey feature in amps, i had the same worry when testing my sub, i just didn't use enough wire

  • This amp is from 1992, just incase you're wondering. But my subs are from 1980 : ).

  • woh 1980 ^^ the oldest sub i had was from 1990

  • Yeah, they were made back when designers acutally knew how to make subs bump off of 20 watts. They reach max excursion at a little less than half volume, which is 23 watts! I couldn't imagine how I'd feel when, or if they blow. They've been of half volume for 28 years, almost every day during the entire time the store was open. They are tough subs. I think they'll last many years to come.

  • HAHA heroic subs for sure ^,^ , i blew my jbl sub after 2 years, just playin too hard... goods subs anywayz

  • I'd like to make of vid of them but I can't use my camera because the memory card broke 2 months ago. It won't let me delete pics and it's completely full.

  • have you tried a complete format ??

  • I'm just gonna get a new one. I think I somehow uploaded a virus to the card : /. Or I probably jacked up the security settings.

  • well if you like, you could play a bit of the bass test i just made yesterday. you can find it in my vids.

  • yay finally an update. keep us posted man! i so gotta get me some foam board, i've been busy with other things unfortunately.

you might want to use epoxy instead of gorilla glue, gorilla glue doesn't like heat and breaks off easily when hot, plus it also smells like shit when that happens. but if you won't use it at full power then it should be alright.

  • This sub can get loud. I'll post video of it playing soon.

  • i cant wait!
