  • So many advancements have been made in bone marrow treatment for SC disease I am meeting more and more people who have been cured. The complications and risks of bone marrow transplant are not what they used to be Derek--especially if you have a 100% sibling match. But, I've also met many folks who have been cured who didn't have a 100% sibling match. I humbly urge you to talk to your doctor about a possible cure.

  • Stay strong, babi boi just believe God will heal you, cause he will! #im keeping you in my prayers stay strong

  • stay strong Derek! I pray God relieves your pain, and thanks for sharing.

  • thanks for being so honest with what you go through every day because of sickle cell. i'm sure a lot of other people (and teens) with sickle cell feel less alone in their daily pain. plus those who are studying to be in the medical field like me are able to better understand the feelings of those with the condition and how we can be there to support and try to soften the pain. i hope things are going well for you!

  • Derrek, I just turned 27 yrs old and I am currently becoming more active with the SIckle Cell Foundation of TN. I am so proud of you for sharing your story with the world they way you are doing. I have felt all of your fears. But, the only fear I have now is dying young bcus I have two small children to raise. I am now subscribed. I love the end statement you made, "Next time you see me, dont look at me strange..." You, sir, are a sickle cell soldier.

  • @luvableme28 are u african american cause it's mostly present in african aemricans or carribeans etc

  • @trini4eve9 yes I am

  • @luvableme28 ME2:) i hate america though

  • This is a great video. You did a good job of explaining the meds and the feelings that a teen goes thru with this disease. I have close family members who also have this disease. It sounds like you are getting great medical care and have good doctors-that makes a big difference too. Keep sharing, because there are too many people who know nothing about Sickle Cell.

  • Great Vid man. Good job on the tremendous amounts of fluid. I have SS and i find that exercise helps with the amount of crisis i have. I'm not saying go all out but try to have fun outdoors. It might help but remember to keep hydrated and don't over do it. Don't be afraid to go places either. I love to travel and I've definitely been sick abroad. Just make sure you're around good and knowledgeable friends. It also helps to be knowledgeable of the disease yourself. Once again great vid

  • hi i have sickle cell sc i dont have many pain i feel normal and i wanted to asked how tall are you and how much you weight caused im 14 and im 5'2 and weight 105

  • @foever321 im 59' && 139 lbs

  • @d3r3k22 I have Sickle Cell Anemia SS and I'm 24 and 5'7 weighing 110.

  • Respond to this video... You did awesome bruh! I take the same medications and doses except the Percocet and Tylenol 3! Bruh my doctor took me off the things with Acetaminophen (Tylenol) in it cuz of the liver I take regular Oxycodone 5mg when needed. Add me as a friend. So we can keep in contact bruh!

  • @foever321 bro im a muslim & my oldest son is 4& he hav di sickle cell, 1st put ur trust in ALLAH[THE GOD of all mankind-the 1 that created u] HE knows all the pain u feel& HE have the solution for all ur pain, so Prophet muhammad[p.b.u.h.] the last messenger of ALLAH[ALMIGHTY GOD], was inform by ALLAH to tell us dat wen we feel pain in our body, we mus put our right hand on the pain & say bismillaah 3times & then say i seek refuge in ALLAH from this pain 7times, & 4sure di pain will go instant

  • @foever321 i mus warn u aswel, plz beware of all these medication they relief is short-term & they can hav dangerous aftermath and side effect that do u more harm than good in the long run, and that bone marrow transplant, is very risky, may ALLAH forbid it to go wrong if u attemp to get it done, but if it go wrong, it could destroy u mentally, and doctors know this thats why they hardly practise that operation, and yes water is good but not too much cos weaken the strenght of ur red blood cells

  • @foever321 yes as i was sayin 2much water weaken ur red blood cells and dats where the sickle cell problem lives in di 1st place, so wen u av water balance it with fruits, and the best fruits for u is dates, so dates and water is very gd 4sickle cell ppl& plz eat 100% natural and organic, no preservitive or additives or fizzy drink, but 100% red grape juice and 100% pure beetroot juice is very gd to sustain, boost & quickly produce more&more red blood cells which u need & honey aswel is very gd

