Stephentsang, Mainland China brought dignity back to Hong Kong where human beings were being used as beasts of burden to pull people around in the streets.
It's bullshit that these people are still locked up. What kind of threat to society do they pose? What a waste of money. No wonder Japan's debt is even worse than the US debt.
Like Japan, many ex-prisoners wants to be rearrested here in Hong Kong only to get warm shelter, decent meals and orderly living. Society out here is a ferocious jungle full of unemployment & disrespect, especially after 1997 where massive amount of uneducated barbaric Chinese mainlanders kept flocking to Hong Kong. To many ex-prisoners, jail means paradise.
Most likely, model prisoners are sent here. In many countries outside Europe, the objective of law system is to separate criminals from society and let them enter a downward spiral ,finally becoming death row inmates. Thus re-integration into society after serving sentence is unthought of. Juvenile thieves become young robbers them become murderers and get the death sentence. This is how it works outside Europe.
ya if u lived in japan like me and got arrested and had to do time, no english tv, and jails here don't provide heat in the winter or air conditioning in the summer time. People get frost bite during the winter. 3 healthy meals my ass, prisoners lose a ton of weight here. some prisoners are kept in solitary confinement all day and have to sit cross-legged on their arses all day, it's pure hell here, added to that a corrupt system
I love Japan but they are backwards when it comes to their legal system. Japan has a 99.7% conviction rate, they can hold you without charges for 30 days. When a cop starts talking to you you get terrified
23 days - I stand corrected. I had to wait 36 hours in some backwards Texas jail so a judge could tell me,"You shouldn't have been arrested" and then released me. That liked to killed me Still I'm operating from memories of how America used to be. Here's an interesting read. Search Google for "Three Days in NYC Jails"
There is no actual God which has truth value based on observation. Emile Durkheim proved with Australian aboriginals that religion creates sacred totems based on social ideals. The community worships its own culture which it has materialized in totems, and that all social ideals are chosen by the elite. Religion means worshiping what is thought important by the elite. You may believe things that give you peace of mind, but it is better to believe the things which explains things.
Durkheim might have proven that true for aboriginal australian. Pure monotheism is another story. Analize what Islam demands of people and see whether its in an Elite's interest. Islam comands consultaiton in government, a legal tax on the rich as the right to the poor, Pure monotheism frees the mind of superstition. Check it out for yourself.. IT EXPLAINS THINGS... try it out and see.. challenge ya!
Pure monotheism is superstition, my friend. Superstition is a belief or notion, not based on reason or knowledge. Same thing. Yes, Islam is in the elite's interest (the Ulema). Just take a look at Iran, Egypt and Saudi Arabia where the Mullahs lead lavish lives. How do you think some of these crooks get people to die for their agenda? Through Islam's promise of 72 virgins and villas wherein rivers of honey flows. It's just another cynical system designed to keep people in line and ignorant.
It's startling and sad to find out that many of Japan's elderly inmates are actually homeless people who commit petty crimes, then turn themselves over to the police and ask to be arrested, because they consider prison a safe haven. Japan should put up hospices to care for these homeless people, so that they they wouldn't have to resort to committing a petty crime just to be able to get a roof over their heads and three square meals a day.
If you mean a bias news channel for propaganda purposes, America is isolated. It used to be closed to the World before WW2. The bourgeois elite produces news for the Americans only and they don't have news from the outside world. After WW2 the American elite has used this in it's advantage to draw American public into wars against other nations, of which Americans know only what the elite tells them in the biased media
i dont know why people like false news channels that show false stories in biased form and as soon as a channel shows some truth of the world everyones jumping on them, seems the propaganda machine did a very good job with brainwashing most people
Al-Jazeera was originally a project of the BBC, their entire editorial staff comes from BBC. The veteran journalist Sir Robert Frost left the BBC for Al-Jazeera due to Al-Jazeera's high journalistic standards.
yeah but its the journalists that dont agree with the presenting of the news mainstream and they can say things they couldn't say on the BBC , therefore it is not the BBC as such, whatever it is, al-jazeera is a breath of fresh air and a great alternative to sky news
AlJazeeraEnglish is like the free zone for anglosaxon imperialism of the World. It has an arabic name but there English news professionals can boast their values without restrictions, more than in any other domestic or traditional institutions like the BBC. It is the limitless outlet of the capitalist class of Anglosaxon societies. They use the arabic context as an excuse for their absolute righteousness because they have actually defeated and annexed the arabic news channel for theirownideology
No, you should not accept this source. And it is not your fault if you think that it is a good source. You are a product of socialization and think what you are used to think.
teem: Can you provide some specific examples? The reason I ask is that the "flavor" of AJ-E seems to me to be quite "common man" oriented, or even "pro underdog." As a general theme, AJ-E seems quite willing to point out the failures (or apparent failures) of the U.S. economic system, lots of stories about poverty, more oriented toward showing the costs of economic aggression/imperialism, etc.
I will give you examples as they appear. Do not think less of me. For now I retain my analysis. It is not pro-underdog, it tells a one sided story of the World with less restrictions than the BBC. It is pro-American, given that the anglosaxon influence originates from the UK as well as their cousins in language. It is the pompous mentality which they have in common, the habit of presenting their values in a competitive and to seek to replace other "lesser" ones in abroad. It is not arabic.
teem: It may be biased, but you've got to ultimately give some type of example to demonstrate that. The whole idea of the channel, I think, is to reach out to the English-speaking world, and it seems to me, to show the Arab and/or Muslim view, or at least to have that view shown along with other views. In some ways, AJ-E has been instrumental in showing that the points of views of Arab and Israel need to be looked at in balanced ways (as opposed to the usual pro-Israeli view).
I don't have to give you anything. People can take my opinions as they are without embarking on your scrutinizing trial and they can reflect them regardless of your pressure.
teemuru: Your opinions are of course in question unless you can substantiate them. I don't even mean a highly specific example, I merely mean that if you're going to say AJ-E presents a one-sided "anglosaxon" view (by this I assume you mean "Western" cultural worldview), you need some sort of further explanation to justify your viewpoint. I'm actually not scrutinizing you as much as I'm trying to figure out where the hell you're coming from.
teem: And again, if you have some basis on which to accuse me of anything except a wish to understand you, then bring it on. It's not competitive, I just don't understand your view, and am asking for clarification.
Reports that humanize the Iraqi insurgecy, cast Israel as a blood thirsty agressor, gives short shirf to the flaws of Mugabe and Chavaz. Oh yeah plenty of anglo-saxon imperialist idealogy there.
abarz: lol, yeah, I can't figure out if he is (maybe) saying that these are the "righteous" slants thrown out there to satisfy the imperialists' need for a countervailing moral view, while the general pop unknowingly permits the continuing aggression?? he's so busy writing for the ages, he can't find time to make a concrete argument. so I can only guess.
