Whether we talk about Frost, Hellhammer, Fenriz, Barker, Kvitrafn, Ulrich, Jordison, Laureno, Kollias, Adler or Roddy... one thing is for sure: They all have their own identity when playing the drums. Their own unique and passionate way of playing the drumkit.

You can love or hate any of them, but you can never take that away from ANY of them.

I dare bet all my money that if Joey Jordison was a drummer in a black/death metal band, people wouldn`t dislike him as much as they do now.

Frost was the first true black metal drummer I heard so I always have a love for what he did on Nemesis Divina ( which was among the first BM albums I listened to which werent 1man band projects like Burzum and Graveland), However, when giving out respect, I have to hand it to Jan Axel von Blomberg (HellHammer) for being the best drummer in the madness that they all got up to in the early days of the 90's which constitutes the true Black Metal. No V's or K's or Zeroes, but True Cult Black Metal

If satyricon is to mainstream for you but you still enjoy Frost's drumming there is allways 1349 to listen to :).

Black metal reminds me a lot of punk. It has very fast repetitive riffs and very fast repetitive drums. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy some black metal and it still takes a lot of talent to pull off these songs. But it almost seems like punk in a way as in "being against the norm." Punk was against government and black metal is against religion. Am I far off?

actually black metal has punk style influences if you look it up, for example listen to "divided we stand" and the drum beat is all punk, and yes i find punk and black metal very similar, one against government and one against religion

Frost's best days are behind now. While I prefer the early Satyricon era, I believe Frost's shining hour was in the Rebel extravanganza LP. Some crazy fast drumming and weird timing structures in there.

Listen to Hellfire by 1349. Not only can he keep up with the likes of Kollias, Roddy, and Inferno, but he arguably has more stamina to keep it up for extended periods of time. Listen to Celestial Deconstruction, it's simply staggering.

you are ill-informed...Frost has more speed, stamina, and technique by far! Inferno!?! he is a great drummer, but he gets more hype than he delivers. Trust me, i have spent about 15 years teching for drummers as well as going backstage to many many shows. Kollias, Barker, and many others are better drummers. Oh yeah....FROST IS FAST!
