hi, do you think that the roman republic was actually a geographic outcome of the the hills of the city? for example, maybe the peaks of each of the hills were owned by a few landowners who eventually all united to form a stronger democracy. then, as more peasants flooded into the hills' valleys, these landowners refused to hand over any more power so then the city continued to by run only by them. or, do you think early romans actually sat down and said "lets have a republic!" ?
