I don't know why everyone likes automatic so much :? They make all the new cars with automatic gearboxes. Well I don't know, I think the pleasure of driving comes from stepping the cluch and changing gears manualy :) The feeling is different :)))
Wonder why often suggest the lowest diesel in a range. They have nice ones but closer to the top range, and moreover you get more performance if you stick with one of them. Even not talking about the gasoline ones
In what RWD car can you actually fit your feet comfortably atop the transmission tunnel if you're sitting in the middle? (I'm actually curious about this one, I don't know.)
@b5thomas7 ohh noooo my friend he is right..when i had my E90 330I M sport serviced,i had a manual e90 service car it was not as good as the steptronic.
@curtib123 I dont know what he is on about. I have one of these and I am 6'3", with the front seat in my driving position I can sit in the back with 2 inches in front of my knees and my head is just skimming the roof if I sit unnaturally upright which like you say no one would do.
@elukok lmfao i was just happy i didnt have to pay extra- the funniest thing was the look the guy gave me when i asked about getting it in manual lmfao
@elukok bmw is smart tho they looked at their entry level vehicle and they targeted their target demographic- low middle class acountants who can't drive but want a brand name so people assume he makes more than he really does (you want a real bmw, you get AT LEAST a m5, or 7 series)
In America, there are two types of car enthusiasts: manual fascists and people who recognize that different cars do different things and therefore require different transmissions. I have a 1997 BMW 328i with a manual, because it's a fairly stripped out and simplified performance sedan and that's what it should have. On the other hand, I never, ever want to drive a manual minivan, and frankly the idea of a Bugatti with a manual is terrifying.
I dont like BMW's. They all look the same. and the media system is so frustrating !! I had a 5 series, I kept on getting distracted by the media system. I sold it and bought a volvo s60. maybe not as fun to drive but so much better
For most of us stupid Americans, "manual" is synonymous with "sports car" in a BMW or similar car. Can’t speak for all Americans - as if we were a homogeneous group - but have observed that on the West Coast we buy a ”stick shift” if we occasionally want to blow off some steam, find a twisting road, and turn it loose. If we might be stuck in traffic a lot, we might opt for the automatic (with the paddle shifter). Depending on the need, I'll drive my sports car, pick up or my Bentley.
I got a e46. 3 serie 2.0. From 99. It still roling like new. So easy to drive. It's like the car ask himself a question. Why are your hands on my stear. Let me do the drive you fuckin idiot. Just give me gas. And clean me. And i do the rest. Who the fuck is that girl sitting in me. Ill will make sure if we crash that my right airbag will not work. Can you shut her the fuck up..... Yeah. I like my car.
the 2005-present BMW 3 Series is assembled in Leipzig, Germany Munich, Germany Toluca, Mexico Jakarta, Indonesia (since 2011) Regensburg, Germany Pretoria, South Africa 6th of October City, Egypt Kaliningrad, Russia Shenyang, China Chennai, India Selangor, Malaysia
I don't care how much fun the BMW is to drive. BMW is one of the most unreliable brands nowadays. BMW owners are not only likely, but guaranteed to experience electrical failures. BMW: "Buy More Warranty."
@10jmsoccer We most certainly did check the carfax: One owner, no accidents and no issues. We even called the fellow who previously owned the X5 to ask if he had experienced any problems (which he hadn't). After buying the car, it suddenly turned into a lemon. Last week, we spent $1500 on repairs b/c the fan belt snapped, which disconnected the timing belt, broke the alternator and causing a cylinder misfire. Unless BMW consistently ranks high in Consumer Reports, we'll never buy a BMW again.
A4!!!! There's hardly enough space to fit a chicken in the rear seats. I need to get my shoes off and cover myself in lard to squeeze inside the A4 rear-seats.
Gee, I wonder why bmw sells more 3 series manuals than automatics. I never heard of any car reviewer complain about the 3 series manual gearbox and persuader buyers to buy the automatic.
@TheSRalston I agree with u, I've always had a sense of laziness using electric seats in a car. Going from manual seats to electric seats, I found that it took forever to find the right position and memory took forever.
@NottinghamForest22 I agree, they conquered many countries all around the world, killing millions and millions of innocent people, just to add to their riches! Oh wait, that was the British Empire.

