I dont understand how an European country that has english bases could be occupied by Turkey. In any part of the history is written not drawn the backdoors lock..... Land or not... there is a "Someone" who wanted to achieve "Something..." In some page there most be the answer for those questions... Which Cypriots most find....
Turkey based its military invasion as 'peaceful action' relying on article IV of the Treaty of Guarantee which says that in the event of a breach of the provisions (the attempt 2 alter the consitution by imputing more laws by the way of bills in the Constitution was though 2 be as such as the Constitution does not allow it) any of the guaranteing powers is entitled to take action to restore the previous to restore what was before existent.. And the present situation is the outcome..
The Cyprus Constitution was given to Cyprus in 1960s.The Constitution was made by the Zyrich &London Agreements, which comprised of 3 treaties that established the political structure of Cyprus.Treaty of Guarantee being most important- Tky, GR & GB guaranteed independence, territorial integrity &Security.Up to 1861 NO income tax law passed -neighter bill secured a separate majority vote (Turk said no for many reasons)
Of course our country has done bad things in their past history;but I,like many people, now live in the 21st century and two wrongs still don't make right. And,at the age of 70,I do not need a history lesson from you.The fact that remains,no matter what you say,at the time I lived in Famagusta,Turks were second class citizens, and had no say in the running of the country and wre "herded" in to ghettos like the one in Famagusta, commonly known as "Turkey town"
@9641roger all due respect, you are 70 years of age and wrongfully educated or just picking sides. If thats how you think correct facts are drawn, then I can find 500 people claiming the opposite of what you say.Just beacuse 2 wrongs dont make a right, does not mean I should stand here listening to a man who's country created all these problems to begin with, accusing me of treating people as lesser human beings.By the way, if turks were 2nd class citizens, what u call the kurds in turkey today?
What they don't say, conveniently,in this film is that, when I lived there from 1968 -1971,whilst serving in the RAF,the Turks where less than second class citizens;they had no say in the running of the country and lived in what was known as "Turkey town" known as Varosha.
@jettenjetta Because Turks won't leave it, they are occupying it. And you can't mix Greeks with Turks because they will kill eachother. Cyprus is basically two different countries now, Turk occupied North, which is a shit hole now, and the Greek side which is part of the European Union and well off. Now I understand why my uncle said he wouldn't even care if a bunch of Turks got killed, he lived through it, leaving his house as a young boy there and fleeing for his life when Turks invaded.
@rvggarcon wow that's amazing. such a beautiful town at one time is just rotting. Imagine so many peoples things are just sitting as they left them many years ago
@jettenjetta Yeah, it was a flourishing town with a lot of tourism at the time. My uncle's family had a huge house that they had to leave there to rot. And sitting as they left them many years ago? No. Turks already vandalized them and stolen anything valuable. And the Turks still haven't given up, they are still occupying it even though they invaded it and turned it into a shit hole.
my husband and I spent our honeymoon in Protaras this July August, such a criminal shame. I lived here in Dhekelia in 1970-173 when Famagustas was 'alive'. We prayer it gets it's life back. Paula & Graham Spencer Tewkesbury Glos 2011

@9641roger then dear sir, even though you qualified to be a RAF pilot, you fail at the common sense test. You are what your country was is and always will be. Manipulator, liar and taking advantage of weaker people. My only answer to your false comments is this: STUDY THE TRUTH.
P.S. the "poor mistreated" turks burned and destroyed every church and cemetery in the occupied area, whereas we, the "un-civilised oppressors", still preserve their mosques and monuments.
@kokos86boom I am not dear or sir- i was a storeman not a pilot. My country is not a manipulator or a liar. The truth? If all Churches/cemetaries were burned,I would not condone that. Can you put your hand on your heart and say the Turks had a say in government and had equal rights? I doubt it

@anne50v why should they be given something that doesn't belong to them? the cyprus issue is not the same as the middle east. the island of Cyprus is one country, one republic - why should we override the law because the belligerents are holding up? In additiion to previous UN resolutions calling for a return of Famagusta to its lawful inhabitants, the European Parliament has in its February 2010 debate on Turkey repeated its own previous calls for the return of Ammohostos - making this an important factor in Turkey's possible EU accession process. Turkey has refrained from demonstrating its good faith towards the current reconciliation efforts on the island by responding to the EuroParliament suggestion - showing its continuing contempt.
very interesting.. it looks like this two films joined together. The first 40 seconds sounds like a piece for the BBC News perhaps and seems to be cut short... do you have any more of this because the pictures look very interesting...
Actually 35,000 people live in famagusta today, just not Varosha...
