  • This is THE Rodgers & Hammerstein Cinderella. The 1957 version with Julie Andrews & Jon Cyper is simply too silly in its plot, though the players are very fine, as is the 1997 Disney pc remake that regrettably seeks to return to it vs this, but it's this Rodgers revision after Hammerstein's death that bequeaths the great realm of classic majesty (e.g. ever-elegant & stately and loving Pidgeon/King & Rogers/Queen & Holm/Godmother) that the other two are simply too silly and poor to approach.

  • pure magic...

  • @Bruce99100 That's what this musical is. Pure magic...

  • Thank so much for sharing. I love this musical.

  • @Sharlamayne Anytime.

  • Is anyone else reminded of Audrey Hepburn when they look at Lesley Ann Warren? What I mean is the dark hair and eyes and the nymph-like willowy build!

  • @71crm I do see the resemblance between Lesley Ann and Audrey. What's even more interesting is that Audrey played a Cinderella-type character in "My Fair Lady" (which I thought she did an excellent job in).

  • Thank you for showing the behind the stage cut with the TV cameras, never thought I'd see that. It's so nice to see it again after all these years and in color to boot ! Like most people we still had b/w back then and it was a real treat to watch it again as an adult. I was 9 back then and now I'm almost 54, where did the time go ? ;^)

  • @jdollinter I'm glad you liked it!

  • This was probably the best Cinderella movie of all! <3 <3 <3

  • love this. my mom had watched the movie when she was little and so did I. I need to pull out my old vhs and relive some memories.

  • Thank you so much, From a little girl of the sixties

  • @CarolElise07 You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it!

  • LOVE,LOVE,LOVE this music...

  • @nubian45 So do I. So do I. :-)

  • What song is at 1:45?

  • @gabrieljlivingston Loneliness of Evening, originally written for South Pacific but cut during early tryouts. During the movie version (1958), Emile deBeque writes a letter to Nellie Forbush, which contains a few lines of the song. A recording of Mary Martin singing the song can be found as a bonus on the original cast album. When theater companies do Cinderella, they have the option of renting the song.

  • WOW!!! Thank you so much for posting this! It is great. I couldnt help but tear up at the sweet memories I have of watching this with my parents when I was a kid. It came on once a year and I was glued to the tv the whole time it was on. Great job! Makes me really want to go back in time.

  • @boxerdogs11 Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!

  • OMG thank you so much!!!! It's my childhood memory!!!! Love the song and actress so much!!!! I love you!!!!

  • @kowei526 You're welcome!

  • Oh My God!!! This was my favorite video to watch when I was a little girl!!!! Thank you so much!!!!

  • @71crm Mine too. The music is so beautiful and the lead actors played their roles with such sincerity. A treasured memory.

  • Born in the late 50's this was a dream for all girls to meet their prince. Today, at 53, after many turns, I have found mine. This musical comes to mind each morning. Love is ageless.

  • I own the VHS and absolutely love watching it. If I had to choose between this and the one with Brandy, this wins hands down. But it's debatable with Ever After of course, at least for me.

I'm actually writing a book with a Cinderella plot, but the ending is an absolute twist. I'd watch the VHS to help me out, but I would be constantly fast forwarding and rewinding. I don't want to ruin the tape.

  • I've been looking for this for years! I used to watch this as a kid (circa 7 years old or so in 1967). I had no idea it was a major production. I thought it was one of those "made for tv things" that are long lost these days. Cinderella is so beautiful..I love the tune "It's Impossible" and I still remember to "rub a little unicorn oil" in my creaky joints.

  • @loocee95 I'm glad you liked it!

  • I was 7 years old when this first aired. My brother and sister and I watched it every year - we laughed ourselves silly at the Step Sisters' Lament each time! Throughout the years if we ever meet someone new we still say we, "murmured our how-do-you-dos" just to get the other ones laughing.

Thanks for reminding me of some great memories :)

  • @BernardProfitendieu You're welcome! I'm glad you like it! I wish there was a Special Edition version, though. The current DVD is nice, but there could be some more extras, like a longer making-of, an audio commentary, and (this would be great) a timeline on the history of the Cinderella fairy tale.

Oh well. Hopefully, it will happen. You know what they say, "Impossible things are happening every day!"

  • @fanofmusicals

My copy of Cinderella has an audio commentary on it. It is fun to hear lovely Leslie talk about having muscle relaxants shot into her shoulders because the ball gown is so heavy. Stuart Damon borrowed money from his agent to fly to Hollywood for his audition. Ms. Warrens quote Celeste Holm as saying, It will never be like this again." They must have known then that works, many works, subsequent to R&H would be the level that they are. How would they have known this?

