You already have directX 9 installed. It look like you need upgrade RAM and Video card. I would got Geforce 9800 and 4 GB RAM for better picture and smooth.
hello i am having trouble when ever i try to open it up with the exe or sh it opens but it closes and my desktop is stuck at 640*480 resolution please help.
Poor performances with my GeForce 8300 GS (as expected), I only managed to run it at reasonable FPS at 800x600 and it still lags a lot when I'm outside in the grass (all I can do is blindly cast spells XD).
your fps looks a bit shaky for your system specs, but I assume that's because you're having so much I/O recording this video.. When you're not recording, is it drastically smoother? Or are there still framestudders?
Also, are you playing this with everything cranked to the max settings, or what?
im new to hardy xubuntu and im trying to play wow...i have wine and wow installed...but it doesnt work is there ne1 that could send me a message or something preferably baby steps :) lol
I don't have any proof, all I said was that it was a high probability because of it's use of OpenGL (no OpenGL-> DirectX calls in Wine = better performance) and that it is very CPU dependent (you can play WoW with a quite bad GPU if you have a nice CPU). I don't play WoW so I can't do any benchmark. But I didn't claim that IT IN FACT PERFORMS better.
Anyone who bitches about "dropped frames" in this vid is totally fucking dumbass. You cannot make any judgment on dropped frames on a goddamn youtube video--not if you know a thing about the compression process. Great vid. Thanks for the post. Fuck Micro$hit.
Thanks! Recording a video in 1680x1050 resolution to the OS harddrive while playing a graphics-intense 3D-game require some serious juice from the computer. :)
Well, you should expect a lower framerate than in Windows, but yeah, it should run decently in fullscreen. The reason I play the game in a "virtual desktop" is because I like to multitask. :)
nice gpu, i have the same :)

Yeah, but you have to type long commands to the terminal. I've got too much thumbs to use Linux full-time.

@cthulhu2e implied - Suggested without being stated directly
Yeah, I pretty much said directly that Linux sucks
MrNumeroid 9 months ago
LOL The resolution is DEFINITELY 800x600.
If you use the same video card on Windows, you can easily run it at 1680x1050 or higher under ULTRA settings. What a joke.

okay,it still runs BUT im back to windows xp.
what about mythbuntu?some referees on it?

@OceanTango1 You just need Wine :) And if that doesn't work, PlayOnLinux might work, but try Wine first :)

Yeah, I also wonder what he meant. I guess he meant to say that it runs better and with higher graphics in Windows?

hmm... sweet. one question: can WoW be run under wine?
metasuperhyper 3 years ago
WoW can run PERFECTLY under wine
teren9 3 years ago
Yeah, it runs very good when you activate OpenGL instead of DirectX in WoW!
DaweyYT 3 years ago
WoW usually runs BETTER under WINE than actual Windows.
AFreakinProblem 3 years ago 6
What are you talking about? I have this game and it runs much better on windows. Pretty similar specs.
Astrapogiannos14 3 years ago
Astrapogiannos14, what game are you talking about? WoW or Oblivion?
Of course Oblivion runs better in Windows because it uses DirectX 9 and is heavily dependent on the GPU.
There is a very high probability that WoW runs better because it uses OpenGL and is very CPU dependent.
So please tell me what game you are talking about. ;)
DaweyYT 3 years ago
Ah i though he said Wow as in Wow this runs much better on linux. not wow(world of warcraft).
On the topic: You are of course reffering to the mac version of Wow right?
Astrapogiannos14 3 years ago
Now, I'm talking about the Windows version of WoW, running through Wine.
DaweyYT 3 years ago
Proof?
Astrapogiannos14 3 years ago
I don't have any proof, all I said was that it was a high probability because of it's use of OpenGL (no OpenGL-> DirectX calls in Wine = better performance) and that it is very CPU dependent (you can play WoW with a quite bad GPU if you have a nice CPU). wuhlei 2 years ago
No, no Mac binaries run in Linux.
DaweyYT 2 years ago
so there is some performance increase on older directx and cpu dependent games?
wuhlei 2 years ago
Oblivion runs great in Wine now!.
I have posted a capture with sound playing hide and seek with the guards of anvil :)

stevieistheman 3 years ago
Well, it might have to do with the fact that I record with a 1680x1050 resolution and saving the file on the system disc. : )

I'm looking into getting linux and morrowind/oblivion are the only games I play. Is it true that WINE doesn't support HDR, AA, and obse mods?
kadragon0 3 years ago
wine has nothing to do with mods or software
it's a compatibility layer, it runs pretty much everything
