FO3 or NV is just a matter of taste, I too liked Fallout 3 better, but New Vegas really does have a whole different feel to it.

Even though it looks very similar to FO3 graphically, it has a lot of weapons, choices and things you can do.

I think the reason some people don't like it is because it looks less apocalyptic than the FO3, but overall, I think it's as good as FO3, there's the bugs too but they never really bugged me and when they did I just fixed them and kept playing.

@carlosewm Fallout New Vegas is exactly what the first two games were like. Fallout 2 was set in a post apocalyptic future where civilization was rapidly growing again. Bethesda ruined that tradition with Fallout 3. If anything Fallout New Vegas is the real Fallout 3, because all Bethesda did was just make an unoriginal game that rehashed the same ideas, plots, and even endings from the first two games ,and then thrown them into a generic elder scrolls game.

@lukethegreat101 the Chinese officer sword is not in it, and so is the combat shotgun, assault rifle, and the Chinese assault rifle. Basically the guns, and apparel that have Chinese in the name. But there are a lot of brand new weapons added though.