  • @foever321 bro all those remedies that i've give to u is from ALLAH- THE CREATOR and was given to HIS final messenger[prophet muhammad] as benefits to mankind, and also last but not least- the natural remedy call the black seed, but u can buy it in the form of a oil, it is 100% natural, go to any muslim grocery store and ask them for the black seed oil and u could just take 1tea spn of that oil everyday at noon,& still av the other stuff dat i mention earlier, they all gt no bad side effect

  • @fukutubesuxx i love ignorace coz only crackers get it! a disease we need to kill.

  • Hey what happen to Exjade did they not subscribe that to you for iron control.

  • @fukutubesuxx very prevalent among dark skinned people and almost completely absent in "white" populations. that get it. So just to let you know it is not a black disease white people are known to have it also. It is a DNA thing not a color thing you dumb ass. So your kids may and can come out with this if you have the trait. But I would not wish this on you or your kids. But people like you are just a small fraction of the world.

  • for anyone out there who thinks that only african americans can get the disease, i just wanna let you kno that im Dominican and i have it. So it occurs for ALL races. Thx for posting this vid :D

    God Bless

  • @sw1795 A large percentage of the Dominican Republic is mixed and its usually with black in it. Sickle Cell Anemia can happen to anyone, but its BY FAR prevalent within people of full or partial African descent. You more than likely got it from your African lineage, unless you are a White Dominican or from the small percentage of East Asian or Arab Dominicans. (Yes I am very aware about the Dominican Republic)

  • great vid..you have an macbook like me :)

  • wow ..man i respect you alot for making this video...i am 13 yrz old and i also have sickle cell. I take folic acid, penacilin, hydrocodene(pain) and hydroxerea...but its just good that you showed ppl how important sickle cell really is ....keep holding on..

  • great vid i have sickle cell to i take all the meds u take and u r very brave.

  • nice video man I have SCD too and take all of the meds that you mentioned...Keep on fighting man

  • continue from below... When i question them about what exactly we will be doing when going out or if i say i cant go because i know it will be too much for me. Most of the time when im sick i try to avoid taking pill too. Unless extremely neccessary. I use to take certain pills when i was younger and i have to say i agree with ya. THey are like candy to me cuz if i were to take them now while being sick it doesnt help at all. i hope things get easier for ya. one love

  • hey, i respect you so much for doing this. My name is Cheresse im 25 and have Sickle Cell. I feel like everyting you said in this video is right on point with what i go through too and im sure so many others. I think you mentioned things that books and articlesonline really cant describe. I always feel the same way when going out with friends. I still feel til this day that some dont get it.

  • I know this was hard for you, but I think you are absolutely amazing! I have sickle cell also and yes living with it is very difficult, but it is possible. I've had to alter my life drastically, from the food I eat to the company I keep. But I am HAPPY, I have focus on other more positive aspects of me, though I'm not going to pretend its easy.

Sometimes the frustration of feeling limited is almost equal to that brought on by the pain itself. I get it.

Keep you're head up, Mr. Amazing! ;)

  • I have sickle cell to anemia and I really can relate with you it get tough sometimes and the pain crisis is really painful. I don't get sick everyday day like I used to I rarely get sick now, if I feel a little pain I just rest to put heat on the part of body it hurts and maybe take a nap. After that normally I'm feeling better and for the pain meds I sop taking them unless I need them they are easy to become hook. I found myself taking them even when I was feeling better. I hope you don't. :)

  • i comend you for this. i have sickle cell anemia too. & its SOOOO hard to come out & tell people about it. it took me 13 years to tell my friends. & to put this on youtube is very brave. & i know its really hard, so im really proud of you for this. we both take the same meds too hahaha. so if you ever need to talk about it im here :)

  • aw tat suks man but fight thru the pain play ur PS3!!!!!!!!!!!