  • @fishyfish4444 I have the DVD as well, and that information is actually in the making of featurette. I agree with your thoughts about Rodgers and Hammerstein works, including this one. There is just something about them that makes them so unique and fun!

  • @fishyfish4444

Because as long as they've been around, experience can teach that some combinations are so perfect, as here, that there could likely never be another to be anywhere near in elegant majesty that the regrettable '57 & '97 versions can't touch, though the '57 original version is by far the better of those two. Accept no substitutes for this '65 gold standard, the royal gem by which all others will be judged, no surprise since the Prince's name is Christopher, Christ-bearer.

  • @BernardProfitendieu I was 10 when it first came on and my brother and I watched it every year. Back then Cinderella and The Wizard Of Oz. was only on once year. We brought our blankets and pillows and sat in front of the television. I know you remember how special The Wizard Of Oz was back then because it was only on once a year. Now it's just other movie. Nothing special. I think it came on in Dec. before Christmas. There was only 3 stations back then and there was always some good on.

  • i remember as a kid looking forward to this showing up on tv...ms warren was so cute

  • Who writes better waltzes than Richard Rodgers? Not even

    the Strausses.

  • Thanks for posting this video...I am a huge fan of this movie...and have not seen these clips for many years......I love Lesley and Stuart.......:)

  • @cindyluq I'm glad you liked it!

  • @cindyluq you can buy the movie online now on dvd, if you don't already own it i mean :D

  • This is the best and most beautiful version of this movie. Thanks for posting1

  • It's amazing. When you're a child (I was 8 years old when I first saw this on TV) you absolutely get absorbed into the story. I was so enraptured by this production, watching it was almost like being a part of it. It was so real to me. Thank you for posting this. It brought back wonderful childhood memories.

  • I grew up with this version. I have this version on VHS. I look forward to having it on DVD. Someone downloaded this version and I had downloaded it to my play list. I don't know remember who put it on, but now it's not on youtube right now. I liked watching it from my computer. I got a better picture.

  • Thanks sooo much for this compilation! I still get choked up (and all smiles!) when I relive this from my childhood. And I'm a guy! And 55 years old!!! ;-)

  • THis movie is my childhood favorite memory. Every year I would wait for the broadcast. When on trips as an adult I play the sound track...I have the DVD, VCR, and all THREE versions to watch depending on the mood. This is my favorite "MOVIE" of all times. Leslie Ann Warren is the best, followed by Brandy, and then sadly to say Julie Andrews. I really love Julie Andrews but that version is the Pits.....LIve on Cinderella...Love to you all

  • My grandmother and I started watching this movie when i was 4 yrs old. That was 44 yrs ago. we waited all year for january to come. we sang all the songs. When I moved out of state and went back home to visit her I had my movie in vhs and then dvd for us to watch. Its still so very special to me.

  • I'm overwhelmed with emotion, I still get teary eyed after 45 years. Cinderella is my favorite childhood movie of all and still is! I love it! Thank you soo much for taking me back in time, very precious to me....

  • You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it!

  • I loved it! Happy New Year to you and family....be safe!

  • @857209

Please pass the kleenex -- same here! :D

Never missed a year of them showing it.

  • This is so wonderful! A favorite memory of childhood-spending the whole year in anticipation of it's annual airing! It was so special before VCRs etc. Brings happy tears to my eyes! I remember singing In My Own Little Corner All Year Long. This made me love musicals. BF's niece was Cinderella in her HS production several years ago-brought all those memories back. Have a VHS would love a CD and DVD also. Thank you for posting it.

  • I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!

  • i watched cinderella soooo much that i nearly broke the vhs!

  • That much?! Wow, I don't think I've even watched it that much, and I'm a HUGE fan of this show!

  • Thanks for the memories! I remember sitting with my grandparents and my parents. My father has since passed but I still hear his comments (positive) watching this! Celeste Holme is now a friend!

  • I'm glad you liked it! That's cool that Celeste Holm is a friend of yours! Has she told you any behind-the-scenes stories about this show?

  • beautifully done!

  • Thank you!

  • I am so glad to have found this musical again that my sister and I loved and have now watched again, thanks for keeping this great piece of work alive!!!

  • You're welcome! I'm glad you found it!

  • I have loved this movie since I was 6 years old!! So much, in fact, that I collect Cinderella memorabilia and I even have a picture of Leslie Ann Warren (as an adult) on my bedroom wall. I decided long ago that there is NO Prince Charming out there. But, "Cindy" is on her own and doing FINE! Because of Cindereela, I love Rogers & Hammerstein (& Andrew Lloyd Weber). Thanks so much for the tribute to Cinderella!

