When my first wife and I split I lived in a 3/4 ton truck (no cap) for 6 months. I managed to trade it for an old Monza stationwagon and ironically that was an upgrade! I had no job, no income and no hope. I also had just stopped drinking. Afetr a years and a half I finally got an insurance settlement (we were divorced, she got none of it). I bought a barely livable mobile home in a park and got my life back together.
@outlawracer2229 awesome to hear. This is DAVID... I have not been able to log back in to my dchaverty account since google changed the whole system. Still trying to figure it out. Good to hear you made it through. I'm doing great now!
@gnosismonk didn't need it. It wasn't "air tight" and in LA it is always cool and nice outside. Never gets too hot.. well maybe for like a week but it is bearable. Those nights I might of opened a window.. maybe.
How do you manage having a car AND a van? When you need to move your van (or vice versa), now you've gotta catch a bus to get back to your car/van to move that as well?
@yamsack1 I would just move it to the other side of the street. I never moved it very far. If I had to cross town which was once.. I had my gf take me back to my car.
@creativereinvestor yep a UPS po box.. it looked just like a real address. It did not have the PO in the address but an actual street address. Which was good when my car was about to be repossessed and they thought my address was at UPS.. I dodged them for a year and finally settled and I own my car fully now :)
Free wifi/outlets= Starbucks, public library etc...
Sex= Forget it...You'll get no pussy unless you have a lot of money and a house.
Food= Go to the beach or camping area, pretend to be a tourist and have a barbecue outside. Eat non-perishable foods.
Entertainment= If you have the money you can still go clubbing, movie etc... The only thing that changes is that you live in your car. It's hard, but it's doable.
@cleberinthearea actually this is David of /dchaverty. I've not been able to access /dchaverty for months. I actually did get a girlfriend who moved in with me from Dec-Feb. Google her. Her name is Angela Peel (1st season of American Idol) She is awesome. Didn't judge. She loved the adventure. We are still friends and she is still in LA pursuing her dreams. I got WiFi from my van right outside a home that did not have a password on the network. I did get a UPS Mail box and I did go out a ton.
MAIN LESSON: If you have the power, and the law on your side, never allow a woman living in your home to drive you from your home, thinking it will help to save the relationship. When a woman is willing to allow a man to move out, like in this situation - THE RELATIONSHIP IS ALREADY OVER. All men need to listen to the wise words of Tom Leykis. Tom will save you from a load of emotional pain. You can listen to him on YouTUbe. His words are not for the bleeding heart liberals.
I lived in a car for a couple years. It was a hatchback coupe, but the seats had beet ripped out by the previous owner, so inside it was all white steel aside from the driver's seat and dashboard. Managed to fit a futon mattress in it, and lived fairly well. Showering became my biggest issue, easy to use the campground shower nearby in the summer, the winter I had to beg friends to use theirs. It was a humbling experience, but if you have a shower (like an RV or camper trailer) then it isn't bad
@whisperingwind2 i lived like that in a hatchback for 8 months in florida. i stayed in the same town all the time and parked on the beach at night, joined a gym for 30 a month and showered there. i gave it up because the cops were always hasseling me and making me move my car 2-3 times a night
was up man dont put your self down what ur doing is oswsome im ganna be living in a van two. im 21 good with the ladies but i have magger problems at home with my hipockit two face parents,
Why don't you sell your van & get yourself a furnish apartment? You still will have your car for transportation to your job & life will be a bit easier.
Hey, what you're doing in many ways is preferable to my life. $60K underwater mortgage, $420 / month car payments, bitchy girlfriend, credit card debt in the 5 figures, unstable job situation... I would give my left testicle to be out where you're at buddy. And you know what? I did all this to get with a girl way too hot for me.
I know your situation sucks at this point in time, but hang in there. Remind yourself, this is only temporary and for everyday you survive, you are getting a little stronger.
ive just turned 17 2 months ago and today a bought a honda z50j it has lights and stuff is complete with complience plate my plans are to register it get bike Ls and buy a cheep hiace van in ok condition ive worked out i can live under 15k a year ill rip all seats out modify old desks and book cases im pretty goodwith this stuff my job i just started i can earn 60k a year so ill put 40k a year away and live off 20k a year easy park next to beach and use beach to bath then use z50 as transport..
I lived in my 77 Bedford CF campervan last year for 6 months, then moved into a mobile home on a farm for the winter. Stayed longer than I planned but getting the urge to move back into my camper. My outgoings were so low I was raking it in, my bank balance never looked so healthy!
dude move to st.charles missouri you can get a moble home for about 3000.00 used in a nice park my friend got one for 1800.00 in o'fallon mo it needs work but he moved right in my first place was a moble home a1974 14 foot by 65 feet i got it in 2003 two bed room one bath it needed no work well paint on the out side me and a room mate got it for 3000.00 and the lady that sold it to us let us make payment to her of 200.00 a month you just have to look
Fantastic... good for you... I wish we had heath care here because you at least can go to the doctor for free and get check ups... living on the streets can be very bad for your health.
hey man,are you living in your van by choice or was it out of your hands?im building a camper out of and old mitsubishi van but im here in little old new zealand,i can only imagine what it must be like doing it in the u.s
I have a really loyal staffy x dog for protection, thumbs up for doing alone!
A little of both. I was married & I moved out to give my wife space because she just wanted to end it. I was willing to work on our marriage so I moved into a van to avoid having to live on someone's couch during this emotional time in my life & I didn't want to get a lease somewhere when I was hoping to move back in wife my wife one day. I found out that my wife started dating my friend only 1 month after she ended us... so I stayed in the van and never made enough money to get an apartment..
@dchaverty Hey that is really terrible man, I can sympathize with you though, I had a girl and I thought we were gonna get married but.....guess not, any way I plan on doing the same thing you are once my lease expires or I deem I need to bail which ever comes first...nothing to really hold on to any more I suppose. Well thanks foe the video.
@MegaLinuxer check out my channel dvdvanity where I started a whole new channel just for living out of my car. The van lasted me 5 months and I still own it.
