When I was in sunday school I asked a lot of questions. The teacher had no problem with the easy ones, but when she didn't have an answer (most of the time) she would just say "we don't question god" That kinda pissed me off & turned me away from the faith.
Anyway, we got to the "unforgivable sin" part & I thought I found a way out of the class. I just said: "I hate the holy spirit"!
Didn't work & I was to remain absolutly silent in class after that. ='(
When Matt says "I don't agree with some of the tactics atheists use" and spaghetti monster becomes seemingly animated and starts to turn and stare at him like "What you talkin' bout" ROFLCOPTER There should really be a puppet show with him, jeebus muhammad and the whole bunch.
I think atheists can go to heaven, this whole who gets in and who doesn't is kind of ridiculous don't you think? Most of it is just pure speculation, to say you know without a hint of a doubt is pretty absurd.
That's actually from Thomas Hobbes. It's an old view. I'm sympathetic to a type of non-religious Christianity. I like many aspects of it, mainly those related to the drive for self-improvement.
Islam’s teachings preached that Judaism and Christianity are true religions, because it would legitimize itself by building on accepted religions. That is the same reason you have so many different sects in any religion. It is easier to build on a brand name. Lime Coke would sell better than an ordinary lime drink.
@47saeed By oversimplifying, you're setting yourself up to be at least partially wrong - and if you're partially wrong, the wrong part is all the people you're trying to convince will focus on.
you started this off wrong, the only person who don't know the Bible is you guys obviously because you believe you are Gods and you have that right but my GOD is in heaven and cannot die like you will.. Good Luck....your gonna need it!
I would love for there to a heaven. Not the christian heaven of course, but I would love to believe in an afterlife. The only reason I don't is because there is no evidence to suggest that such a place exists. Faith is moronic, and causes you to waste your one and only life slaving away to impress your imaginary friend in order to be rewarded with a nonexistant spot in "heaven".
@Awesomesome Just remember that Matt is an ex fundementalist preacher, and so by what you are sayin is that say for example Maradona (an ex football / soccer player) cant turn round and say that another current player that is still playing is shit and cant do it properly. So yes he can say that!
@Awesomesome I know that, but you were basicly saying that an atheist couldnt say that a theist was taking part in their belief system incorrectly but he is an ex fundementalist preacher and so therefore know the workings of the belief systems and so can know and say that others are doing in wrongly even if he doesnt believe the systematic workings anymore
@supah4xor That's certainly something I didn't know about him, but it doesn't render me wrong. If you don't share the belief system of someone else you aren't in a position to tell them they don't understand it. He may have once been a Christian, but not all Christians share the same belief and therefore his particular sect still does not give him the right to tell one of another sect that they do not understand their own beliefs.
@Awesomesome Well yes actually it can be done by anyone, just aslong as this person knows how the people within the system should be acting and observe that they are not acting how they should to fit their belief structure then you can say that they are not acting how they should. For example ive never gone fishing and know very little about it, but if i see someone casting their hook into a paddling pool then i am justified to exclaim that they are doing it wrong
@supah4xor The difference is knowing "how they should be acting". You can tell the fisher they are doing it wrong because they actually can't catch fish that way. It's not so easy to see how someone can or can't catch God's splendor.
@Awesomesome No but Matt is talking about how a large percentage of each religion mentioned, especially the 2 main christian branchs (catholic and protestant) at 74% believed that non theists could still get into their religions heaven. Whereas if they were true hardcore believers of their religion they in reality they should believe that the only way to their heaven was to believe in their religion, but high majorities dont believe that and so they are not follow their religion correctly
@supah4xor You make foolish mistakes by saying "if they were true hardcore believers" and "they should believe". Why do you get to decide THAT's what it means to be a "true" believer? Is it so wrong to believe God's love can extend to non-theists and theists alike?
Actually, you're wrong. Matt knows 1000s of times more about christianity than you EVER will. He is a full out expert compared to you, so I would shut your mouth and learn a thing or two.
Because we have critically examined that belief system. Believe it or not, most of us used to be theists until our studies in our faiths revealed how unbelievable and unsubstantiated all of the ridiculous claims were.
@drche420 Let me rephrase to maybe make what I'm saying clearer. There is nothing in the phrase "American white evangelical" that means those people must believe atheists cannot go to heaven.
their talking about atheists going to heaven. y do atheists believe in heaven if they dont believe in GOD? GOD is heaven, everything that is light, everything good in the world, is GOD. hey if u really dont wont to hear the word of GOD. its kool. just say you dont. we will move on and try 2 save some1 else. u deny GOD. go ahead. when u and i die. thats when it matters what u believe n. whose right? but idk about u but id rather believe n something that is purely good. no sin in his world.
What makes you think that it's purely good what you believe in? If you believe in the Judeo-Christian God, dude, he's not purely good. He's the biggest sadist in the whole history of literature and He's even worse than Satan.
as an atheist, and I think others can agree, that it is heretical for a christian to believe atheists will be accepted into heaven. That may make the person a more caring, tolerant individual, but it makes them a bad christian. sorry if my comment was basically stated in the vid
There are different branches of Xianity, some might be ok with nonbelievers going to heaven; but then it makes no sense to me to be a follower of their faith since you'll get (or "can get") to the good spot anyway.
i'd say it'd be even worse for them to believe a Hindu could get to heaven, especially since they believe only ONE god gets worshipped or he gets pissed
good people go to heaven it does not matter if they are atheist or theist

Oh it's VERY simple.
Fundies of ANY religion belief good things will happen to them when they are dead and bad things to everyone BUT them.
Cafeteria religious people have the view that good people get good things after dead and bad people get bad things.
Both are nonsensical, but the cafetaria type is benign, whereas the fundie version is hostile.
TheSkunkCat 11 months ago
@TheSkunkCat
As for those holy books. No one ever reads those. ESPECIALLY not the cafetaria types.
The fundies on the other hand just cherrypick whatever justifies their bigotry from the books.
