Dont forget seatbelts kill people too. I have a friend and doctors told him he would be dead if he was wearing seatbelt. He was broadsided and flew from drivers seat to passenger side. So, technically he is right. That, and the relatively low speed of vehicles then. Today I can go 110MPH on the freeway without batting an eye, in his day 55MPH in a Ford was about it.

A semi truck will do just fine. When that thing stops dead in it's tracks...truck or not - youre pretty much fucked, and only crumple zones and seatbelts are your only hope. Weight is not "directly proportional to survivability, crumple zones or not" as you stated, It's a factor, but far from being the biggest one.

First, the 9th Amendment really isn't apropos here. It's simply a guide to interpretation rather than a substantive right. You already agree that there's no right being infringed (and it would be almost an impossible argument anyway). You do certainly have the right to try to abolish the government (even if no rights are being infringed) but to abolish a 233 year old country because of a law telling you to wear a seatbelt on government owned roads seems...well, a bit much.

Anyone who chooses not to wear a seatbelt when they get into any vehicle is basically suicidal. In the past 2 and a half years I have been in 2 car crashes. The 1st was crashing at 120mph and ending up in a brick wall, rolling 3 times and ending up on our roof. If it wasn't 4 my seat belt I'd be dead. The 2nd was at 60mph, myself driving, flipping nose to tail 3 times and ending up on drivers side. Again, if it weren't for my seatbelt i'd probably be dead. Just use it, it saves lives

But anyway: When the car stops from 50km/h in , say, 3 metres, your body (if youre not wearing a seatbelt) is still moving at eactly 50 km/h (about 30 mph). That is very fast: 100 metre sprinters run at around 35 kph = 20 mph. When the car gets pushed and it turns to the left, your body still wants to go straight. That's where you hit the person sitting next to you. Serious stuff can happen, even at low speeds.