''Maybe consider knowing how to spell the easiest works'' did you confuse ''works'' with ''words''? I think you're the one who has to learn english.. and grammEr? REALLY? The correct word is ''grammar''
I was with this guy until he suggested you get the automatic. WTF. The best part of BMW is the feel of the german engineered gearbox that tunes you into the road.
Blast! AutoBox = FAIL! Manual for the true drivers! If you own an Autobox BMW you better be in a wheelchair with steering wheel mounted throttle and brake!
@UAL2842 I love how almost none of the americans until a couple of years ago didnt know how to drive manual cars and were basicaly all in automatics spit on automatics now and say that manual is the only good thing. Maybe in america owning a car with manual gearbox means you're a good driver, but in the rest of the world where you cant get a driving licence without knowing how to drive a car with manual gearbox, it doesnt mean crap. Some people like automatics and buy them because of that.
@derbigpr500 - It's not really about who can drive and who can't. I'm from the US and have had both sticks and automatics. America isn't like Europe. If you're in your car 2-4 hours a day rather than for weekend excursions you simply prefer automatics, especially in congested stop and go traffic. It's why german engineers didn't understand why we want cupholders in our cars. Different mentality. For most people here a car is simply a daily tool, not a toy.
@dayingyang0 Are you suggesting that Europeans use cars on weekends only? I think europeans use cars more than americans (a lot of people use public transport in US), and european cities are more congested, unlike american cities which usually have highways going trough them, wide open roads. But it doesnt matter, my first post was about people who post comments like "automatic is for pussies, manual is the way to go", and until half a year ago, they didnt know what the clutch was used for.
@derbigpr500 - no I'm suggesting that public transportation is more prevalent in Europe but it's virtually nonexistent in the US.You don't seem to actually be familiar with the US. American cities do have highways but they're never wide open. You have to be in the middle of the country to get wide open roads. Also, people in the US travel more Km per year in a car on average than any other country I'm aware of (US 17,862; France 14,535; Germany 12,700)
@Mastoratzas Not really, the new automatics consume less on a straight road like for example a motorway,HOWEVER driving an automatic it's as boring as watching paint dry on a wall. It's just painfully boring and linear, and I would never ever buy such car until I succesfully consider myself handicapped
@derbigpr500, ummmm. Manuals have gotten less popular over the decades in the US. People used to mostly drive Manuals decades ago, but that changed over time as people could afford Automatics and gasoline has been cheaper in the US than in Europe.
@derbigpr500 Honestly, in general people who can drive standard are better drivers here, but that's because to even find a luxury car with a manual gearbox here you have to REALLY want one. I looked for a good month for one to no avail. In fact, even though the automatic transmission is optional on the 3 series, when you're looking at them used the manuals are generally more expensive.
@60gigps3 I like how my "generalizing" is actually backed up by facts, because on average, over 85% of cars sold in USA since pretty much 1980's have had automatic transmissions, and in some years, like 2003, that percentage is almost 94%.
@60gigps3 And even though european manufacturers produce automatic transmissions which are state of the art (like 8 speed dual clutch gearboxes put in small cars), which reduce fuel consumption and improve performance, people still choose to buy manual cars in europe, in pretty much all cars apart from big luxury saloons. In america, automatic transmissions put into cars are really old fashioned, slow, reduce performance, increase fuel consumption, yet, 90% of cars are sold with them.
once i heard a guy from USA that we Europeans are the worst drivers because we are all used to automatic gearboxes, and that American drivers are prooven the best.
I just looked and was like, WTF!?!? ahahha, didn't have the heart to answer
@ScuderiaBull American drivers (not all, but alot!) are complete idiots. I live in America, they have no clue what the hell they are talking about... "consumerism over brains"
@derbigpr500 I know that your comment is old but, I am American I took my road test back in 93 in a manual. And have been driving mostly manual cars and trucks since. I have always hated automatics because I feel they steal power. And I hate the fact that something always goes wrong with them. And I take pleasure in shifting the gears when I want to. If I have kids they will learn how to drive a manual before they can get their license.
@derbigpr500 Well I brought an automatic car because the jams in my area is terrible , I felt so tired and stressed out driving my old manual car during the jams
@Kaykj Well, it depends what you want for a car. 3 series driver a bit better than A4, has maybe a little bit better materials in interior than A4. A4 is bigger, looks better, has a more stylish interior (since its newer), and fit and finish is maybe a bit better. It has a more quality feel than 3 series. If i were to choose between the 2, i'd choose the A4.
See, 3 series is a coupe so limo has small boot than A4 because a4 is limo.
About boot, A4 is FWD which takes less space than RWD, specially DRIVER oriented RWD, merc E class has more room in the back than 5 series because 5 series is better driving car, suspension gives great handling but down size is back room
@stewardlie Why the hell would you want powered seats anyway....you set them up once and you leave them as they are forever. Its not like youre gonna grow or shrink. For me, electric seats are the most useless piece of equipement you can pay for. I'd rather get better audio system or xenon lights for that money.
@derbigpr500 LOL this is one of the best justifications I have read. Electric seats are the ultimate in laziness, what´s the problem with moving a mechanical lever? Fortunately the BMW´s I´ve had always had manual seats...hell, even in a newer car the only electrical things I would like are maybe the front windows and the mirrors...apart from that I don´t really need electrical crap...makes me think of my 89 316i...no abs, no ASC, nothing electrical, even the sunroof was mechanical...good times
my aunt has one of these, the seats kill my back every time we go for a drive, I'm 5:12

I don't care how much fun the BMW is to drive. BMW is one of the most unreliable brands nowadays. BMW owners are not only likely, but guaranteed to experience electrical failures. For that reason, all BMW's are offered with unlimited warranties: a good gesture, but it doesn't make up for the fact that the alternator stops working, the windows jam, the AC fails, or the ECU malfunctions (all issues my family has had with our X5). I have always hated automatics because I feel they steal power. And I hate the fact that something always goes wrong with them. And I take pleasure in shifting the gears when I want to. If I have kids they will learn how to drive a manual before they can get their license.
So your comment is bias.

@wantblackwolf now, with DSG, power is no longer stolen but given ;-)

@derbigpr500 Well I brought an automatic car because the jams in my area is terrible , I felt so tired and stressed out driving my old manual car during the jams

who need BMW when there's AUDI

@badarny According to this reviewer the BMW 3 series is better than the Audi :D
Kaykj 1 year ago
@Kaykj Well, it depends what you want for a car. 3 series driver a bit better than A4, has maybe a little bit better materials in interior than A4. A4 is bigger, looks better, has a more stylish interior (since its newer), and fit and finish is maybe a bit better. It has a more quality feel than 3 series. If i were to choose between the 2, i'd choose the A4.

@Kaykj It really is ... The BMW is better than the Mercedes-Benz AND the Audi .. They have cheaper insurance and the value is extremely high ...

PLATFORM!!!

Where is this? Europe? They use manual seating? not powered? BMW? hmmm.....
stewardlie 1 year ago

@stewardlie Lol 3 series and 1 series also have manual seats in the USA unless you get the premium package or the automatic seat options