  • Glad you liked it! You should post a video of your CINDERELLA collection (all I have is a VHS, DVD, the soundtrack, and a cast photo).

  • Thanks for the memories of childhood. When my sister and I get together we still pull out this video and watch it.

  • You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it!

  • Splendid! You brought back many happy memories.

  • Thanks! I'm glas you like it!

  • I remember when cokes and chips n dip were a treat! and when it would come on we would get ready and sit as a family and watch this wonderful movie. How simple life was!

  • I totally agree it was shown once a year and we all sat by the tv after dinner and just waited for the spectacular to begin and the music was so capitvating and family oriented we were all glued to the floors and sofa chairs and we all grew up watching it year after year until it disappeared and we all beagn to grow and tv began to change with it alsobut we who were of the 60's growing up young fell in love with the music and Lesley Ann Warren , i was totally in love.

  • My favorite of all time! HA! Yes! I DO remember waiting for it to come on each year. But one year my brother and I fought over TV rights and he was allowed to watch stupid "Batman" and I missed the first half of my once-a-year Cinderella! I have never forgiven him for that. I rejoiced when it came out on video and then DVD. It is indeed my favorite childhood memory.

  • Wow, so many memories of this show! I like hearing other people's memories! I first saw this movie when I was about 3 or 4, on video, and I fell in love with it! I think there should be a new Special Edition DVD, with a remastered picture and sound, plus oodles of DVD extras!

  • Definitely! It would be wonderful if they did a new Special Edition. I was 4 in 1965. I once saw a biography of Leslie Ann Warren on the Bio Channel. I particularly enjoyed the part where they told about her getting the part.

  • Does anyone here who's a fan of this wonderful TV show, waiting for it all year, and the 'big' event it was when you could finally watch it? Of course, before DVDs and VCRs and DVRs....what a wonderful childhood memory. My favorite version of this wonderful Rogers and Hammerstein musical! Thanks for posting!

  • Glad you liked it! Thank you for your comment!

  • this is a classic , lesley ann warren was a true find for this part ..she reminds me of linda ronstadt in the 1970's lesley needs more reward for her talent

  • I agree! She was a perfect choice for the part! I once wrote her a fan letter, and she sent me back a really nice reply. I would love it if there were a new CINDERELLA DVD and hear Lesley Ann along with her surviving costars do an audio commentary!

  • Thanks for posting. I have the CD from this musical - I fell in love with it as a kid and I have never forgotten it ---- good old Celeste Holme.

  • You're welcome!

  • This is my favorite version of Rogers and Hammerstein's cinderella.

  • Mine too! I've seen all three versions, but this one is my favorite!

  • Aww, this was fun to watch!! Thank you. I just started rehearsals for the role of Cinderella and I am ecstatic!! This version was the first Cinderella I ever saw as well and it holds a special place in my heart!

  • Thank you for your comment! Good luck (or should I say "break a leg"?) with your show! I really would like to be in a production of this show. The Prince is one of my dream roles!

  • Thank you... to me, Lesley and Stuart are cinderella and Prince Charming and always will be.. thank you so much..

    Jennifer

  • You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it!

  • Thanks for posting this! Although I practically worship Julie Andrews, I think this is the best version of the R & H Cinderella. I remember thinking LAW was so beautiful, then being shocked a few years later when I was finally allowed to see Victor/Victoria. Amazing actress. Very underrated. But one thing always bothered me about this movie. They had Ginger on the dance floor for all of about FIVE SECONDS! WASTE!!!!

But I forgive them because of Stuart Damon. Best Prince Charming ever.

  • Thank you very much for your kind comment!

For anyone who doesn't know it, on my channel is a version of "Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?" performed by Vic Damone. Check it out!

  • Thank you, I guess nothing can out do the first version we see and this was my first so while all the others are good this one is great. Great job.

  • You're welcome!

  • this was the show I grew up on, have all the songs on my,now Ipod, and listen to them all the time. someday, I will have a "lovely night" all to my own. THANK YOU

  • Glad you like it! I have the CD too, and enjoy listening to it!

  • What a wonderful tribute to this classic version! A lot of those pictures I had never seen before. And the music was lovely. (Was that the Overture? It has been years since I heard it.) Great job done!

  • Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it! The music is indeed the Overture. It is very lovely.

Thanks again for your kind words!

  • I love this movie and this is a very nice tribute.

  • Thank you! I'm glad you like it!
