  • lmaoooo @ Fagen

  • the amount of knowledge it takes to fully enjoy this is huge you have know steely dan know about sampling and know about(good)hip-hop

  • @whatthehellvideos and you have to have a deep knowledge of human rights laws, the constitution and of the 10,000 year history of mesopotamia.

  • Don't you love it when anyone stupid enough to rip off someone else's creativity has to give themselves an over-inflated name like Lord This or some sort of tough guy name. These guys (Becker and Fagan) though are the real overlords of classic groove, they don't need that hype and BS.

    Long Live The Dan!

  • steely dizzle fo shizzle. soooooooooo many jams over the years.

  • hahahaha

  • LoL

  • It's okay when they do it though... the intro to Rikki Don't Lose That Number is a Horace Silver Quintet intro (no lawsuit, big claim by SD on how it helped launch interest in Silver's music afterwards, not even a credit on the SD album), and Guacho was a composition based on a Keith Jarrett jazz song "Long As You Know You're Living Yours" (settlement for $1 million in favor of Jarrett, Steely Dan keeps song credit).

    Hypocrites.

  • They probably got paid royalties for the sample anyways, Thats why they're so happy lol

  • whut tha hell lol!

  • So hilarious. Long live Fagen.

  • i am a fan of the art of sampling..but takin the beginning as a whole and just loopin it without crediting the original artist is straight dumb.PLus its faaar from any standard of creativity.this video is hella funny and true tho.

  • hahahaha that's hilarious...just saw "The Dan" perform last week, they killed it!!

  • Let's see if I can end this arugment. Steely Dan: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, multi-platinum albums, Grammys. Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz: (crickets chirping)

    Thank you and goodnight.

  • I loved what Tariq and Gunz did. I just wish they would have handled it better.

    Steely Dan Fan $ Life

  • Oh. snap!

  • you want to talk about low-brow. howabout the idea that a couple of zeros from the projects wanna get rich, but have no talent, so steal someone elses work. man that's lower than snake sh1t. at least they get to keep all the money from their other hits. Oh, wait a minute.....

    Waaaahhhhh!!

  • wigger f(_)ck you

  • I'd love for teh Don to do this entire lipsync. I'd be LOL so hard.

  • dan rules, clear all samples

  • We rips you off, baby!

  • It's kinda of funny but it really isn't because they screw Pete & Tariq, instead of getting paid for the music, Fagan & Becker made them give up 100 of the royalties just like Allen Klein did to the Verve on "Bittersweet Symphony" the same year. Man the music business is dirty. Love the original though & Steely Dan but still they screw Tariq & Gunz

  • Amen. I want to laugh at this, but I can't--they're pompous assholes; childishly gloating over their legal victory. As if they needed the money.

  • Gloating? They were CLEARLY ripped off of. When someone else breaks the law, they become fiar targets for stuff like this. Gimme a break.

  • I didn't say it wasn't "fair." I don't even particularly like Deja Vu (Uptown Baby).

I said they were pompous assholes. Yes, you can sue them for not paying you for the sampling license, but don't go on video gloating about it. It's lowbrow.

I suggest you look up "gloating" in the dictionary.

  • Someone STEALS from you, and as a response you sing the lyrics to the song on an obscure DVD? I think we'll call it even.

  • Gee, yeah, that's exactly how it went down.

  • Stop talking SHIT all your life.

  • Judging from your response to JRock below, I think it's pretty clear who's talking shit, here. Peace.

  • Oh, like you DO know how this went down? Don't get all butthurt because your cheesy rap ass boyfriends got their asses sued for NOT CLEARING A SAMPLE THE RIGHT WAY. Look, this case was a matter of public record. You can look up what actually happened. That does, of course, mean you'd have to leave your little fucking fantasy world.

  • Yeah, I'm "butthurt" about my "boyfriends." Grow up.

  • Thanks, all I needed to know.

  • LOL, take a chill pill, grind it up and snort it if you have to. Maybe you should look up getting a clue, dude. Lowbrow? This is genius! My favorote Youtube yet! By the way, this is taken from the DVD for The Making of Aja.

  • I'm just calling it like it is, no chill pill necessary. And I haven't seen it in context, just here, so maybe all this arguing isn't even necessary. And, lowbrow definitely has it's audience..

  • You've got fucking blinders on. Care to even EXPLAIN just HOW this is lowbrow? Two Bard graduates making fun of some clowns who made a shitty rap song that sampled their work without clearing it legally is lowbrow? Put the pipe down.

  • The song was cleared legally and was credited on both the album and single.

  • It was cleared? Must not have been cleared properly then, if Tariq and Gunnz got sued. LOL, look, clearing a sample involves more than putting credits on an album, dog. You can't just go and sample whatever you want and think that the label copy will suffice to protect you from litigation. Where do you knuckleheads get your fuckin' information from?/Zoro

  • 1. I shouldn't have to explain why this is lowbrow. 2. Your logic makes no sense--are you saying because they went to Bard, anything they do is suddenly highbrow? 3. You clearly have too much of an emotional investment in this issue, and I don't think it's worthwhile for you to continue.

  • You're an idiot. What the fuck is more lowbrow than getting your feelings hurt because two wack ass rappers got sued for sampling a song without clearing it. Fuck off.

  • Yeah, you're definitely part of that audience, asshole. You don't even know the difference between "its" and "it's."

  • I didn't see it as gloating. He was goofing around. He didn't say "we sued those bastards."

  • *fair targets

  • I'm laughing at this! And so were Walter and DOn... All the way to the bank, baby!

  • Haha, why should Peter Gunnz and Lord Tariq get a dime? For their shitty lyrics?

  • Ouch!!! But it was a big hit. Their only hit but it was hit. Steely Dan should've took the usual 50% and Gunz & Tariq should have kept the other 50%. Fair is fair.

  • Yeah, keep dreaming. Also, where do you get this usual 50/50 split shit? A 50/50 split for an uncleared sample? LOL. Back to life, back to reality:

    1. They didn't clear the sample, so they got sued. Them's the breaks.

    2. It was a big hit, huh? So what? How does that in any way justify getting away with uncleared samples?

    3. Fair is fair, and STeely Dan did it fair. Their song was infringed upon by a song that became a hit, and they sued for what they thought they should get. That is fair.

  • If that was the case, they would've told the record label to take that record off the shelves or take the song off the album. I love Steely Dan but what they did was greedy.

  • You're living in a fantasy world, man. Where do you get all these half baked ideas about what record companies and artists that have been infringed upon can or can't do? Are you insane? IT'S CALLED COPYRIGHT LAW, LOOK INTO IT.

  • I bet you're a fat hip-hop fanboy.

  • lol,steely dan rules!

  • it's Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely dan.. the ORIGINAL song is "Black Cow". you absolute fools, haha.

  • those are the guys who originaly played it I think

  • it's funny how he recognized that it was sampled for a hip hop song

  • are you an idiot? let me answer that. Yes.

  • haahahaah who are these guys?!

  • LOL!!!!! I love it!!

  • Do you know the name of the song he's singing? I've been trying to look for it but I can't remember the artist or the name of the song...

  • The name of the song Donald is chanting is Deja Vu (Uptown Baby) by Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz. It's from the 1998 album Make it Reign. The video is on YT.

  • Deja Vu (Uptown Baby) thats the name of the song and the artist are Lord tariq and peter gunz, lol yeah i know these ol skool songs and flash backs and 1 hit wonders r hard 2 find ive been searchin 4 da actual music video but cant find it.

  • Really? I have it saved to my favorites!!!
