Realtors® are there to help people find a home, and to write an enforcable contract of purchase and sale. The lender is going to determine their ability to pay, and once approved, if the Realtor® told them they could not buy, the buyer would have a new Realtor® the next day.
@JordyBrisbin And who tells them what lender to use? Who gets the appraisal to just happens to match the (inflated) asking price. The realtors(R) greed for commission (along with the kick backs from the inspectors and lenders) makes it all happen. Get real, jordy.
@StopTheRealtors Maybe things are different in the USA. Here in Canada, no one tells the buyer what bank to go to, and appraisals have nothing to do with the REALTOR®. I don't know anyone who gets kickbacks from inspectors... This is just a bunch of hogwash. Wanting to make a living to support your family in not greed, it is the essence of the American Way, so I really don't get what the problem is.
@jvolstad You are free to use one of the flat rate fee services that put your house on the MLS, and you could get away with never talking to an agent, but you will likely net less for your home, and you will have to figure out all the legal aspects for yourself. You could easily wind up spending a lot more than this commission on legal fees, if you screw something up. We pay a fortune for office and franchise fees, insurance, advertising, and continued training. (and commissions are negotiable)
Not waiting for "Mr. Right" but she wants to adopt a child. Who is going to take care of the child when she is at work? Let me guess. Day care,

I think Realtors would do good working at Taco Bell.

@JordyBrisbin And for this we pay them 6%? Doesn't sound like a good deal to me.

Realtors are the poorest people you'lll ever meet. All their commission is spent on their image cars and clothes etc.
